1. O agree with Kat. I have always fed my dogs dry food mixed with canned or leftovers. they are both fit and healthy
2. AWWW.......what a sweet pic.... :D
3. GIVE ME A BREAK!! I was worried about the poor dog....  :o :o
4. **whew** THANK YOU....
5.
Well, we're currently up to six dogs on the bed including a really long and lanky Standard Poodle. I remember a few years ago when one of our written in stone rules was about having no dogs on the bed. :-?
sorry HF...I read that wrong. I thought you meant it was a post. :o :o
6. is that dog OK? It looks like it's in pain....I cant stand pain, please tell me she's fine.... :o :o :o :o
7.

You must have a different chain of Wal*Marts than we do. The greeters that stand in the front of ours were hired on to stand at the front and look menacing. They are like those palace guards over in England with their glazed expressions and wouldn't smile or speak if their lives depended on it. They undergo special training in how to grimace, snarl and look as intimidating as possible while at the same time they file all the buggy wheels to be perfectly square so they have that neat little clack clack clack thing going when you're shopping. Our greeters also undergo rigorous physical training so as to be able to dash out the door and nab those rotten ne'er do wells who dared walk out of the store empty handed for surely they must have shoved merchandise in their pockets.
Geez, no wonder you found my quote so amusing. I meant smile like that nice senior citizen that is handing you a shopping cart :o
Nazi WalMart greeters! :D Debby
GEEZ HF!!! I could have fun with that... muhahahahaha...... :evilbat: :evilbat: :evilbat: :evilbat: :evilbat:
8. to those who dont have WalMarts, it's a department store. There is usually a "greeter" at the door, who hands you a shopping cart and says something like "hope your shopping with us is a pleasant experience". Often they are elderly retired people, just trying to earn a few extra bucks. 8)
9. go with me on this Shara.... I took in Laurel, without knowing anything about Hounds. She has been an eye opener, trust me. yes, she doesnt have the Pit's bad rap, and yes, she doesnt have the potential to be animal aggressive, but I took her because no one else would. She does have a small animal prey drive, since she hunted fox, and I seperated her from my cat for a while (actually, he seperated himself). I was NOT expecting the ear-splitting bay. I didnt know she would continue it when no longer in the pack. wrong, me. I had no idea how shy she was around males. wrong, me. I did not know that she would become so attached to me that she would defend me from my own son. wrong, her. It's been a learning experience. I had NO idea how sensitive hounds are, to loud voices, yelling, even a mean look can send her scrambling. wrong, me. she is coming around now. It's been almost a year. A learning experience? yes. PBL has been given the best advice we can give her for her Pit. If she continues to learn, care and grow, it will be a good thing. She has shown a lot of sense, and a real caring, having saved this dog from potentially being fought, or used as bait. All we can do is learn, and grow.... 8)
10. I dont normally allow mine on the bed. I am a strong Alpha presence, and I may be the one HF was referring to. I have used the "NO BED" tactic with people who had problems with dominant, aggressive dogs. That's my first instuction, but it's meant as a demoting technique, not a permanent solution. When they learn their place they can come back up, providing they get down when you tell them to, without issues. I let Laurel sleep on the bed for quite a few months, but I was trying to "promote" her from her terror of males. It was a rough few months. The one time she refused to get down, that was it. cut off, then and there. She is happy sleeping on the floor anyway, my bed is small and we had quite a few tussles over bed space...there is a thick foam pad on the floor covered with a sheet. she loves it down there. Free sleeps on the couch. and WILL get off when told.
11. cheese is a good source of calcium, just watch the fat content. also, your vet might be able to give you a powdered supplement of some kind you could put in the food.
12. well, I dont. Free has never backed down from a fight, even from Alex who was almost twice her size. That's why I wouldnt trust her around a Pit. She thinks she's invincible....I dont let her run loose for that very reason. And only once let her loose in a dog park. She's mellowed some since Laurel came, but if a Pit challenged her she'd take it on without a seconds hesitation. As she would any other dog. She is very fast on her feet, and maneuvers like a prize fighter, but I dont let her fight. Laurel likes every creature ever born (except fox of course) and wants to commune with all of them, but is afraid of some people....she stands there wagging her tail when the two Chi's next door (spoiled, with major attitudes) try to attack her through the fence.... **sigh**
13. Laurel is communing with a dog in the neighbors yard. It looks like a Shepherd puppy, but it's FULL GROWN!! I have NO idea what kind if dog that is. The guy says it's a "mini-shepherd"....never heard of them. thanks.
14. I agree Kendalyn. For all we know, fate may have placed this dog in her hands, we just dont know why yet. From what she says, better with her than with the low-lifes that live around her..... :o
15.
courtnek- yeah i know, and i am trying, i dont know where he is and he is not working to avoid it being taken out of his check, he is being supported by his family the chairperson came and got phoenix this morning, she is going to foster him until she finds him a good home. she is going to train him to do therapy work which really pleased me. she really liked his temperment and said he would be great. she is also going to list my contact info in his adoption papers so the new owners can contact me with any questions. i am crushed but i know this is for the best. :bigcry:
AAARRRGGGHHHH!!!! SOME PEOPLE!!! They're SUPPORTING him Knowing he's not supporting his own child???? God, what is WRONG with people???? apparently they have no grandparently instincts in them....     :agrue: :agrue:
16. I have two dogs and a cat, that has been raised with dogs since kittenhood. PushyCat rules the roost though. Although the dogs outweigh him 100 times, he will punish them for disobeying "his" rules. Like when he wants to lay on the comfy rug, they get up and move or they get snapped at. He can also maneuver around corners in the house better than they can so he can punish and run. They are now used to it. Outside, however, after watching Laurel run, I think she could take him. And Pushy seems to know it. He does NOT run outside when Laurel is out there. As long as he doenst run, she seems to have no inkling to chase him. :D
17. catch me if you can (and you CANT - ha ha) cheater!! and the new, slimmed down PushyCat

RAW diet?

cheese is also a good source of calcium, you just gotta watch the fat content.
19. I agree with you Shara. The continual sniping is getting to everyone, I know. My post was really more of a question, than an agreement with prim. Am I wrong? I have never owned a Pit, and I'm only going on what I have read, heard, and been told. I dont have any "hands-on" experience, so if I'm wrong, someone please correct me. :-?
20. while I dont agree with all of what Prim wrote, is it not correct to be wary with a Pit around other dogs? The "fight" may never happen, but isnt there always that chance? That's what I have read, here and other places. Wouldnt it be in everyone's best interests to not let the dog run loose, if the potential is there? I have only let Free go once in a dog park, and that was only after she became a little calmer around other dogs since Laurel came. Even that day was a judgement call. She didnt seem particularly hostile to any of the dogs there, so after a while I let her off, but if she had, I wouldnt have. Her and Laurel have spats too, but they will obey when I order them to stop. I dont know for certain that Free would obey that order around a strange dog..... I'd just hate to see something bad happen to anyone's dog is all...
21. does he have arthritis Star? My malamutt mix (yes, that spelling was deliberate  ) got arthritis as he got older, and some days he didnt feel like doing anything either. Other days he was fine. Maybe he was just in a little pain is all.... How do they know? If we ever figure that out I would be amazed. I honestly believe they have senses we neither have, nor understand.
22. I think tht would depend on the intelligence level. From the sound of this guy, our dogs have higher IQ's then he does....
23. I did join K - twice. in both cases it doesnt recognize any of the pictrues on my PC as pictures, although they all end in .jpg extensions. I emailed the tech people, they gave me some instrictions, but they didnt work. It may be because my PC is windows 98, I dont know.... :(
24. if you're wondering why the first one is blurry, it's because she was running too fast to capture with my still camera. it doenst have a "stop" affect, like some camera's. I's just a "still" camera. nothing fancy...
