1. personally, if you have to tie them out, I prefer runners. a steel cable attached between a house and garage, or garage and shed, that you clip a leash onto and it allows them ot run with out the fear of getting tangled. depending on the length of the leash, they can investigate side to side as well. if you have a fence, could it not be raised so they cant get out? that would be my choice.... :)
2. THAT I could work with.... :evilbat: :evilbat: :evilbat: :evilbat:
3. actually Crested, jail would be better, simply because in a mental facility governed by the COunty or State, they could decide to let them out in three months, instead of three years, depending on if the resident pyschologist "thinks" he sees improvement....
4. I have always felt that wolves opted to join us. We couldnt have forced them to anyway, and how (and why) would someone try to take a pup from a den without the pack attacking them? Packs are very protective of their young. as far as pack rules, I honestly think most households exercise them without even realizing they are doing it. You are the one providing the food, shelter and affection, and in return you expect the dogs to obey you and do what they're told. That's basically the way a pack works. Everyone agrees to get along, because it's in everyone's best interests to do so. Contrary to popular culture, most packs dont fight with each other (other than the occasional squabble, which is usually all show anyway, even pet dogs do that sometimes; mine do) and the Alpha is more of the "benevolent King" type, rather than the popular notion of nasty and vicious. dogs are not wolves, and their reactions are somewhat more intuned to people, but the instincts are still there. But I do believe they need a strong hand and voice, to teach them what is proper and allowed for them to do. That's what an Alpha does. Most people mistakenly think of the Alpha as the "hand of doom". That's not the case. :D
5. I'd check with the police on that Majies. Reason being, they used to say here that if you had dogs (especially large ones) that you needed to have a "Beware Of Dog" sign on your fence so people wouldnt enter your yard. Also on the front door. Now I am reading that's not a good idea, that you are basically "advertising" that you have a "dangerous dog"..... it seems like the decent people just cant win anymore....the "scumbag" lawyers that Ferky1 refers to seem to want to make decency and self protection against criminals a crime.....My best friend is a lawyer, and she says the same thing....
6. I apologize for the harshness of my post. I know that kind of language is frowned upon, with good reason. I was just SOOOO angry last night after reading that that I wanted to just reach through the screen and throttle those people.
7. If the police and the newspapers are decent, since she asked to not have her name revealed, he may not be able to sue cause he doesnt know who she is. I dont know what the legal responsibility is for something like that. since he attacked here in her own car, are they required to give out her name and personal information? since she committed no crime? while I would like to see the dog get an award, if it were me I'd rather not let it be a big news item....
8.
enable her to parent
????????? ARE THEY OUTTA THEIR F***ING MINDS????? she has already PROVED she cannot parent by letting DOGS discipline for her!!! OH MY GOD!!!!!!
9. they are very friendly, roll-over-and-play dogs. they need lots of exercise, and love to escape if possible. they are big babies. not the watchdog type, although the bay is so loud, and intense, it could well drive off a burglar.....
10. ssssoooo.......tell us the story already!!! How did Web end up as the "poster dog" ????????
11.    THAT CRACKED ME UP!!!! Hell, we are WAY too censored in the US.....
12.      mom's have a way of "knowing" things. I think it's a gift from heaven.... everyone thinks I'm NUTS when I say that, but we DO!! My son was looking for a job for the longest time, and I just got this "feeling" about this one place, and told him to go. He argued. said he hadnt heard they were hiring. I said "go anyway!" and sure enough, he got hired. I hope you really enjoy your time there if you get to do it. that's the most important thing. 8) 8)
13. Ess, K is your example. she has been waiting FOREVER to get a Bully. so a month at most will fly by. she is right, you have time to prepare, buy the special stuff, and your dog will be fixed and ready to play when it comes home. K, we are dating ourselves with this "sensible" stuff...
14. wasnt much, actually... you said to contact you with dogs not on your list...there's no Foxhounds....No one seems to even be aware that Foxhounds exist....they're great dogs.... but I VOTED!! I am the only vote of course...      Free feels left out, but everyone votes for Labs...
15. someone on another forum posted this I got this email today....maybe you can tell PETA what you think about these tactics....you do NOT have to give any personal information to take this survey http://cl.extm.us/?fe901d707762007e72-fe26137475620274751578 I hope the above link works... to which I responded:I filled it out. and of course, the last screen to come up was "donate now!" may not like it but here it is PETA is a terrorist organization. How DARE you hand out pictures of mothers stabbing rabbits to SMALL CHILDREN? and you really think its a good thing for college students to "drink beer, not milk"? your organization KILLED the lobsters you tried to "save" because the idiots involved never bothered to remove the rubber bands used to secure their claws. they all DIED, painfully. Ingrid, you and your band of terrorist fanatics need to be in JAIL. I will continue to fight to have your "tax-free" status removed. I hope "Uncle Sam" puts your sorry asses away. I had to give my email address. maybe they'll actually contact me... hee hee hee hee :evilbat: :evilbat: :evilbat: :evilbat: :evilbat:
16. good job!! children know a whole lot more than we think they do, about everything. I cant forget the time my son (at about 6) asked why girls dont have "thingies" (apparently he had seen a girl using the bathroom. (wasnt supposed to, wandered in) and I explained, but theypick stuff up we would never imagine!! they can be taught things quite yong. Glad they had questions!! the children may be able to turn this around.
17. that was actually sarcasm K....but the real courses are not much better. It's usually an hour or so a week, combined with pychiatric "counseling" also an hour a week, for a length of time specified by the judge when the petition is filed to reclaim their children. this is not the same in all places, however. all of which is paid for with our taxes, since usually the county is footing the bill in most cases....
18. then I would take down a "statement" from her...including what the vet said. Like I said, I'm NOT the trusting sort. I wouldnt want to see you "hung out to dry" because of what this bastard said "might have" happened...get her statement, and get her to SIGN it.
19. I would have to say not rat poison, if everyone is sure there was none available. Also, rat poison ingested slowly, over time, would have caused other sickness. vomiting and lethargy especially. ingesting any poison over time causes "other" issues, illness. before the poison kills. there are always signs, most people think of them as flu or "malasia" (what kinda crap is THAT? doctors used to call them the "vapors" because they couldnt figure them out) but it is not without previous symptoms prior to death. would it be hard to talk to the vet? I hate to say this, but people lie. she may not have told you the complete truth. sorry, HF, I know she was a trusted client, but I am not the trusting sort....
20. well, I read a lot of stuff about rat poison. it appears that if ingested in small amounts, over a long period of time, it could cause issues. so it possibly could have taken a few weeks to kill/affect the dog. however, that would mean that there was rat poison somewhere laying about that the dog had access to. in a large quantity, the affect would be much sooner. most rat poisons are targeted to rats, small creatures who's metabolism is remarkably high. small doses would kill them, but might only make a larger animal sick, unless ingested over time. the older versions od rat poison had strychnine in them, the new versions no longer do, since its illegal. strychnine is nasty, and could kill a dog quickly in a big enough amount.
21.
Could you imagine the punishment if it had been 123 counts of child abuse???
the way the legal justice system works, it may have been the same outcome. They take kids away from "abusive, drug addicted, mentally unbalanced" people all the time. Then they give them back, after the parent has taken a 6 hour course on child rearing....and some psychiatrist who works for the county pronounces them "fit"....parents like this are allowed, ENCOURAGED!!! to try to get their kids back from foster homes, where the kid has settled in and is happy. It's a travesty of justice. It's NO justice at all, for the child... just my rant.
22. Dear friend, Some time ago, you indicated your support for an on-line petition asking the IRS to revoke the federal tax-exempt status of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). While we're still hard at work trying to realize this goal, our most recent education effort is a new report exposing how PETA is targeting American children with its destructive messages. PETA prides itself on attention-grabbing publicity stunts, but handing out graphic and violent propaganda materials to kids as young as six years old is extremely inappropriate. In some cases, PETA camps out in forunt of schools, intercepting small children as they walk to and from classes. Examples of PETA's grotesque activism includes a comic titled “Your Mommy Kills Animals” (see below). Another PETA brochure, called “Question Authority,” shows a hand holding a bloody knife (also below). PETA activists also distribute stencils for spray-paint vandalism, stickers with obscene messages, and buckets of fake "blood" meant to scare kids away from eating meat. Shock tactics like these can scar children for life, and few parents realize their young ones are being targeted. Some of it is even done inside the schools, through the help of misguided teachers. I hope you’ll read this groundbreaking report and pass it along to every parent and teacher that you know. Sincerely, David Martosko Director of Research Center for Consumer Freedom www.ConsumerFreedom.com
23. my letter. hope it helps. While I am not a citizen of Canada, these types of "laws" disturb me greatly. Many governments here are also trying to enforce them. I have been actively fighting them, because the dogs are not to blame. ANY dog can bite, doesnt matter the breed. There are alot of issues with dog bites in the news lately. From what i have seen, its only the "known" biters that hit the press. usually the bigger, more powerful dogs. The problem is that little dogs bite too, but their bites are rarely ever reported because they cause much less damage. The statistics are flawed, because they are based on reported bites. I also believe the media hype about "dangerous Pit Bulls" is causing alot of the panic. Are you aware of the fact that MOST people couldnt identify a real Pit Bull if asked to? There are so many dogs, and mixed breeds that look "kinda like a Pit" that have given te Pit a really bad name. It seems like every dog, with a somewhat flattened face, beefy build, etc...is labeled as a Pit. Most of them arent. The media is not helping us with this issue. Anything that may have 9 generations ago of Pit in it, no matter what else its mixed with, is considered a "dangerous Pit" if it has that certain look.... I believe that if its' suspected to be a Pit, a knowledgable vet or breeder should check the dog. Is it a Pit, really? or is it one of the thousands of badly bred, badly maintained, and badly raised/trained Pit mixes that we see so often? Pits are not people unfriendly, not the ones well bred and well raised. I hate to see them banned because of back yard breeders who have mated them with other dogs who dont have the "bite inhibition" that real Pits were bred with. Katy Courtney Elgin, IL.
24. I emailed them. we'll see what happens. I think Foxhounds are better known and more popular in Britain, actually. I see them alot on Crufts, but not so much in US dog shows.....
25. I'll be happy to write, but will they seriously consider the opinion of people outside of Canada? I wrote once for someone else a long time ago that was not in the US, and I got an email back that basically said "why do you care? you're in a different country....." if you think it will help, I will definitely send my opinion. :)
