I am totally not someone for breed stereotyping but I must admit at this moment all these stories of Boxers is making me nervous. Especially the one about the dog that sounded like he was trying to eat the fence. The neighbors have a Boxer that has been pounding his head through the fence for years now. We keep on fixing it as it happens. The neighbor is a real idiot who complained about my dog barking at him at 12 noon while he was cleaning his pool but thinks nothing of the fact that his dog breaks our fence. What if he did break though? Is my niece in danger or my dogs? I been thinking this for awhile but I just thought that he was all talk now I am kind of scared.
You need to report him/his dog to animal control as a nuisance, so they have it on record. If he keeps breaking your fence, it must cost you something to repair it. He is liable for that, since his dog did the damage. and continues to do it, even after he's been told.

Pics will probably be Saturday. I;m not here all day, and my webcam doesnt have a flash, so I need bright daylight to get good pictures. She's settling in. She doesnt like the food Kyle bouhgt, so he's off to get her what they were feeding her, and I'll just mix them in together slowly til she gets used to it. He bought Iams, which I didnt know about til after he opened it, and she doesnt like it. They were feeding her kitten chow, so we'll go with that for now. Eventually I'll try to se if I can get her on to Purina ONE, which I like better....I havent bought kitten food in so long I dont even know whats out there anymore. She was laying on the couch when I got home (we gave her her own special pillow, upstairs with her food. she wants no part of it. She tumbled/hopped down the stairs on her own and slept on the couch all night) and Kyle left her up there when he went out. She let her self downstairs again. Has no fear of the dogs, the cat, the stairs, anything. I havent seen her get up there by herself yet. She has taken to investigating now. I find her in the oddest places....

hounds are generally very sociable and usually good with kids. Her liFe prior to you may have some impact, but it seems you are doing well. PAY ATTENTION TO THE BAY. Hounds call their "masters" by that bay, that's what the bay was intended for. It is usually to alert that the prey has been cornered, but they will use the bay to call you when they feel something is "wrong" as well. My foxhound woke me up with her bay, only for me to find that the Kitchen garbage can was on fire!!!

he's 17, but has never taken an interest in the pets because they werent "his" (although they all love and respond to him) he wanted his ow pet. I am surprised at how well he is doing. he set up the cat box, put the kitty in it and she went, put food and water in her dish, set up a place for her away from the other animals and secure....I didnt think he had it in him. She is sitting in his lap and purring.... she REALLY likes him. she CHOSE him, I am sure of that. one of his friends picked her up and she squealed, but he or I can pick her up and she cuddles.....hmmm....

the laws may be archaic, but there is a reason for them. There are rare cases of dogs, who, even though vaccinated, still carried the rabies virus. However, that was only after being bitten by a rabid animal. Patti was not bitten, as far as I know, but the laws are in place just in case. I dont think at this point that Patti and Free will ever get along, and X, I am VERY sorry for you and your family. Your son got caught in the middle, unfortunately, and should have listened. but kids do what kids do. I too would have seperated Patti after the first bite incident, but since this happened so rarely, and without injury in the past, I can understand your thinking (hoping really) that it wouldnt happen again. It's much easier people to judge when your on the outside looking in, then it is when your on the inside looking out. But now its come to a head. for everyones sake, Patti needs to be put down. I am VERY sorry.... -
Her name will remain Ford. Kyle is a BIG Ford fan, and as soon as he saw her stand up to the dogs and the cat, his comment was "Built FORD tough!" *sigh* she is his repsonsibility. I told him that, and he is now out buying her all the stuff she needs to be happy and comfortable. Wait til he has to change the litterbox the first time....    He also has to work off the cost of shots and spaying. He agreed very meekly to that, which surprised me. He has wanted "his own" pet for a long time. the dogs are mine, basically, and so was Pushy. so now he has "his" and he will learn, the hard way if necessary, exactly how much responsibility that is.

so....It's 90 degrees out. I hand my kid 5.00 to go get something to eat, since its too hot to cook. he comes back 10 minutes later...with an 8 week old kitten. "there was this guy selling them on the corner mom and this one just jumped out and latched onto my leg......" She's a grey tabby. Havent taken pictures and wont til she settles in some, but she is the bravest 8 week old kitten I have ever seen. Stood up to the dogs (let them sniff her, never ran, never seemed afraid) stood up to PushyCat (THAT suprised me. He went into growl mode, although not seriously. ears were up, fur was down, tail was up, I think he was just letting her know who;s boss cat around here) REALLY is already attached to Kyle. liked me instantly. very curious. does not appear afraid or daunted by anything so far.... *sigh* the guy named her "Ford" cuz she's the same color as his pickup..... I'll get pictures out in a few days. Kyle got sent ot the store to get supplies. *sigh* I'm such a sucker.... :o :o

I have personally never used a prong, I use no-pull harnesses, but in a bigger stronger dog than my two I can see where it is useful. No one wants to fight their dogs on a walk...

well, just a thought. I know Justin is leaving and you are making preparations for that. I can only surmise that this is frightening you a little. Iraq is not a pretty place to be right now.... Cody may feel that. You may think you are hiding it well, but they can sense things we cant. It may have thrown him off track a little. little upsets like that can mean a great deal to a dog. if he senses your stress, and Justins stress, he may be reacting to that. dogs and cats dont like big changes. it upsets their routines. and especially if the change is causing stress to his people.

not to worry. Free was trained as a puppy to catch food being tossed. Laurel was not. Food flies over her head and lands behind her, and Free snatches it up.

ROCK ON!!! I want a copy of the email you sent him!! WOO HOO!!!!! :D :D :D :D

CK, get your beagle. and tell them, FROM ME, someone who has raised AND trained "difficult" dogs (dominant, escapists, mentally and physically abused, fearful) that NO ONE BREED is bad. Just like NO ONE RACE OF PEOPLE IS BAD. they are as individual as we are. and there are bad "apples" in every breed. Just like there are bad people in every culture. It's not the culture/breed, its the individual dog/human. and tell them, from me, that the love of a dog is a love without end. A dog is the only love money can buy. you better get pics up here of that beagle y'know...

#494 - the logic is stupid. I can understand not breeding, and not selling, a deaf dog. they are harder to care for, and the average dog owner has issues with a regular dog as it is. but to my knowledg, most rescues neuter their dogs before adoption, so creating more deaf puppies would be impossible. But there are people out there willing to adopt them. Like DAL and Divine, and can train them effectively. So why put them to sleep? I signed.

T&J, did you read Seijun's other posts? I agree with him that spaying Patti may be the solution in the long run. I too have studied wolf behavior, and to me this looks like Patti is feeling "higher up" the ladder than Free, and expects her to back down. She may never do that. It may resolve your dilemna to get her spayed so the two females are at an equal status in your "pack". In the presence of an un-neutered male, since she is not spayed, she could be fighting for mating rights. It's not uncommon in a pack. Like Seijun said, males fight for rank, females can fight to the death, for the right to bear young.... -
found this on a web sight is it true about female dogs???
courtnek replied to CKMILK's topic in Everything about dogs
no 5 is not too old. my Foxhound was spayed right before I took her home as part of the adoption agreement, and she's 6. no bad affects. -

I agree with Seijun. Patti is starting the "bitch wars", posiibly because she is unspayed and in the presence of an un-neutered male. She may consider Free competition, and also, I believe she is aware that Free is spayed (they can tell somehow) and feels "higher up" on the ladder. Since Free isnt backing down once the fight starts, Patti isnt quitting either. It cant hurt to try. it may solve your dilemna...... -
yea that's it. the 31k one. It changes the name of the attachment as it moves on. It comes across as cute puppies, kittens, fotogallery, snake, bear, movie, but it has the sneakiness to come from someone you know, who's email you would recognize, so not worry about it. usually it comes without a last name. or only a last name, like mine would have come as Katy or Courtnek, depending on the server. it burned a bunch of people at work because they were getting emails from their bosses, and didnt think twice about opening them. I got lucky. The first one that came through was from someone I didnt know, but I must have been on their address list, the second came from a guy that no longer works there. That tipped me off.

SHORTAGE OF LITTLE DOGS??? WHAT??? like K said.....and I agree wholeheartedly...log onto Petfinder.com, just ONE rescue site available. they have little dogs for adoption OUT THE WAZOO....as well as big and medium sized dogs too. and contrary to popular belief, they arent all mixes or mess ups. Some of them are purebreds. little purebred dogs that "didnt fit in".... there are rescue societies for almost every purebred available. if there is shortage, why is there a need for rescue societies? if there was a shortage, I wouldnt have my Foxhound. If there was a shortage, there would be no need for rescue societies for every breed imaginable. where are you getting your stats?

A questio for those of you with older dogs...
courtnek replied to Taurus and Jada's topic in Everything about dogs
no dysplacia comes on over time. there are symproms ahead of time. it doesnt just "happen"....he sounds like he's sick. could have an infection, or just about anything. any chance he could have gotten into something? antifreeze? oil? I dont want to be an alarmist, but his sudden disinterest in everything is not normal. a sick dog acts this way. the sooner you can get him to a vet, the better.
