Fatal dog attacks, need info on breeds other than Rottis/APBT

the problem is in the "reporting"...people get bit by a Cocker (I have heard one of the top dogs on the biting list, from vets) to Chi's to dachsunds to whatever. Little dog bites get reported much less often than big ones, for obvious reasons. Little dog bites cause much less damage then big dog bites, to the human anatomy. Little dog bites require less emergency room treatment. If everyone was required to report every bite, the stats would change. nothing against little dogs in general, but they bite as aften as big dogs. the damage is not so great, so it doesnt get reported as often. -
its an advertising ploy. "white" is not a color in a lab. Pale yellow is, and that puppy in the picture (ADORABLE) will darken as it gets older. It wont keep that color its whole life. if it really IS white, and doesnt darken. look out. they should NEVER be THAT white after maturing. if it is, it's been mixed with something else, or WAY overbred to extremely light labs, which has the potential for causing deafness. white is not a Lab color. My Golden was almost that white as a puppy. but then darkened to a nice medium golden shade. truly white dogs are spitzes, poodles and a few rare others, like malteses. I'm sure theres more, but Labs are not one of them. they dont appear to suffer from the deafness syndrome, like overbred white and merle dogs. I wish I understood why trying to make them white, or very light, when they weren't intended to be that way, causes deafness. Maybe DAL can help. its something genetic, but dont know why it affects whites and merles.

oh how cute. especially your caption about the roasted chicken. I voted.
-
they wont give people their money back for dogs with genetic issues either. that's why they're being sued. I am very glad you got a good pup and love it. and I'm very glad you now realize what shysters they are. they really need to be shut down, ASAP. I hope your puppy NEVER develops any of the bad symptoms/illnesses they're being sued for.

I checked this morning. with a flashlight, since you cant see anything under there. They're all gone. I actually think this one was a baby, it was very small, so the whole nine yards may have moved off after that. this one may have wandered out of the den and gotten caught. I checked Free over, no bites, some of the possums blood got on her but I washed it off. Laurel flushed it, and had nothing on her at all. typical foxhound. flushes and lets the "hunter" do the rest. *sigh* I hope they dont came back next year/ Maybe now they'll think the shed is too dangerous. I'm gonna fill in the hole and surround the shed with bricks. Maybe that'll stop them digging under.
-
I have found the cheaper solution is to take packing tape, wrap it backwards on your hand, and brush. it picks up the hairs very nicely.
-
its been living under my shed. Laurel has been trying to dig it out...Free doesnt dig. I covered the hole to the shed with a crate. Laurel has been trying to find ways around it. something happened, either it came out on its own, or Laurel finally scared it out digging, but Free showed up with it in her jaws. at the back door. very dead. *sigh* I couldnt yell at her, she handed it to me, looking very proud. I cant yell at her for doing what dogs do. she brought prey home, as any good canine should. and gave it to her alpha...I was hoping it would escape the yard and go elsewhere. guess not...hopefully next year they wont come back... *sigh*...

it could be a form of dominance behaviour...she may need demotion. :o PM me if you want suggestions.
I have a friend who was adopted and thinks adoption is a HORRIBLE idea because of her adoptive parents. Now she is trying to find her REAL parents thinking it will satisfy her... I'm with you Aonir. I will DEFINATELY adopt if I cannot have children of my own (crossing my fingersr that I will be able to). My aunt is trying to adopt because she cannot have children of her own. It's a LONG process and I hope that she gets a child soon because she will be a wonderful mother. :D Maybe we should start a NEW thread about this caz we are getting a LITTLE off topic eh?
you now have another one. I was adopted, and my father was abusive, both physically amd emotionally. Most adopted people I know are happy about it, after all, the parents have to jump thru hoops to get the kids, so you have to think they really want to have kids. the "hoops" werent there when I was adopted. If the parents had money, they could adopt. off topic, sorry. I personally would not have an abortion, but I have no problem with it for other people, or pets. Pets dont have long lasting emotional scars (that we know of) from losing a litter.

VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY BONZAI!!! Good Dog!! :bday: :bday: :bday: :bday:

I cant look at the eyes on those puppies....They are NOT supposed to be pointed out like that. it just looks "wrong"....

I agree. Neutral territory is best. Less posturing about "MY yard".... good advice Cassie

those machines emit pheromone's, specific calming ones. They are not designed to train the dog, they are designed to calm it. They are sometimes used successfully for severe seperation anxiety. This is not the same as a new puppy chewing things up. They dont affect teething or puppy boredom. They can be useful for a fearful dog too, but the basic training is still necessary. Most of the people I know who have one bought it in desperation, because their dog would howl and destroy itself (not the furniture) when they left. In those cases, sometimes they work. Not always even then, it depends on the dog.
You know, I don't think big dogs realize how big they are and the impact they have on their environment. I can't tell you the number of times Lhiannon Sidhe has knocked me over, or bludgeoned me with her tail or crushed my feet. Beau probably thought he would knock against you 'lightly.' Poor you!
I have to agree. I dont think Alex ever realized he was 92 lbs, and he would body slam when he was real excited and you called him. after he knocked me flat on my butt I took to watching to see if he was gonna stop or not, and getting out of the way. If he didnt hit me he would eventually stop and sit. I dont think they realize how powerful they really are. Alex was a head-butt-er too. and it hurt, but he never realized it. Freebee and Laurel seem to want to walk on my feet. no idea why. Cassie, maybe we need Hockey Goalie uniforms for our walks....
Mouse, You could have gotten all 'technical' with him, asked him to look closer and see how close Gladis was to the ground. Explain how if she was a poopin, her back would be arched a bit and her butt would be higher from the ground. Perhaps he would have been sorry he asked. 8) I think we should all start a campaign to convince fools like him that dog poop is the latest 'hot item' in fertilizer for flowers and trees. Practice a speech to the effect, say how some are selling it but it's not worth haggling over price for individual 'samples'. Tell him he can have a sample for free but for a larger quantity, the two of you could negotiate a price. Just imagine, being able to hand over the poop in it's baggie to someone else. Of course you'd have to be a little reluctant, act like you were going to take it home to fertilize your OWN yard. 8)
Note to self.....dont drink Dew, either, while actively reading Dogo... Now THAT cracked ME up....

GOOD FOR YOU!! for researching first!!

your summers are a lot like ours, hot and humid, but I'll TAKE your winters!! we went through 3 weeks last year where it was ranging between -15F and -25F....without wind chill, and I live in the area of the "Windy City".... although the name is funny. it IS very windy here, because of the Lake, but the city was named that way because of the "hot air" being blown off by the politicians during an intense election year.

some of those symptoms are the sign of diabetes, I am sorry to say. the excessive thirst and then need to urinate is typical of this disease. But she could also have an infection from the spay. A simple blood test will tell the vet if it's diabetes or not. If you cant get a urine sample, a blood test can also be screened for a high white blood count, which is also a symptom of infection. good luck to you! I am a diabetic, so is my son, so if I can help in any way let me know.

absolutely appalling.....did the article say anything at all about the dog being the least bit aggressive? or was it "shoot first, ask questions later?" police like that should not be allowed to have guns. what's to stop him from shooting a person he feels is aggressive? or accidently shooting a child trying to hit a dog? he should be taken off the beat immediately, and assigned a permanent desk job, if not fired completely. I would say that qualifies as cruelty to animals. while I am not a big fan of lawsuits, this guy deserves to be sued.

you might have made some pretty good money doing that....

well my two weirdest are "puppy kisses" when I come home, they both lick my face and 'DAWGS!!!!!' pronounced in a somewhat southern drawl, which warns them that they had better stop NOW.....
-
same here. The official ones are far enough away that it doesnt bother most dogs, it's the neighborhood kids with the bottle rockets and M80's that cause the problems. you cant buy them here (well, the bottle rockets, but that's it) but they sell them legally in wisconson and Indiana, so all it takes is a day trip to get them.

thanks Loki and Kat. thats what I thought. So technically, she's in breach of contract and could be taken down that way..... it's not usually a big fine or anything, not that I've ever heard at least, but it might make her stop what she's doing if the law came after her....
