1. ok
2. that's exactly why the average dog owner should not have a wolf/wolf hybrid. that place is a disgrace...they are doing nothing good for the benefit of these animals, but as usual, money wins out. I owned a dog, part malamute (wolflike enough as it is), part border collie, part wolf (diagnosed by the vet. she almost refused to treat him) here in Illinois you cannot own a wild or partially wild animal without a special license. (and I thank God for that!) his wolf characteristics were so minimal, she agreed to classify him as a dog, and treat him. Minimal as they were, he was a major handful in the dominance department. I was afraid of him, truly. I studied pack rule training, because someone suggested it might help, and it made all the difference in the world. Prior to that, I seriously considered having him put down, his aggression was frightening. I didnt realize that *I* was causing his problems, by not being the strict alpha in his life. Most dogs can get by fine without that, this dog couldnt. Once I started pack rule training with him (and I had a capture stick for him, when he refused to listen and I had to force him) he almost immediatly (inside of three weeks) became a totally new "dog"...he now had an alpha he trusted and respected, and allowed himself to be demoted to "dog status"....he actually saved my sons life. It was because of my son that I wanted to put him down. As it was, I had to keep them seperate at all times, because until I had him demoted, I didnt trust him. In the end, he became one of the best dogs I have ever owned, and watched over my son like he was his own. In his elder years (around 8) he would let Kyle put a leash on him, and pull him around the block on his roller blades!! THIS is why the average dog owner should NOT own one of these animals.... I took the time to learn, and work with him. Most people would not. Tying them up outside is NOT the solution...
3.     Seij, that was my whole point. The average dog owner doesnt know in most cases how to effectively train/control/Alpha their own dog. I would NOT want these people to own a wolf, or wolf hybrid. The dog, depending on breed, is much more likely to deal with a non alpha then a wolf, or wolf hybrid. I am talking the average owner. Some people could handle the dominance issues in a wolf hybrid. Most cannot. There is too much "wild" in a wolf to make it a safe pet for just anybody.... there are a number of people who cant handle their Shepherds, Chihauhau's, Dobies...because they dont know how to train them and never bothered to learn. Can you imagine these people with a WOLF???? doesnt bear thinking about, IMO..... :o :o :o :o :o
4. the carpet cleaner may very well have irritated her sinus'....remember, their sense of smell is outrageous compared to ours. It could be an allergy to the cleaner, or it could be that the cleaner is irritating her sinus walls. I have found one of the best carpet cleaners to be simple baking soda, spread on the carpet and then spritzed till moist with a water bottle. after it dries, vacuum it up. It leaves a great fresh scent, and it wont hurt the dogs sensitive noses. p.s. I dont have carpet anymore. The work wasnt worth it. I now have hardwood floors with machine washable area rugs....
5. crates (or cages, as you guys call them) are good for a number of reasons. The dog has his own "den", a place he feels secure. It will keep Alfie from being too boisterous to the new pup, they can commune through the crate just fine. Old sheets and towels are a very good idea, in case Scoobie does rip them up, but he will need plenty of chew toys as well. Boredom can be a problem with a new puppy. But, at 8 weeks, he will need to go out at least every 2-3 hours. They cant hold it much longer than that. If no one will be there to let him out, he will soil the crate. Since I work full time, when I had Freebee as a pup, I baby-gated her in the large bathroom, with her bed on one side of the room and newspapers on the other. Far enough apart (7 feet) that she didnt feel she was soiling her den. She learned within a few days to use the papers. I tried crating her at first, she destroyed the crate. This worked out much better for me. I came home at lunch every day (she was still alone for 4 hours and sometimes couldnt hold it that long) and if she had soiled the papers I took them outside and put them down and let her sniff them there. When she went outside she was lavishly praised and rewarded. We played her favorite game of "throw the ball" as a reward. She was basically housebroken at 3 1/2 months using this method. I still came home every day at lunch until she was a year old, to let her out, and play with her. It's an altrernative to the crate if you cant let him out often enough during the day. He's SOOOO cute Fred. Be careful. I may come snatch him!!
6. HEY! I;m a BLONDE!!!
7. thank you K. Both for explaining it, and doing it. It's getting really tiresome having to fight with unknown "Guests" all the time....methinks these people have way too much time on their hands, to be following someone around and badmouthing them on another forum. Why dont you people get jobs, and lives? Somewhere OTHER than here??? :agrue:
8.
No, HF didn't get him through another member here, there was a post made about him by another member here.
isnt that kinda the same thing? SRC (I think) posted about him, and HF made arrangements to adopt him....wouldnt that be considered "through", kinda?
9. yes, the dog is genetically very close to the wolf. Most canids decended from common ancestors. However, dogs have been domesticated for thousands of years. Wolves have not. You cannot raise a wolf, or mate it to a dog, and expect it to act like a dog! They dont. period. Most of the wild instincts of the wolf have been channeled into something beneficial to man, for thousands of years of breeding. Most dogs are much less territorial, much less aggressive, then the average wolf.
10. nose warm and dry too? Sounds like an infection of some sort. Dependning on when she got roughed up she may have a bite wound infection. Incisor bites infect really easily. Is the tear in her ear red, and swollen? poor puppies...Sometimes I hate people, that's so cruel!!!
11. and I agree with all of that as well. There were people on this forum who disagreed on the thread as well. While I argued with them, I had no problem with their having their own opinions on the subject. It wasnt until the "Guests" started name-calling and being abusive that I requested the thread to be locked. I do believe in free speech....but abusive of it, and personal attacks, I dont believe should have to be tolerated. :)
12. at 35 each....at 70 lbs they would "officially" be a medium-size dog"....so Laurel, or freebee...
13. read up in the post - HF explains what her vet thinks. and welcome aboard!! Looks like a spinal hemmorage of some sort, that they cant operate on...HF got him through another member here...HF is one of the most loving, caring dog people I am most pleased to know!! what, I have to ask, happened to yours? he's beautiful by the way...
14.    actually, I dont think the point was the question..whether it could be DONE was the question.... it would definitely be a weird looking dog... it just proves to me how little people know about dogs in general. ANY dog can mate. Doesnt matter the size differences....like you said, TDG, they'll find a way if they really want to... maybe a little too specific. my ex was 6 ft 2...I am 5 ft 2...he always said "it doesnt matter when you're laying down...."
15. Fred, you're dangerous...now **I** want a springer puppy.... hmmmm....
16.   for some reason, I was thinking he didnt stand at all...I wanna see pictures of him when you have him standing tall!!    I, obviously, am a sucker for a hard-luck case....that's why I have Laurel....
17. oh HF!! PHENOMENAL!! HE'S STANDING!!! I'm crying...I'm so happy for BOTH of you!!
18.
Behle! The Gang and I are all so glad to see you back posting!! As for the pair... I'm probably not the best one to offer input as most people know what I would do. The more, the hairier, we always say.

19. if she is hurt I would suspect that is making her cranky///hounds, as a rule, are very social around other dogs. depends I guess on what she's mixed with though.
20. Hi Behle! welcome back I would call the police. When my dogs occasionally get out, that's the first place I call. to report them missing. and when I find strays, I call them to see if they have been reported. Most police departments have an animal control department that would take them if you want to give them up (and it doesnt sound like you do...  ) and they keep track ot reported missings.
21. climbed up on her back would be my guess...or a box....
22. Best of luck to you Kat!! if you get it, you'll have my dream job. I too studied to hopefully make a career out of studying wolves, but it never panned out. :D
23. OMG!!! FRED!!! HE'S ADORABLE!!!!! :D  :D
24. so tell us about your jealous dog....we'll try to help if we can. 8)
25. and in most cases I agree with you. In this, and a few other threads that were locked, the discussion had degenerated into name-calling. At that point, I really think it was time to "take the ball and go home...." :D
