1. that brings back memories. When my malamute mix would get thinned every spring, they would bathe him afterwards. Always put a bandana on him, but he smelled like a flower shop...as soon as he got home, he would find a place in the yard with mud, dead foliage, etc, and roll till the smell went away...
2. I'm sure he's fine. some cats are just BIG...mine was about 5 lbs overweight, due to this thyroid, but he's 14 years old too.... having a cat as big as a dog is funny. Mine is bigger than the Chi's next door, and has the attitude to go with his size. In a brawl, my cat would win...
3. I disagree with that. If you are in a place with leash laws, like here, then your dogs are required to be restrained. Yes, acidents do happen. In 98% of them, no one gets hurt. The dog runs off while you frantically try to get it back. But if the dog has a history of attacking people or animals, that would be on the police file. Thats why I would check, and if it'sben reported before (or even not) I would report it.
4.
I will speak to the vet and see what they say. I'm pretty sure its just personal issues for her though, they have been progressivly getting worse since she was about 9 months old, and even before that I could see the tendancys. She's not just mental, I can startle her in her sleep and take bones off her and she doesn't even flinch, but walking her past people or dogs is just a nightmare and an tragedy waiting to happen
the dog I was referring to also was harmless towards his master. Then one day bit their son. There is no guarantee that if it is neurological you can save her. But at least you will know. to me, that would be a bit of comfort. All love to you, in this God awful decision.
5. well, I had a drunk berate me for having a "vicious Pitbull" (Laurel, on a leash, afraid of her own shadow) Now this dog, to anyone unfamiliar, is a Foxhound...how he got Pit out of that (unless it was from the bottle) I'll never know. One of my neighbors called Animal Control when she heard Laurel baying (not a lot of hounds in this neck of the woods) and thought she was in pain.... Freebee is often mistaken as a purebred Lab...she looks alot like one, altho anyone with a real purebred Lab could tell the difference. She is not stranger-friendly. When I tell people not to approach her without my permission, they say "What did you do to make her so mean?"  the best one though. I still crack up about this one... My cat used to be 18 lbs. fat, with a thyroid condition that is now controlled. I had him in his crate once at the vet, and someone asked me (cuz his head was facing away from this person) if that was one of those "pot-bellied pigs..."
6.     TOO CUTE! especially with the cat sitting there... People tend to avoid my house even MORE since the Foxhound joined the fray...you want a dog that makes NOISE????? she barks/bays when the windows rattle....that bay is enough to make you crazy. It's very loud, drawn out, and somehow threatening sounding. It reminds people (well, me at least, and my kid and his friends) of movies where the bloodhounds are hot on the trail, baying up a storm. The mailman asked if she was gonna hurt him...she's scared of her own shadow...but noisy as hell.
7. I am SOOO sorry Aurora...that is a hard as steel decision. But if you feel she cannot be controlled, trained, or socialized out of it, it's the best one. Has she ever been seen by a behaviorist? Is that possible? it may not help, but maybe a diagnosis would. Also, she may have, I'm sorry to say, neurological "mental" issues. Dogs do have them, due mostly to poor breeding or illness. Sometimes, this decision is best. As hard as it is. I heard about a bully dog who acted this way, and they had him PTS, and found that he had a brain tumor that was causing his problems. Have you talked to the vet? My heart goes out to you. I lost Alex due to illness, and I still cant get over that. Do what you think is best. You cant allow Lily to hurt anyone, you already know that... My love to you. If this is what you decide to do, Lily will ait for you at the bridge.
8. Mei.......YOU ROCK!!!! DAMN GOOD JOB!!! Rott.....I KNEW you would not be selling Drey, especially in this manner. I am sorry you had to go through all of this...and I really hope you can take these people to the cleaners....Feel free to PM me if you want to talk. I have some legal experience I could share with you! I do have a question though...are you planning on mating/showing Deja? that part of the post really confused me. You dont have to answer, I'm just, well, too curious, as always.... Good thing I'm not a cat!!
9. thanks HF - perspective is always valuable. If Im ever out your way, I'll bring the wine, and McNuggets, for everybody!!
10.      yea, white wine...chardonay...and chicken McNuggets.. love you HF
11. to add to this - Freebee and Laurel got into it tonight. Freebee did something to piss Laurel off...HIGHLY unusual, since Laurel was very timid, but getting better day by day. I axed the pack rules, and gave her priveledges that I normally wouldnt, to "raise" her in the pack heiarchy and make her less afraid. It works both ways. For the first time, she stood up for herself and didnt let Freebee walk all over her. Freebee can be very annoying. She knows she answers to me, but she wants to walk on any other animal around. Laurel turned on her, and they were snarling, snapping and potentially could have hurt one another. The kind of "show of attitude" that would frighten most people. They did NOT hurt each other it was all show. On ONE COMMAND from me, the alpha, (KNOCK IT OFF!!!!! **NOW***!!!!) they both stopped, laid down, and licked each other. They havent sparred since. I truly believe that the pack rules can, well, rule...with multiple dogs. I never had to touch them. The anger in my voice was enough.
12. GET HIM TO A VET!!! even partial blockage is dangerous..he may have swallowed something that wont come out on it's own
13. allergies. it's high pollen season here. My dog used to do that every year in the fall. Take him to the vet and have them get him some allergy medication. Atarax works well, until the "season: passes, when you will probably no longer need it.
14. I agree with that. Another point about the "old days" - dogs were treated differently. They werent treated like children, they were dogs. Back in the days of "closed architecture", when rooms had doors to shut them off from other rooms, to conserve heat, the dog was allowed in the kitchen to sleep. since it was kinda warm. they werent allowed on furniture, it was too expensive to replace. They didnt sleep in peoples beds. They always ate after the people, because leftovers was a big part of their meal. Without realizing it, people were demoting their dogs to bottom of the pack status. With all of the dominance cases I have had to "break", in many years, all of them were caused by spoiling an already "dominant-breed" dog. How did I break them? Reinstated the pack rules. I still train all my dogs this way. "I am Alpha, get used to it" is the bottom line. Many people disagree with this. But in the over 30 years I have had, trained, and "broken" overly dominant dogs, I have NEVER once been bitten. To me that says something. Maybe there is something viable about pack rules. It's the only rules they know, after all....
15. at a guess, I would say the guard dogs were darted, or drugged, before they were stolen. Like I said, if the burglar REALLY wants what you have, they will find away around the dogs. Marion, did they ever catch the burglar? In that case I would almost suspect someone the dog knew well enough not to sound the alarm. or maybe they just sleep heavy. I have a friedn who was robbed because the guy that robbed him lived across the street and knew his dogs by name. played with them all the time. They did not consider him an intruder.
16. I have said this before, and I will say it again, for clarification. it is EXTREMELY easy to steal someones email address, IP address, pictures, and personal information off the internet. I work with these issues ALL DAY and see it happen constantly. There is nothing to stop someone, once they have your IP, from putting it in their own PC and posting, emailing, and BUYING things as if it was you. Any handy laptop will do, and if it has a wireless router attached, it's even easier. The only way to stop it is to never go in the internet. Credit cards gets stolen, pictures get stolen, personal information gets stolen. Every day. With a little skill, an IP can easily be stolen from someone. How do you think virus' get spread? from IP's and email addresses, easily obtained. One of my sons friends showedme a routine you could run to gather ip's and email addresses from anyone logged onto the internet. I WATCHED HIM DO IT.....I no longer argue with him about it. As far as Drey is concerned, I do not believe that Rott ever intended to sell him online. While I dont agree with breeding Deja if she does not have good lines, I will listen (open-mindedly) to his explanation, if he chooses to give one. He's not required to. I am very disappointed that so many people jumped all over him, without even hearing his side of the story, and without giving him the time to sort it out and figure it out.
17. not hard to do. credit card theft is one of the biggest issues going now, and the internet makes it easier to perpetuate fraud. I will wait to hear from Rott. innocent until proven guilty...
18. does that matter somehow? Men are sometimes "nervous" about these things.....let him respond. and have his say. we cannot judge him without the whole story. and I dont buy the whole story from online ads...wherre pictures, history, credit card numbers, etc...can easily be stolen. I want the hear it from HIM..
19. I have PM'd him. He already lost one dog, Snow White. This is an open forum. pictures, and information, are easily stolen. I am only hoping that someoen is not trying to sell Drey out from under him. Another stolen dog. Give him a chance to respond. you all seem to be finding him guilty, without any input from him. innocent until proven guilty...
20. we need to let Rott answer this....many dogs look the same, and a lot of people have daughters....let Rott have his say.
21. I tend to agree with that. I dont know i it's becasue of bad/inbreeding, or because mom was always home with the dog, and so it was somewhat socialized better. back then, dogs got walked to school with mom and the kids. Dogs got left outside of stores while mom shopped. dogs knew al the neighbors, thru interaction. everyone had dogs, neighbors got along, all the dogs interacted.....the only "bad" dogs were the ones that killed sheep. different world, today. :( :(
22. HF is right. There are many people here, including myself, well trained in "squabble resolution"....tell us your problem. Perhaps we can help.
23. well, let me give you an example of the "obesity" issue. For some reason, people seem to think that diet drinks will help you control your weight. Not true. Eating habits will control your wieght, not diet drinks. This is a misled people issue. I can have three double cheeseburgers, if I have diet coke instead of regular coke....less calories y'know....NOT.... I have the opposite problem. I go into fast food and order a 6 piece chicke mcnuggets, no fries, a diet drink...and people say "WHY bother with diet? there's enough fat in the mcnuggets to wash it all out"...Because I'm a DIABETIC you idiot...I cant intake sugar....and WHO ASKED YOU ANYWAY?????
24. In the wild, lions for instance, the same male will breed with many different females, guaranteeing a certain amount of diversity. I dont know. however, with purebred dogs, if the same thing holds true, since they were "genetically designed" in the first place. I would check with a reputable breeder. Maybe they can give you some good info.
25.
Not to SWITCH over the topic because this IS about pet abortion (and I know the whole topic of abortion is a VERY touchy one), but I know of a girl who's had 6. Yes, SIX abortions so far because I guess she hasn't heard of something called BIRTH CONTROL. :-? Now is that okay? I personally think something is wrong with that picture. It's not a HARD concept to grasp people...I know. I get a shot in the butt once every 3 months. Trust me...it's NOT that bad.
Abortion for birth control should NOT be allowed. One abortion, accidently pregnant, birth control didnt work, rape/incest, chance of injuring the mother - yes. do the abortion. There are places that will GIVE you birth control pills for crying out loud....But using abortin as birth control is not only wrong, it's stupid. Wait until this girl WANTS to have a baby, and finds out she cant. Abortion for pets....again, depends on the situation. I think if a litter is aborted, the animal should be required to be neutered. And after 6 abortions, I think this girl should, too. The maternal instincts are very obviously missing....
