1.
My immediate reaction was that the dog was merely trying to take the "small pink thing" back to the "people" who should be watching it...I bet the dog knew it should not be there unsupervised
I tend to agree with this. If it was a true "attack" the baby would not have survived. The head fracture could have been from dropping the baby on the kitchen floor, and if it had picked the baby up in true doggie fashion it would have been by the neck. accounting for the bites. Maybe the baby was crying and the poor dog was just trying to take it to its parent. no one will ever know. the fact that the other kids got taken away tells a tale on its own. it wasnt because of the dogs, thats for sure......
2. **sigh** JEALOUS! of Ford. he has never been a lap kitty, in all his years. he treats the dogs like they are his servants, but since the new kitty came, he is suddenly in need of lap pettings, huggings, and all aroundattenion. He gets mad and pushes in if I pet Ford. Ford is a baby, and doesnt really care, she just comes back later...it's too funny for words. someone put Pushy in his place? I NEVER thought it would happen.... I give him all the additional attention. but its still funny. SO FULL of himself, and now competing with a kitten....
3.        the disclaimer cracked me up...lucky I wasnt eating anything...
4.     from the mouths of babes......leave it to children to point out any little discrepancy they can find.....I bet that just ticked her off more. heres you with the big bad "nasty" dog, who is perfectly controlled, and heres her with an out of control dog making commentary about yours. Bet that embarassed her just a WEE bit.... :evilbat: :evilbat:
5. Poor HF!! I only had two dogs when Kyle was on crutches, and I think he nicled both of them, and the cat, a number of times....especially Freebee. Maybe that's Tucker too. Free cant stand it if anything is "wrong" or out of the ordinary, and insisted on sticking to Kyle like glue. Which is why she got nicked and stepped on so often. Maybe its a lab thing? what did you do to your leg? I didnt hear that story somehow...
6.
"In a perfect world, all other than human animals would be free of human interference, dogs and cats would part of the ecological scheme." PETA's Statement on Companion Animals
absolutely impossible. the dog and housecat of today could not live long healthy lives in the wild. they no longer have the tools, although I give cats better odds than dogs. Feral cats "make it", but its not pretty and its not a long, happy life curled up in someone's lap. it consists of being cold, underfed, chased by other animals. hit by cars. dogs and cats were never really part of the ecological scheme. they were developed by people, for companionship, because they were worshipped, to help man do his daily tasks easier. the really ridiculous part of PETA's lies is that they somehow think our pets would be better off "running free", or becoming extinct. I wonder if they know that? Animals kept decently in a good home with lots of love and care, bond to their owners, not hate them. as far as being a vegen, I dont care what anybody eats. We are all part of the circle of life, including humans. Man developed as a carnivore/omnivore, and remains an omnivore today. Wolves are basically carnivores, although they can and will eat anything available if necessary, including digging up roots and tubers if hungry enough. If given a choice, however, the wolf would choose meat. and to get the meat he needs, he has to kill another animal. or feed on one something else killed. either way the prey animal has to die. that is the way life goes. to have to resort to terrorism to get your point across just proves to me that not many people are listening....and blowing up buildings is not going to make them run to join your side.
7. I have stepped on poor Ford (the new kitty) more times than I want to admit....she sqwacks, and runs away, only to come back to be loved for it. poor thing is going to end up mashed...the dogs step on her, the big cat assaults her (although not meanly, in play, but hes a lot bigger than she is) POOR LITTLE THING. brought to a house with two big dogs, and an attitude-abundant cat....
8. ok lets all think a minute. I dont think the people posting about small dogs being irritating sometimes (usually because their owners think it's cute) or about big dogs being better, or any of that. we all agree the owner of these dogs should not get them back. I personally feel she should have to pay an outrageous fine to get them back, outrageous enough to make her think before letting her dogs run loose. Personally, I think they should be rehomed. I dont want to see them die, but I doubt anyone would be willing to have them after three bites. And I dont think she should get them back, because I dont think she will change her ways. and I dont think any fine they give her would be high enough to make her change. As far as people not getting outraged about it, it's not because they are small dogs, its because there isnt any laws, or community outrage, and media hype about getting rid of ALL Bichon's.....If there was I can guarantee you'd find people here in full voice.
9. I hate to disagree (actually, no I dont) but NO dog, big or small, should be allowed to run free. unles its in an area where dogs running free is allowed. this dog should have been leashed. I dont care thats its small. however, the media will always make a bigger deal out of a "big" dog running loose. bigger bites, bigger scars. more damage. why should little out of control dogs be given a bigger break? they should ALL be CONTAINED!!
10. there are some people here who glare at my Foxhound, They dont know what she is so assume she's dangerous. she's afraid of everybody, that's the irony... they all see my Lab and say "OH, A LAB!!" she will get nasty before Laurel will....
11. oh what a cute Staffwilder....      beautiful dog, no joke! :fadein:
12.

I want my meat killed in a humane way I will pick it up from the supermarket I do not agree with hunts- our MP has been trying to ban them in our area There are other ways of entertainment
You might want to examine your assumptions. Many slaughterhouse techniques are far from humane. A clean kill done in a fair chase hunt, with the animal used for food, leather, etc is at least as humane a death and is at least as moral. If you're not a vegetarian, you really can't argue against doing the killing yourself as opposed to buying meat neatly packaged in a way that distances you from the animal whose death sustains you. I personally don't hunt, but I know many people who do. Many of them are staunch environmentalists and care more about the animals they kill than many people who oppose hunting. Sadly, there are also the cretinous macho morons whose only interest is in mowing down God's creatures for blood lust and/or a trophy on the wall.
I have to agree with this. A clean shot is a much more humane, less painful death than getting hit by a car, or some of the methods the uglier slaughterhouses use. I dont personally hunt, although I would learn if I had to since I am no stranger to firing a gun. But that would only be to survive. I would never engage is sport hunting. there does need to be a way to control the surplus deer population though.
13. OK Mei, I have to ask. what does squirrel taste like? (Hard to define, I know)....I have had venison, both in steaks, and jerky (venison jerky is phenomenal) and Pheasant, quail, duck, I have heard possum is tasty, but never eat any. I have eaten rattlesnake. No, it doesnt taste like chicken. but more like the texture of lobster, and is very bland without seasoning. My sister lives in the montains, and thought she would gross me out...    also, Emu. from a friend in Canada, where it is very popular. It's a big bird, but the meat is mostly dark and its very tasty.
14. keep the replies coming. I intend to post them, unless someone doesnt want me too. the deer need to be controlled. by hunting, or whatever means, but they are dying painfully, and causing pain to people who hit them, not meaning to. thanks!!!!
15. this post started on another forum with a long lecture on why sport hunting is bad. I dont argue that, but I posted about part of it, which is clearly wrong. and would like your opinions please. Do you have "free wandering deer" in your area? From me:I am against hunting for sport and always have been. However, I have friends who hunt, mostly bird hunting, and they do eat the kill. They have pheasant and quail for Thanksgiving, and its very good. They hunt with a weimaraner, trained to retrieve. as far as this quote, it is simply wrong. Quote: Myth: Hunting is a necessary management tool that controls "surplus" animals and prevents overpopulation and starvation. State wildlife agencies often argue that our cities and rural lands would be overrun with wild animals if hunting were disallowed. However, the biological truth is that animals regulate their own populations, based upon available food and habitat. In nature, unaltered by humans, there is no such thing as a "surplus" animal. come to MY neck of the woods. There are so many surplus deer here, that at least one gets hit by a car EVERY DAY. My son hit one with his truck. In a highly populated, strip mall overrun area of the CITY I live in. It was heading for a small patch of forest preserve behind the strip malls, and crossed a 4-lane interstate road to get there. Not only did it cost me hundreds of dollars in repair to the truck, it lost its leg and died in the process. Yes, lost its leg. It got ripped off by the impact with the truck. Do you find this an easier, more humane death than being shot? The leg flew up on the hood and impacted with the windshield. Try visualizing that for a minute. in all honesty, there is no such thing as "...nature, unalterd by humans..." and that wont change anytime soon. BTW, the coyotes and fox have moved back into the area, probably because the deer, possums, racoons and various other prey animals are here in ABUNDANCE.... coincidence? I dont think so. from her: That is because many hunted species are farmed by the government to boost huntin liscence sales. Tell me your state, and I'll show you all the farms in it. Responsefrom her: Pruchniaks Deer Farm Wauconda, IL P: (847) 526-1183 my response: my point is made. The closest one is Wauconda, which is 15-20 miles from here, and all the rest are in middle to southern illinois, where there is a lot more open space. I really DONT think those deer from Wauconda wandered here. The deer HERE are breeding because there is a lot of forest preserve space to feed from, and there are NO natural predators (up until lately) to keep them in line. so much for they wont overpopulate on their own. she had no response to that. no counter argument. nothing. I am upset, because this is what PETA is teaching people (she is a member) and its completely UNTRUE!!! While I dont agree wiht sports hunting, too many people get killed from impact with a deer. If I hit one, in my little Beetle, I would probably not survive it. My sons truck has a steel bumper in front, which took the majority of the blow, but the scene was VERY UGLY.... opinions, please?
16. I agree with the low thyroid check. Also, X, I know you had a bad neutering experience, but I would have the male done as well. Keep them all basically at the same level. You KNOW how exhausting babies can be!!! I really hope this works out for you! I stress again to have them all neutered. Maybe you're sick of hearing this, but it does help ease a lot of problems training and socialization wise, and in the log run its better medically for the dogs.
17. dont feel bad T&J...my cat beefed up and I just thought it was age and lack of activity. he doesnt move quite like he used to. When he started shedding excessively (for a short haired cat..his fur was falling out) the vet checked him for thyroid and we pinpointed it. he has lost 4 lbs., alot for a cat, and has much more energy now. He has taken on the kitten already!! (not hurt him, but plays with him) glad Taurus will be ok. He CANT be sick!! I had a dog named Taurus!! (ok he was a Golden., but STILL!!!)
18. what the hell were they doing running loose in the first place? if nothing else, they could possibly get her on leash laws.... people are just stupid. Just because the dog is small, and the bites less radical, doesnt mean it doesnt hurt the bitten person, and cause scarring.... ggrrrrrrr....
19. ok my take. there are SOME dogs who are just simply stubborn. All the treating in the world wont stop them from doing what they want. I took Free to a friends house and put her on their "electric fence" collar. (I have a six foot fence around my yard). I dont know how those collars are shock wise to an e-collar, but it slowed her down not at all. all she did was grimace and yelp a little as she sailed though the barrier. I had her on a long long leash, she had to come back through the barrier when the leash stopped her. again, just a yelp. but I dont believe these are "first time" solutions. I dont argue with their use, but only when necessary.
20. I agree. Leave a lead (a short, two foot one) on her in the house. let her drga it around, but only when yu are present. treat her for wearing it without issues. when outside, til she grows up a little, a long leash or extend-a-lead may make her feel less confined. Labs follow their noses. there are SOOO many good smells they want to bound after!! Also, for my lab I have a no-pull harness, which I attach to an extend-a-lead so she can wander up front. it makes the walks much easier.
21. he is disgustingly cute.....hmmm.....I was afraid K would have heart failure. welcome back Kiger, and you're right. The trolls are annoying, but we had a hell of a time handing out food recipes to each other to blindside one. I almost went into catering!!!     :evilbat:
22. both my cat and myself are on thyroid meds. for low thyroid. lethargy is common. irritability is common. weight gain is common. what meds did they give you? I've been taking them for years. Levoxyl is what I take. I think the cat is basically taking the same thing, under a different name, but the label has fallen off the bottle. I will have to take mine for life. so will the cat. I dont know of any side affects from them, unless you stop taking them.
23. I can agree with that. I used to have my malamute mix "thinned" every summer. his winter coat was suffocating in Chicago summers, and it took way too long to blow out completely. He was always uncomfortable. I would take him to the boarding kennels, where I knew everybody, and they would remove the majority of the undercoat while leaving the top coat intact. They always let me stay with him, until he got used to it. When he was done, he looked like half a dog. the majority of his bulk was hair. When I brought him home, I made sure my son and X made a big fuss over him, asking him in happy voices "Do you feel ALL better now?" and I never let them laugh at him. after a couple seasons of this, he was fine to be left at the vet to be thinned without me, and they never had an issue with him. His first visit, they muzzled him cuz he was afraid and growling, and that's why I asked if I could stay with him.
24. did the pups look anything like this? Weimaraners often have grey eyes.
25. yea, he SURPRISED ME!!! she wouldnt drink from the plastic food/drink dish. kept trying to drown herself in the "BIG" pet water bowl, the one they ALL drink out of..I put a small glass dish down. by the big dish. she drinks out of that. hmmm...
