1. Buddy is adorable, but I lost my heart to the yellow lab mix and that Beagle!! What a CHUNKER!!! lost 8 lbs and still more to go? good grief! :o :o
2. the lancets would work, but only in a place with little fur and thin skin. the ear, or the paw would probably work. the ear would work better, since the skin there is much thinner, but you'd have to make sure that the lancet is new every time, so it's really really sharp. If you decide to try it, I would muzzle her the first time, just to be certain of her reaction. Some dogs dont like their ears jacked with. The only reason I even suggest this is that you get much better control with a blood sugar before the shot. PM me or open another thread if you need any help. 8)
3. all for it DP! :D
4. oh man Gooey.....I am SOOO glad you noticed in time..... Do you take Haley's blood sugar too? How does she handle that?
5.   she has got MISCHIEF written all over her!! especially in that pose! good job, I think she'll be a worthy challenge to you. 8)
6.    oh, you'll get used to it. Often we use this forum to vent (especially on the punishment that should be inflicted) but no one here is really all that murderous. I guess I can see your point if a newbie saw that though. 8)
7. you can get it at most pet stores, and it can also be ordered online. it's 3-4 dollars a bottle here, last time I bought it.
8. 3, I guess this is just a touch subject, to everyone here. Yes, he did offer excellent advice, he was very welcome here, we all enjoyed talking with him and learning from him. Maybe that's why it made the whole situation even worse for us when it all came out. I doubt most of our opinions are going to change, unless he makes the changes himself. We feel betrayed. None of this is your fault, please dont take it that way, but this is just one of those "buttons" that I guess is best left unpressed. Sorry. Welcome back. :fadein:
9.
3ofakind wrote: I do not believe that it is your right or duty to go around trying to convince everyone how terrible someone/something is. I believe everyone has a right to their own opinion and opportunity to create their own opinion.
opinions are formed (I would hope) on the basis of the facts presented. My opinion at the very very beginning of this debate was that RNP was NOT the person the facts ended up proving he was. Myself, and many others, chose to trust him, and ended up being hurt by it. Now let me ask you something.... If someone told you your "significant other" was cheating on you, and had pictures, recorded conversations, proof of all kinds, even though you had tried to trust the whole time, how would you feel? Cheated? Let down? yes, you would and you know it. Tell me you wouldnt want to tell everyone you know how untrustworthy he was. To many of us here, the care and treatment of animals is a life-love. Rott did offer some good information, and appeared to be a caring dog owner. Until it was proved otherwise, and as I said, I was one of his staunchest defenders. It makes it especially worse that these are Pit's we are talking about - a dog already threatened with banning and extinction. Rott knows this. We cant even fathom how he could want to run a Pit Puppy Mill knowing how the animals fate already hangs in the balance....
10. lets all step back and chill out a minute. 3, I dont think any disrespect was meant to you or anyone else. The thread started out as a question about BSL. Most of us think that's a bad thing. You are entitled to disagree, as everyone else is. I dont think the discussion as it ended up was a deliberate attempt to hijack your thread, like I said, it just kinda evolved that way. Now, its hard to tell with the typed word, but it does appear that your toned changed and that we were being chastised. If that is incorrect please tell us. remember also that some of these subjects work some people up. Some of us feel very strongly about alot of these things. The board policy is that we are allowed to disagree, even vehemently, but we are not allowed to personally attack one another. I have reread the entire thread, and I dont see that you (or anyone else) was attacked in any way. A number of us disagreed, but not even in a bad way....not like some other places I've been. So please tell me why you think we are a "click" and you are unwelcome.... If I made you feel that way, then I apologize. It was never intended. As K said, this board is more like a family than a serious discussion. We try to lighten one another up as often as possible. I think that's wonderful. If you were looking for serious help, like the links that were posted, just ask. Someone will always try to help. Please dont feel angry that some of us sidetracked your thread. It wasnt a deliberate attempt, it just happens. Katy
11.
I dont like smart alek remarks from people about my opinons or feelings (HF is excluded from this)
uh oh.....I think I'm in trouble then.....      I have said my piece and I'm done. I am willing to trust until you prove you cant be trusted. Then that trust is very very hard to regain. Once burned, twice cautious.
12. I would go with gut instinct. Like I said, she may not respond positivley at first, but once she sees someone taking a real interest in her, she may come around. and if she comes around, the dog will benefit. wish the parents could be rounded up and taught as well...
13.
kind of like a fire engine who's siren had a blow-out...
got THAT right. its the most gut-wrenching sound you have ever heard, until you get used to it. One of my neighbrs called AC after hearing Laurel's bay...thought she was being tortured. We got it worked out, but that bay is very distressing to people who arent familiar with it. 8)
14. THANK YOU HF!! that might work with here. She is so sensitive, if you yell at her she pees. she was not properly socialized, and while she loves me to death, she is afraid of everyone else. she is much better with Kyle, now goes out and tries to love him, but he gets PO'd when she bays at him for using the bathroom.
15.
You are right...now that I read back I realize what I was typing and thinking were two different things. Belle's BAY is much different than her bark and has many different means depending on how long, how short, how often (Every few seconds or just once). It's not her bark at all. Her bark is rather annoying! Speaking of BAYING my ASD Beaux (He's an ASD?????? Mix) BAYS louder, longer, and more heartbreaking than any hound I know! It's awful! My Neighbors think I'm killing him because it's just not time for him to come inside to eat...which is when he does it most often!
oh yea....my girl's bays are all different depending on the situation. I can detect the tonal changes in each of them. However, I want to stop her baying at night when people come down to use the bathroom. She is very over protective of me. I want her to realize that if someone is already in the house, I let them there... she startles easily...
16.

does it really stop them from unwanted barking/baying?
Yes, yes and YES! I've posted several times of how I use it on my gang, court, but I use it as a "reward" more than a "punishment" like SL does. It accomplishes the same thing, though.
I missed those somehow. sorry. How do you use bitter apple as a "reward"? I have always used is as a "dont go there" when sprayed on the furniture and stuff...I thought they ddint like it? I'm confused. ( not unusual in my case)
17. you guys have cracked me up!!!     donkeys "bray" (wee aww wee aww) beagles and Hounds in general 'bay". and baying is not something most people who are not familiar with hounds are accustomed to. Baying is harder to get used to then barking, because its a long, drawn out sad-sounding-like howl. also loud. My foxhound does it all the time. I have never tried bitter apple, I have some somewhere. does it really stop them from unwanted barking/baying? just some info I learned since owning this loud, howling beastie... the bay was developed as a hunting tool, because its tone and cadence will carry farther than a bark. It literally "rides on the wind" (which is why you can hear dogs baying from much farther away than those that are barking) and since hounds tend to hunt fairly far from the hunter (with the exception of beagles, I think those little legs were bred in to allow the hunter to follow them closely) they needed a sound that would carry long distances. Foxhound hunters ride horseback to keep up. Bloodhounds are allowed to get far ahead of the "hunter" while tracking people (nowadays) because the bay carries so far. The sound carries for great distances. I believe it was developed as a form of the wolf's howl, which also carries great distances, and has similar cadence and tonal quality. Scotty lvr, could you let me in on the bitter apple piece? I could really use it. thanks. 8) 8) 8)
18. I agree Rowie!! you really have grown up a lot since I first started talking with you. couple of things.... take Rowie-the-pooh with you to meet the foster, just to make sure there arent any "issues". Let them meet on a neutral territory, not your house or yard. Goldens are usually laid back, but better not to tempt fate. Not at the shelter either, since the rescue may feel 'closed in".... pay them both the same amount of attention. Dont leave Rowie out of your love while caring for the foster. Encourage them to be friends. Let them play together, with you. Train the rescue the same way you trained Rowie, with love and compassioin and understanding and discipline. Dont be surprised if there are disappointments at first. That's bound to happen. When it's time to let the new pup go, (because you are so gentle and I KNOW you will become attached) realize that you gave this pup the best of you and Rowie, and now his/her forever home will have a good. loving dog to be proud of and to love and care for!
19.

However I do think that there is something for you all to learn about yourselves in this thread.
Call me stupid but what in the h*** does this mean? If you would have read the threads, I don't think you would be saying things like this. A number of us did stick up for RnP but the evidence was so overwhelming that it was obivious he was lying. I do believe people are innocent until proven guilty so please tell me that I have to learn about myself?
agreed!! Newfiemom and I were two of his strongest proponents, saying he was innocent until proven guilty. We gave him a chance to prove himself, he disappeared completely instead. I pm'd and emailed him, looking for the evidence he kept saying "was forthcoming"...it never came. and maybe it was only an "internet thing", but most of us here feel very close to one another, even though not in person. We tried our best to trust and help him. He let us all down. So what should I learn from this? That I was stupid? so be it. I will still try to see the good side in everyone until they have proved otherwise!
20. VERY COOL!! I went to college locally, because I couldnt take my dog and cat. so I could come home to them every night. how cool would that be? college is definitely stressful, I hope the people with the pets obey all the rules and hopefully the plan will be expanded. Hopefully the off campus housing landlords will give a little too.
21. thick? yes possibly. I would say more likely oblivious....rereading this entire post, and the way this child responds to Crazy, makes me think there is a wall between this kid and authority. she has 'attitude"....in my experience, kids like this are pretty much allowed to do whatever they want, with rare exceptions. They are not given proper limits for their age group. In most of the cases I have read over the years about children who abuse animals, it was either because they themselves are abused, and have learned that abuse is a way of life, or they feel unloved, and act more and more irrationally trying to get attention. Negative attention is still attention to a mind that young. And what a lot of parents nowaday's dont seem to understand is that children WANT discipline, as much as they gripe against it. It makes them feel safe and secure. They will never admit it of course, but it's true. IMO this child, who is walking a dog she is not qualified to handle, and not treating it appropriately, could be starved for attention. Why are there no other kids around? Crazy, do you ever see her playing with other children? Perhaps walking the dog is her "chore" and she knows she cant do it, but no one will help her. She takes her anger out on the dog....all of this is just speculation of course. I could be dead wrong...
22. :o :o :o :o :o :o YUK!!!!!
23. sorry 3, didnt mean to hijack your thread. it just sort of evolved this way...
24. I have to stand with K on this. Rott, I stood by you, defended you, over and over again, only to find out you had lied to all of us, time and time again. you made me look like a fool, and you betrayed my trust in you compeletely. If you can prove you can now fit into all of K's above categories, I could forgive you. But not until then, sorry. Katy
25. glad to hear it!! did you ever find out what was wrong??? :D
