You know, I never heard of animal abortions til I came here, lol. The more I think about it, the more I think it's a good idea. I think we scared the person away though :(
We got our cat an abortion once, she came into heat young and got pregnant, so naturally we got her desexed at the same time. I don't think she should be scared away, I think she should face the facts, puppys aren't easy and no body should think that, not even for a second. If she let her dog get pregnant then she is responsible for making sure these pups get nothing but the best and go to good homes that wont fight or abuse them. If she hasn't replied its probably because she simply doesn't care, if she really cares she will stick around, listen to what we have to say and take our advise. Its as simple as that. If she doesn't like what we are saying she should just get over it and learn from her mistakes, every one makes mistakes, unfortunatly this one doesn't only effect her, but her dogs as well and possibly even, if things go wrong, the future and destiny of the breed. She has made her mistake, the best thing she can do now is make sure all the pups find great homes and desex her dogs as soon as possible.
to some of the dogo posters in this thread: it appalls me that you are being so supportive of this person. if you are going to take a stand against byb's and preach the plight of the shelter dog, then back up your stance.
I don't think they are being "supportive" so much as knowing that there isn't much they can do now that the poor dog is already pregnant. I'm with you though Roxy, why have a male and female dog if you aren't going to desex them? Why even get a dog if you can't afford to desex it? How irrisponsible? Why add to the number of dogs killed each day in shelters just because of your own stupidity? How ON EARTH do you intend to afford to vaccinate, microchip, worm and feed these pups? What will happen if you can't find homes for them all? I can see it now, a litter of pups waiting at the pound to die because someone was too irrisponsible to desex their dogs. Thats great, thats all the world needs, another litter of pups dying a horrible death, or worse still going to irrisponsible owners who will only bring down the image of this breed even further, preventing all us responsible owners from ever being allowed to own this lovely breed again. Sorry, had to rant, I'm sick of people like this who are too irrisponsible to even own a dog, let alone breed from it. I don't intent to sound mean, but some one has to stick up for the poor doggies :-? And on the topic of cropping (now that I'm in my little rant already), I think its sick to mutilate the poor puppies like that, not only sick but completely unnessissary (unless you plan to show in certain countrys, but there should be laws against that every where).

Lily has got her photo on Dr Tom Lonsdales web page, I sent him a photo of her along with some information on what his diet has done for my dogs. I've also asked him if he'll do a lecture on dog nutrition at my university when he gets back to australia, we are discussing that. To see Lilys photo and story telling of my healthy dogs, go to http://www.rawmeatybones.com/ and click on "Readers Photos". :D  :D

Oh I hate it when people abuse you for having your dogs off lead at an off lead dog park!!! Where do they think they get off? Sure, if you were in any other park and your dogs were hassling people that would make complete sence, but AT A DOG PARK!!! :x Or when you're at a dog park and some one walks through with their dog on lead and gets angry and yells to put your dog on a lead when your dog goes up to say hello. Some people are just stupid, there's no other word for it :-?
I found a place called Bone Appetit and they are in the same city as me and they make the BARF Diet for you and special for your dog breed etc. so I e-mailed them looking for prices and information. Maybe I could start that after her stomach gets a bit better.
How do you mean about special for your dog breed? Hmmm, sounds interesting.....
For names I would choose Count Brass for a boy or Yisselda for a girl...niether of which is suited to these pups though.....I prefer the girl...and I would choose the name...Iris.....or Patches...no wait...Marilyn :D
LOL, my Auntie has this massive great dane, mastiff cross called Marilyn, its hilarious!!! Hazel, I was going to say Paige too!!! And Sheltie, after all your talk about "little scribbles" I was actually thinking if I got a Pap i might call it Scribbles!!! Penny Lane is cute  Speaking of human names, I had to walk this dog once, its name was Jeanne, even spelt like mine!!! It was so awkward walking around saying "jeanne, come here", lol, maybe if you get the girl you could call it Jeanne
-
Haha, Shaye, I can emphasise with you so much!!! Every one thinks I'm mad!!!! I was talking to my friend at uni today, telling him how I was thinking about getting another dog and he just shook his head and said "Well Jeanne, you havn't got my approval"... I just looked at him and said "I wasn't asking for your approval!!!" People think I'm mad "throwing my life away" with the dogs, but how am I throwing it away if they make me so happy??? Abker, I'm after a prick eared Pap, the Phalenes are cute but it was those big fluffy ears of the typical Pap that drew me to them in the first place all those years ago :D I'll make sure to keep you updated, of course. Havn't got an email back from the breeder but I got an email from the shelter I emailed saying they were very rare indeed and I'd be lucky to pick one up. So I guess if I do find one its fate isn't it? Huh? Horsefeathers, I laughed so hard when you said they get over it after about the 5th or 6th one!!! You're so right about the drunks and crack heads though, most of the people who really think you're crazy for loving so many drugs are those people who spend all their money on useless things like drugs, it makes me mad that they can think we're wasting our money on eternal love when they're quite happy to spend riddiculous amounts on a quick hit that only lasts a few hours  Courtneck, you are so right. I know people who only have one dog and can't even care for it properly, yet here we are with four, horsefeathers with 8 and K with 5, with every one of our dogs living a life many of these unfortunate single dogs could never even dream of. It really puts things in perspective when you look at it that way, how happy and healthy all of our dogs are compared to so many of those dogs you see in back yards every day, who ever said you can only care for a set number of dogs? It all depends on what the individual is prepared to put out, with me its all or nothing, if I couldn't give my dogs a great life I would simply find some one who could. If I was too lazy to take my dogs on their daily walk, and too poor to feed them anything but the best, or too up tight to let them sleep in front of the warm heater on a cold winters night, then I would find someone who could give them all that, and more. And Shaye, I'm glad our replys make you feel good!!! Honestly, if you know in your heart you can give this dog the life it deserves, and YOU want to give it that life, then go for it!!! And don't ever let any body elses attitudes get you down
-
If you feel you can afford it I'd get one now, otherwise if you get one from the female you don't like as much you will always be wondering about those other pups, even though you love the one you have the thoughts will still be there. Oh, and the other reason, that widdle boy!!!! Oh he is such a cutie!!! As Horsefeathers and K say, the more the hairier!!! :D As a boys name, maybe Ricco, Mickey or Peppie la Pooch!!! Hehe, maybe not that last one! For a girl, Amber, Tahlia or Princess. Keep us updated, they are just adorable!!! Post them on the cutest puppy thread!!!

Heres a great place to start: http://www.barfers.com/ Good luck!!! :D

"Give Your Dog a Bone" is a great book I would reccommend to anyone considering raw, I havn't read it myself but most of the email lists I'm in use it and with great results. I'm a believer in that the sooner you ditch the kibble the better, but if you do want to use the bag up you could try sprinkling some grated cheese on it, or mixing some yoghurt through. I've heard of dogs choking of soggy kibble, so I wouldn't reccomend the soaking... actually I've heard of dogs choking on dry kibble too so I don't know what to say about that!!! If she still doesn't like it, I'm sure the shelter would be very grateful of your generous donation

My girls get raw chicken backs as a staple, occasionally I'll substitute lamb off cuts or turkey necks. As well as that a few times a week they get their mushy stuff, which is basically every thing I can find thrown into a blender, turned into slop and fed to them!!! Raw veggies, whole raw eggs (shell included), kelp, liver or other offal, minced chicken, apple cider vinager, yoghurt, garlic, cod liver oil etc etc etc thrown in a blender and.... yum!!!! Just a word of warning, don't get too close for the after burp, its a killer!!! Its pretty easy really, its as simple as you make it, you can spend hours making up these extrodinary blends of what ever or you could just do what I do and get every thing you can find that is good for them and blend it all up in a couple of minutes, instant meal, delishious and nutritios!!! Easy as 1, 2, 3 - gather, blend and feed!!! :D There are hundreds of good sites on the BARF diet also, each with their own ideas, choose what suits you and your dogs and its hard to go wrong

Good to hear I have another deserted friend!!! Isn't it hard when people make you all these impossible suggestions you just WISH you could do but the resources wont allow you to!!! Oh well, at least we have the internet, THANK GOD FOR THE INTERNET!!!

Well kinda good news on the dad front, still havn't sat down with him to have a serious chat but I think he likes the idea of a Pap in the house  I keep down loading all these pics and setting them as desk top backgrounds so he has to look at cute little puppies all day, well he's even getting into it and changing the puppies around, putting up the ones he likes the most! Last night he was even suggesting names, and he asked Puddles "do you want a friend?", and I know, when he starts asking the animals how they feel on a matter it means "ok, but it wasn't my idea!!!" That way he can't get in trouble by mum for being weak, because he can blame the dog!!! If it wasn't for that little puppy at training I don't think he'd be so easilly swayed, he thinks its just the cutest thing with the biggest personality!!! And because they are so small is another bonus, they eat less, poop less and take up less space!!! I once had a "handbag dog" which I took every where, just carried it under my arm. It was so cute, but it was some body elses dog and I just kept it until we found her owner :( I'm so excited at even the idea of getting a Pap, but they are so hard to get your hands on! Even to buy a puppy from a breeder, to find a pet quality pup is near on impossible, I think most Pap breeders have very high standards which is good, but makes finding a rescue hard :-?
-
The Breeder might only just have a handful of dogs living with her, the rest could be co-owned, and live with their own families. Which you'll find seems to be quite common with show dogs.
Yes, I think that could be the case, while looking around some other Papillon sites one of them actually mentioned her name, saying that one of their boys was temperarilly with her while she gained his tittle, maybe she's really heavilly into showing? I'm afraid to say I don't know too much about the dog showing world as yet :-?
-
Oh yes Ellie, but you should see the Malti Poo!!!! If I didn't know better I'd go and get one today!!! Actually, my cousin is looking to buy one, for like $500 from probably the same pet shop we got out "chi poo" from 4 years ago. The one in the picture is very cute, but with all the alleles mixing randomly how can you possibly hope for two mutts to look the same? I'd rather spend half as much on a pure bred from the pound, know I'm saving its life and at the same time know roughly what I'm getting...
-
Yes, raw meat is great for dogs, but don't mix it in the same meal as the kibble. Give them a couple of hours apart, as kibble is designed to digest more slowly and if fed with meat can cause the meat to sit around in the stomach and go rancid, making the dog very ill. It is also not recommended to feed different types of meat in the one meal, maybe steak one day and chicken the next?
-
Hurray for Nadooshkins!!! Hope it all works out how you're hoping for Rowie :D
-
He's absolutly adorable, good luck with Freebee and I hope you can still get him!!! If you do you do realise we'll need lots of pics???
-
Yes, there has been a fair bit of scientific evidence to suggest that a quality kibble is ALOT better than canned food. Still, in my oppinion you can't get any better than what nature gives us, which is why I feed BARF :D

Oh but there's more - Temperament: Although every dog is different the Chi-Poo, is generally a very friendly breed, and a good companion dog. Do (THEY CAN'T EVEN SPELL!) to the Miniature Poodle in the Chi-Poo they are generally good around kids in both there temperament and size. He is a courageous, lively, and a proud little dog, who is always ready to receive and give affection. Chi-Poos are an extremely intelligent breed, and are very trainable. They respond very well to positive reinforcement. They tend to be a one person, or one family breed. Reserved (but never aggressive) with strangers. Ok, Puddles is neither courageous or lively , nor is she very trainable. Do these all sound like Poodle traits to you? Yes! Obviously who ever wrote this failed to note that Chihuahuas are exactly the oppisite, and that there IS A 50/50 CHANCE OF GETTING THESE TRAITS!!! Puddles has taken the Chihuahuas personality, isn't she lucky that she found a good home who didn't have all these high, unrealistic expectations of her? And that we didn't dump her with the first bit of fur she shed? Or because she isn't as smart or trainable as the average poodle? Even though she is 3/4 poodle she still has these chihuahua traits, which goes to show the unpredictability of these breedings. Oh, and for it to say NEVER aggressive, well never is a very strong word, how can they guarentee that? After all, I've seen Puddles nip at peoples heels, couldn't that be considered as aggressive? After all, if say, Lily were to do the same thing she would probably be put to sleep for it, so yes,i would consider that as aggression. Maybe I could sue the makers of this site for false advertising??? :-?

Spot on BK!!! The Chi Poo The Chi-Poo is a relatively small dog, that is rather "square" in his looks. The coat is either straight, wavy or curly, and can be short, or long in lengh, the Chi-Poo does not shed. Dewclaws are typically removed, and the tail can be docked or left natural. The Chi-Poos ears are typically semi-erect at adult hood, but do to the poodle in him could remain "drooped". All colors are allowed. A Chi-Poo is a mix between a Chihuahua and typically a female Miniature Poodle. (Or female Chi-Poo) Grrr  Yes, we actually own one of these so called "Chi Poos" and gues what? She sheds!!!! When you cross two breeds you have a goddamn 50/50 chance of each characteristic occuring!!! By saying they "do not shed" can you imagine how many dogs of these cross breds are dumped at the pound each year because they weren't what they were said to be? I AM SO ANGRY, SITES LIKE THESE SHOULD BE BANNED!!!!

Go to this breed selection site, do the test and see if you can see what got me so damn angry about it  http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/search.htm

I know what you mean BK, I remember the first Pit I saw, they are beautiful dogs. Now I'm lucky enough to see one every Sunday at training, Lilys best friend. They're in love

I know people like this, compulsive lyers that will lie to your face about something you saw with your own eyes. Its just reminding me of this little idiot I know, he stole $100 from my ex and then went around telling everybody it was me, and to make matters worse when I confronted him with it he said to ME that I did it!!! Of course no one beleived him, but I could have rung his rotten neck. Then a few months later he stole $200 from my brother who is schizophrenic and then when I went over there with dad to make him give it back he told us that Willem had given the money to some one else, Willem was standing there getting agitated saying he hadn't seen this other guy for months and Willem never lies. Anyway, this guy just stood there, lying to our faces and we knew he was lieing ad there was nothing we could do about it! What type of person messes with a schizophrenics head like that? I swear I could have killed him, it made me so angry! :x Ok, sorry that was off the topic but I had to rant!!! I guess the point of my story is that there isn't really much you can do about this type of person, sad but true
