1. yes, it did. but once realized that this dog could track, find, and hunt down a person, find him and hold him until the law got him, that became its primary purpose. they could scent, from small pieces of clothing. people. that is what they are primarily used for, now. They are NOT aggressive, to the people they track. my post was to say **I** dont trust the govt, to try to ban them. because "they hunt people"...
2.
Yes, you are right... the pit bull breed is in serious trouble. Just for the fact that pit bulls are being fought and abused and tortured and abandoned, many are homeless, rescues are overwhelmed, many homeless pit bulls are being euthanized, etc.... And other animals are suffering because if this, too! But as far as BSL goes, it seem to me that Primrose is predicting that the pit bull breed is DOOMED forever! By reading some of her posts it makes it sound like animal control is on the verge of storming into all responsible pit bull owners homes and seizing their dogs to have them all euthanized immediately. And that this could happen to us all as soon as tomorrow. I doubt that would ever happen in our lifetime. So, her postings are not convincing to me. Responsible pit bull owners already DO know all of these things (and more), and they ARE teaching people how to be responsible about pit bull ownership. Primrose defines a responsible pit bull owner as being 100% sure 100% of the time that their dog will NEVER get loose and never get into a fight with another dog and NEVER bite a human being. That's not going to happen with any breed of dog (that I know of).
I wont argue that. I dont agree with a lot of what Prim says. Please understand that my post was a typical show of sarcasm towards the way the govt handles some things. They live in their own world, apart from the rest of us. I wasnt yelling at you, jsut trying to make you understand that sarcasm is my favorite means of expressing "stupid" opinions, and the govt is one of my favoeirte targets. They are really NOT in touch with the real world.
3. thank you Gooey. That helps clarify. I was beginning to think I was losing my marbles, since they all look somewhat different... :drinking: :drinking: :drinking: Of course, losing my marbles would not be unusual...after today's workload, I think I have 1/2 a brain cell left...
4.
In a warped sense they could decide my Foxhound is "animal aggressive"...she hunted fox, didnt she? do you see where this can go if we let it? The govt will create as many rules/laws as we allow them to. bloodhounds were bred to HUNT PEOPLE..... they must not be allowed either....
for clarification, this is known as "sarcasm"....
5. I KNOW THAT GUEST! I'm the one with the Foxhound, remember? Bloodhounds were bred to scent blood. Plain and simple. Yes, I know they wont attack their quarry, just like I know the Foxhound wont kill the fox. That's up to the huntmaster to do. HOWEVER!! we are talking the govt here, who will use the media to hype up anything they want to change, and make a law over. Dont even try to tell me it doesnt happen. It does, every day. and we CANT give them that "foot in the door"...once they have it, they wont quit.
6. mine dont do it. Laurel "wiggles" all over, and Freebee insists on jumping up for her nightly kiss. But they dont have toys they play with either. Neither wants them. Rawhide comes down when I come home, and they're happy then. Most of the play toys are outside, balls, and sticks, and trees..... maybe they're content just to keep each other company, and watch out for the evil tempered cat, of course...
7. were these dogs BRED to smile like that??? she's ADORABLE!! their smiles always get me, they are bigger and more "humanlike" than most dog smiles... the dog actually looks like it's GRINNING!!!!
8. Odnarb is correct. It has become a big problem here in the states. Many Many people want to ban this dog, stop it from reproducing, keep it out of apartments and homes, etc. Even insurance companies have jumped on the bandwagon. This breed is in SERIOUS trouble if we cant get the word across that it requires somewhat special handling, by a knowledgeable owner. While Prim often annoys me (and others) that doesnt make the comments of Shad's invalid. we here have all fought to try to get education out there, via email, and letters, and response to bad media hype. This dog does require special care, and handling. It can become dog aggressive. That's a statement of fact. That doesnt mean every dog will, but the potential is there, and the media is hanging this dog without a fair trial. Our admin, K, is in another country where you cant OWN this dog. we dont want to see that happen here. If we allow ONE dog to go down to popular outcry, there is NOTHING that will stop them from attacking every other potentially "dangerous" dog, and outlawing them as well. so no shepherds? no rotties? no dobies? no akita's? we all have to have Lab's (and mine is not a typical lab), goldens, poodles and NO mixes with any of the above? that's the whole point. You LET them take this dog, there is nothing to stop them from doing it to ANY dog.
9. WELCOME TO DOGO Sash!! your pup is adorable...what kind please? and more pics please? :)
10.    *cough* *cough* *ahem* so brindle means that the dog is black, brown, and different shades of white?
11. for safety's sake, it's always good to have one or more other people have a key, in the event of an emergency, like a fire. I think someone mentioned that. However, she wouldnt need to give moron-man a key. And she can specify who is allowed in and out, in the event of an emergency, or if maintenance or something needs to be done.
12. I have a friend with lots of talking birds (4 altogether) and they ALL swear...Dennis cant say a sentence without at least one curse word in it.... has no kids, fortunately.
13. I had to do that once as well. The baseboard stuff is relatively inexpensive. the cabinet is another story.......It can be filled in with filler and reshaped, but that takes some skill. It's probably easier to just replace the cabinet.
14. OMG!! Poodles come in other colors than black, and white? I HAVE NEVER SEEN ONE.... *****Court feels stupider than ever**** there arent a lot of poodle owners around here.... ***crawls into crate, to comtemplate the "unknowing"***     **may not come out anytime soon**
15. did you ask the vet about Atarax? It's a antihistamine (I think) but specific for skin alleriges. Jarvis was literally chewing his feet and legs apart, hot skin, open bleeding sores....this really worked for him. it woked for me too. I developed an allergy to my pork insulin. To this day, I cant eat pork in any form. Hives, rashes, etc. the Atarax brought me more relief than any amount of baths, benadryl and allergy shots... best of luck for poor Devin. and please!! HF!! dont think I expected you to slam me. I didnt. But that advice is often badly taken. I was just prepared for the backlash, if there was one.....I was accepting if you did so. Sometimes you just gotta vent. Even against the people who care... and I CARE! :D
16.

There was a girl in my area of the world who bought an APBT (well bred) just for the fact that they were supposed to be non human aggressive...the dog mauled her so bad she ended up in the hospital and she barely got away from her own dog by locking herself in her bathroom and yelling out her window. The scariest thing was the APBT due to having such powerful drives did not calm down at all and had to be shot when the police arrived. The dog was well loved and spoiled...it became top dog, when the owner did some thing the dog didn't approve of it took into her...the women started screaming and tried to run which in turn made the attack esculate. Possibly this owner could have ruined any dog...this was her first dog she had owned...but, the out come of the attack was by far worse than what she may have received from a breed without the full series of predatory motor patterns and the enhanced drives.
Cassie, in my experience, of having had to "break" many a dog of "top dog" aggression issues, that this is not only Pit's. I have broken shepherds, Malamutes, even Labs of the same aggression, because their owners did not know the proper procedures for training them to be subservient...or at the very least, less dominant. ????????? I am curious, what makes you think that this APBT in particular was "well bred?"
17. *****Court, feeling VERY small, and VERY stupid***** can someone explain "brindle" to me? please? I thought I understood it, but after seeing the Chi I'm no longer sure...
18.
... then you have exceptions to the cat and dog rule like Zoe and Abby will now demonstrate below. Abby was 3 weeks old when she came home with me and the wee devil scaled up the fireguard that I had caged her in with and scampered into Zoes bed. I was terrified that Zoe would crush her but these two were inseparable and still are today. If Abby is soaked from rain she will come trotting up to Zoe crying and purring and rub against Zoe to get dry but if cheeky Bin Laden tries it she won't tolerate him. The same rules apply with her dinner and Abby is allowed to take first share even over Zoe but Bin Laden gets snapped at if he even sniffs near P.s ignore the white stuff on the photos; they are a bit old and had sticky stuff on them
y'know, after all these years of both cat AND dog ownership, I really dont think there IS a cat/dog issue. They are not natural enemies, contrary to popular belief. Natural enemies are predator and prey. In the wild, they are both predators. I believe once the cat realizes that he shouldnt run, it becomes a non-issue. Dogs will chase anything that runs, that's hardwired into their history. Cats run, when scared or threatened. if the cat doesnt run, usually (and of course, not in all cases) the dog wont chase. Mine dont run. But all of my cats have been introduced to dogs very young in their lives. I feel this is the "Piece de Resistance"...my foxhound is NOT guaranteed to not chase small animals. Her prey drive is high, she hunted fox. Field trialed. My cat, accustomed to Free and her antics, gave her the old "one-two" as soon as I brought her home. Laid down the rules, and they are still in place. Laurel does not bother the cat, in fact, avoids him (yes, she got her nose bitten for being too pushy in his domain). Yet this dog hunted fox for 6 years....but she leaves the cat alone...she'll take Free on first...
19.
he does fine when they are not on lead, but when on lead he got very aggressive ;(
THIS shouted for my attention. Free does the same thing, on lead. Although she doesnt confront, she will NOT back down if confronted. However, when I let her off (once) at the dog park, since Laurel came, she was all "Cheerio! Good day to all!" and behaved very nicely....could it be the confinement that makes them nastier? the lead? in a pack setting, the dogs are never confined. They can choose to back down to an aggressor, or run. This made me think "could this be "flight or fight" syndrome"? they cant fly, they cant get away.... any thoughts? or am I just rambling?
20. AHA!! YOU CANT FOOL ME!!! Pandora was secretly trying to dig herself out of the yard, to wreak Pit Doggie madness on the world, AND GOT CAUGHT IN THE ACT!! So the big smile is to say "ME? Was I doing something wrong?"        they are just adorable. Those smiles are amazing...
21. (MUCH) better luck next time!! Glad you're back!!
22. thank you Izzy. I think they are too, but I could be just the tiniest bit biased.....   y'know, Laurel was not adopted out for so long because she is fearful of men (that I can understand) and because (and I quote) "she's just not as pretty as the other Foxhounds...."     she is slowly turning into a great dog. All it took was some work, and understanding. no, maybe she's not a show prize winning dog, but she has a heart of gold. on the funny side? Free is pretty. She is also ill-tempered, somewhat aggressive towards strangers, doesnt like children a whole lot. But I bet she would have gotten adopted (and then returned) because she's "pretty"...
23. actually, K's suggestion is a good one. Oatmeal is very soothing to itchy skin. that wont take care of all of it, of course, but might help the itching at least. My vet gave me a drug called Atarax (it's a people skin allergy drug too. I laughed when she prescribed it because I was on it) that worked wonders for Jarvis. He had seasonal allergies and would chew his legs to pieces. as far as food, will rice stay down? or cheese? in some cases both are "binding"....(you dont want to know how I know that - ) plain cottage cheese and cooked white rice is usually very mild on the stomach. now please, dont everyone go ballistic, but my cat cant keep anything down but Iams. Maybe give that a try? **big hugs for cute little Devin***
