RAW diet?

thanks Mei - I'm anal retentive about the dogs food. the dry is small nuggets, the canned is stirred in until well meshed, and the hot dogs and every other form of people food are cut up.    this is because I had a baby...everything had to be cut up for him... he now thinks I'm nuts, but I do it anyway...
2. oh HF!! she has a face to melt over!!! Now I'M REALLY pissed...how could someone hurt a face like that????
3. in the second shot, what you see is a large part of a tree that came down due to a lightning strike. She uses it for exercise. She LEAPS over it and keeps right on going. I thought Freebe was fast, til I saw Laurel at full gait. Freebee cheats and waits for her to come around the shed. She cant catch Laurel. Laurel actually leaped OVER her and kept right on running. NOW I know why a fenced yard, or a daily run, was required to adopt her...
4. I invited everyone from dogomania to come in - so hopefully you can see them now.
5. right click on the red x and see if it comes up....this has been happening alot lately...sorry...
6. I posted how fast Laurel runs..this is a shot of here in full gait. Notice how she bucks up like a cat...goes with her paws... RAW diet?

I too wont feed raw meat, of any sort. (ok, I'm crazy, but i will cook the hot dogs for them. I KNOW they are pre-cooked, I heat them up anyway) I have had both salmonella poisoning, and botulism (sp?)....which made me so sick I thought I was gonna die. I have never fed anything raw to my pets. I know that people believe that raw is better, (and it is, for veggies, a lot of the nutrients "cook out" in those) but I wont risk it. I have read that truly wild animals, like wolves, still have the use of their appendixes, which supposedly warded off the bacteria of the raw meat, but there is no confirmation on that. of course, raw meat in itself is not bad, it's when it's been allowed to lay around and spoil that the trouble happens. Wolves eat as soon as they kill. they dont wait a few days. I believe alot of what has been seen in this issue is people who dont understand that raw mwat CANNOT be left unfrozen or unrefrigerated, even for a few hours. Thats when the bacteria starts to develop.
9. HHMMMPPPHHH!!!! ABOUT TIME!! shame on you, leaving us hanging here like this....did you really think we DIDNT want to know?????? :fadein: ok I'll get over it. Well, if he is happy shuffling, and can get around, so be it. It might have been easier if his previous owners had tried that, but oh well. as far as chasing cats? Mine will chase my cat if he runs. As soon as he stops and gets in their faces (He was brought up with dogs) they both back down. If they wont, he bites them on the nose, hard enough to bleed. They learned the hard way....
10. Shara, you're gonna have to teach me how to do that. Batting lashes and feminine wiles dont come naturally to me....my take would have been "we take the dog or I dont go...."
11. waaahhhhh......I WANT to see it now!!!!! on a side note, one of the funniest dog commercials I ever saw was a small fluffball dog, running from a VERY large Rottie, I think, Havent seen it in a while. The dog is zooming around corners and thru alleys, keeping just ahead of the other dog. The ad is focused on a guy in a car that's trying to keep up with the dog. The whole purpose is how well the car handles on turns and in small alleyways. Eventaully he spots the dog running towards him down an alley, and opens the passenger window. The dog jumps in the window and they take off. The guy looks at the dog and says "I TOLD you she had a boyfriend...."and they actually made the expression on the dogs face look embarassed. I laughed till I cried...
12. just a note on the fruit thing....NO grapes!!! in large quantities they have proven to be toxic to the dog. no raisins, either. as far as PETA, you know how I feel about them. I admired them when they first started, for their educational campaigns and getting the word out on animal cruelty, but not anymore. Ingrid and her merry band of fanatical followers (and that's not ALL PETA members, some are probably decent and still try to live up to their original charter) have aligned themselves with terrorists. That show that was mentioned made me cry. I have it on tape thanks to another member. They BLEW UP a research lab. Now I know a lot of people disagree with animal research, but do you realize alot of today's medicine would not be available without it? I would be dead, if not for animal testing. So would my son. I will not align myself with a group who dont care if people die because they cant get the medication that keeps them alive. Nor with a group who ultimately wants NO ONE to have pets. ever. sorry, that's just my take.
13. I agree Behle. From her previoous posts about this worm (sorry to anyone who has worms) "knowing" is not part of his nature...... I remember her calling him a dominating, macho, piss-poor excuse for a man , or something to that affect. Cant take instructions from a woman, etc...If I remember correctly he told her something to the affect that "no dog is EVER gonna bite ME".....one of those.... well, gee, I guess some dog DID...imagine that, with that attitude.... :evilbat:
14.
Much like a scenthound who turns off everything when sniffing or a sighthound who takes off like a bat out of h*** after a squirril no matter how loudly you scream, or a sheltie nipping at the heels of running kids your dog has been bred to fight and it only takes a split second before it seriously injures another dog. This is why responsible sighthound owners make it routine to exercise their dogs inside fences, and scenthound owners on long lines, because instinct and selectively bred parts of instinct is far stronger and faster than any of us could read. It might be so that your dog never ever attacks another in it's lifetime, but is it a risk you're willing to take? Especially when there is so much at stake?
I can attest to this, having both a foxhound and a Lab. Some instinct is hard to train out. I am glad that our Pit friend has decided to not take the dogs to dog parks, not because I dont like them, but because I was worried something really bad was going to happen.
15. I'm kinda leaning towards your being biased y'know.....
16. for the enlightenment of our newest "guest" (who really needs some....) You are correct. No dog should be allowed to bite a family member. It is up to the ADULTS in the aformentioned family to MAKE SURE THAT DOESNT HAPPEN. In case you are unaware, dogs are PACK animals, who live by a determined hierarchy in the household. THE DOG WILL NOT RECOGNIZE A SMALL CHILD AS A MORE DOMINANT ANIMAL. It will treat the child as a lesser entity, that's all it knows, unless it's adults have trained it to accept the child as higher on the totem pole, WHICH IS WHY YOU NEVER LEAVE A SMALL CHILD ALONE WITH A DOG!!!!! this is all besides the stupid reasons in the article.....I could take my dogs food away while they are eating it, so could my son, but he's 17. Would I have let him try it when he was 2, or 3? NOT ON YOUR LIFE. Where the hell were the stupid parents during all of this? dont you have a bridge to crawl under or something?
17. here crazy...print this out and give it your friend. Maybe he'll see the more emotional side of it. I wrote it, so it's ok... Christmas is Coming… Christmas is coming, it's that time of year, where everyone offers each other good cheer. Where presents are opened from under the tree, Children are smiling, and people are happy... But not far away, in 'most every space, are pets gotten rid of, unwanted, displaced. Their sad little faces stare out from a crate, They don't understand why their owners are late. They don't understand why they're in here at all, they patiently wait for their people to call. The call doesn't come, as the lights are shut down, They don't understand, they just want to go home. So this year for Christmas my wishes will be that each of these creatures will get to be free. To go home with someone who'll love them at last, and give them a chance to forget their sad past. And me, as I write this, I look at my two... the scared silly Foxhound, my Lab/Pointer too. And I think of how lonely my own life would be, If for some reason they were gone from me. I give them both hugs and then call the old cat... who of course doesn't answer, gee, imagine that! I tell them I love them, and I always will. I'll feed them, and keep them, from winters cold chill. and I promise them that they will never perceive the inside of a shelter on MY Christmas Eve!!
18. one came from a shelter, one came as a rescue as a puppy, BEFORE she would have ended up in a shelter. Many of her littermates did. lose the attitude, ok? The post was about trying to teach someone to NOT contribute to ever burdening problem of shelter dogs, not a stance on WHERE you shoulod get your dog. What bridge did YOU crawl out from under?
19. bad HF....no treats for you, girl!!! :o :o :o
20.
Shenanigans-What an awesome story! That guy DEFINATELY had it coming and he's lucky he backed off or he might have been LESS of a man. If you know what I mean. I CAN'T STAND abusive people and NEVER will. My stepdad was abused when he was younger and it DEFINATELY shaped his life to a certain degree.
I was abused as a child, physically and emotionally. I KNOW where you're coming from, and I'm almost sorry he DIDNT castrate the guy.... :evilbat: :evilbat: :evilbat: :evilbat:
21. cute? nothing. They're both blacklisted right now for misbehaving.... they jumped on on my bed and popped my air mattresss.... :o :o :o :o :o
22. this is the way I unbderstood the Iams issue. PETA went after Iams (and I know I read this, but cant find the article) because Iams refused to allow them to inspect the testing facility. There is article on the web about the Iams story. From what it says, Iams itself was not operating the testing facility, it was contracted out to a third party. They made the very bad move of not doing regular checkups on this company, it was pretty much running itself. According to the report, when PETA went after them, they then investigated into the lab, and found out that what PETA said was actually true, and admitted it up front. They nulled the contract with this lab, and promised to open their doors and allow inspections. From what they said, they were going to attempt to adopt out some of the test animals, but from what I'm reading here I dont know if it was ever done. I wrote them and complained. Along with a lot of people here. eventually (and it took a long time) I got this email back: Hello, I am writing to you because you have contacted us in the past with questions about our nutritional studies. I write today to update you on enhancements we've made to our dog and cat welfare program and policies. You may remember that in July of 2003 we announced the establishment of our independent International Animal Care Advisory Board. This group, along with other outside experts, has helped us make further enhancements to our welfare program. They have recently completed a new round of unannounced facilities inspections. You'll find the results and recommendations on our web site at: www.iamstruth.com. In addition, we have always had an employee adoption program for dogs and cats participating in feeding studies at Iams-owned facilities. In the past year, we now have adoption programs in place to include dogs and cats participating in Iams studies at all external feeding study facilities. So, any dog or cat that participates in an Iams feeding study will have a home for life. And we are doing even more to reduce, refine, and replace animals in research:
23. Go easy Deb. I agree with you. But the aggressiness of Pits nowadays unfortunatley means you have to watch them more closely then other dogs. For their own good.. we dont want them banned. Better to watch, and control. them
24. HF dont worry. or feel bad. I have read your previous posts on thIs guy. he's bad news. If she bit him , good for her. Some people deserve to be taught the hard way. They appear to be too stupid to learn ANY OTHER WAY... :evilbat:
25. thank you Mei. Prim's posts appear to not like Pit's but the facts are the facts. A Pit showinng aggressioin needs to be monitored. it may be nothing, as I said, some dogs dont like some people. but unfortnately, these dogs need more "watching" for their benefit... :D
