hillside wrote: Conar does get a nice long walk before the jogging, and if there isn't time for both, then he gets walked and the jogging doesn't happen. I'll bring up the idea of wearing the jogging clothes on the walk though.
It might help. He has come to recognize that outfit with his daily jog, which he cant do so well anymore. Mine know when I come out of the bathroom in my "work clothes" that I am leaving. they both try to block the door...    I believe they can associate certain visual things with activities. best of luck Hillside! :D
the law of averages is not balanced then, in my case.... Dont woryy about it. I'm sure he's forgotten. If YOU remember it and not do it again, it will be a service to Apollo. Sometimes stress, and sadness, and sickness make us do stupid things. Last night, I was feeling very ill, and my son thought I was just being cranky, and started to pinch me. Usually it's a game we play, but he pinched too hard (probably because I wasnt playing back) and I picked up a can of veggies and almost threw it at him. I actually burst into tears, I was so upset. His response? "Well, WHY didnt yu tell me you dont feel well?" I had no logical answer for that. so yes, it sometimes happens. I'm sure it wont happen again, it's just a stressed out time right now. Freebee almost knocked me off my feet coming in the door (and did knock me down the stairs the other day) and I yelled, even though I know I shouldnt stand on the stairs and say "outsidies" and I know she insists on her kisses when I get home.... I'm sure you'll be fine. And Apollo? He's probably already forgotten.

there are no "heads in the sand"....people know their dogs. Dogs know their people. when you decide, that will be the time. believe me, you will both know.. it only requires the choice...the dog will tell you. all you have to do is understand.... :fadein:

HF, slam me if you like....I wont get angry..BUT..sometimes you just gotta let them go....what is best for HIM? that's what you have to decide... I am SOOO sorry....

GOOD FOR YOU!!!!!! -
I give mine rawhide to chew on. I am there when they chew, there is no "chewing without me" for obvious reasons; The vet says their teeth are "excellent".. and, yes, they eat kibble.. there are many alternatives..
as for the canned food - it is certainly a much better feeding option for animals that are prone to a number of health issues, especially kidney problems and urinary tract infections (here's the reference to shih's, which are predisposed to both, so many shih tzu experts recommend canned food rather than dry), where you want to keep fluid intake as high as possible, especially when the animal is not very motivated to drink. it is also the better option for dogs who tend to become overweight easily, because it fills them up more and causes less glycemic fluctuation than products that are high in carbohydrates.
OK I can read that and understand it. However, my dogs (all of them, over 30 years) have eaten dry packaged food, and done well on it. Both purerebred's, and mixes...

thanks DL...I have been PM'd and pretty much brought to task about how abusive I have gotten trying to stop the sniping here. There was nothing intended, but I do tend to get angry when there is a lot of tension, and alot of personal snipes and insults thrown around. Now everyone knows why. I can fight when I have to, but I prefer to work things out peacefully. Unfortunately, sometimes anger takes a hold and I yell. I apologize to anyone who thought I overstepped my bounds. I will be nice now... Anger was a BAD thing in my home....it usually meant someone got hit. I know I shouldnt bring that life into this one...sometimes I fail. forgive me, all...     -
mine are too, but for good reason. The cat knows the dogs can take him, he put himself in the "authority" role to avoid it. I dont understand it, cats are not "pack animals", but he seems to understand the rules and works with it. They treat him as more alpha to them....    :drinking:
Prim, I honestly have to believe (from what I have read you post, and from what other people have said) that you simply do not like Pit Bulls. correct me if I'm wrong, and if you dont that's your right, but a lot of people here DO and have the right to own, raise and train them in the best manner possible. I dont own one, and never have. But I dont want them banned. Perhaps you had a bad experience with one, I dont know, but I really dont understand your attitude....
thanks PT...I appreciate your input, BUT, I am really more interested in the rest of my quote...WHY? she has said she is private, does not want to tell us what kinds of dogs she has, does not want to confirm or deny that she likes/doesnt like Pits...yet her posts all seem to lean towards not liking them. Is there a valid reason? and more importantly, can I help? Theres a lot of reasons to not like a lot of dogs. Some people may get angry that I offered this, please understand. I think there is a reason behind this dislike. I am not trying to change her viewpoint, just make her understand ours. And if she needs help, I will do what I can. If this dislike is caused by fear for some reason, maybe it needs to be worked through. That's all I'm saying. -
It kinda sounds to me like Conar is feeling his "special" time with dad is slipping away. This was a daily thing for them. Poor thing doesnt realize he just cant keep up any more, or maybe he does, and that's what frustrating him into biting himself. I feel bad for him, poor pup! Maybe dad could establish a "new"routine with Conar, where he wears the jogging suit, but only walks him? Then after the walk, distract him and sneak out so he could run? Arent you supposed to walk after a jog anyway? (can yu tell I dont jog? ) to kinda "loosen" up the muscles or something? Maybe dad goes for jog, then with the suit still on comes and walks Conar? Is that possible? just a thought...... :-?

and if they are aggressive towards each other, and she is keeping them apart, would that NOT be a good thing?
