1. isnt saying "up yours" a sign of displeasure? K's DOGS said it, not her. and it was a joke, not to meant taken personally. But yes, some people aret so hard core. and they DO take things said personally. isnt tact something we should all practice? just out of the kindness of our hearts.... 8)
2. I took her to Petco to get her nails clipped. She was AWESOME!!! she was real nice for the groomer guy, and walked around the store and sniffed other dogs and checked out the bones and stuff. Tail was down, but not between her legs. She seems to be getting more socailized. I will make a point of taking her there a few times a month, just to let her walk around, and leave my debit card at home so I dont BUY anything!!
3. ok now for a stupid question. Something I have never understood.... is there a "standard" color, or color scheme, for an APBT? It seems like every picture I see, they ae different colors, and combinatin of colors....
4. Mutt's? out of curiosity...what is it you dont like about Beagles? if its the Bay, I can sympathise..(my foxhound bays non-stop) but what else?
5. I know the "facts" are greatly exaggerated, and I didnt se that episode (dont know HOW, thought I'd seen all of them... ) but Griisom is supposed to be an entomologist, or have training with them. His big thing is bugs. (**shiver** **shiver**)I dont like bugs. I dont mind them OUTSIDE, I DONT want them inside. ok heres a confession. I have a problem with ants and spiders and flies in my basement. tried every known bug killer available. didnt help. One summer I noticed they werent there....hmmm...why was that? My cat was down there (his food is down there) "hunting" I found two centipedes (thousand leggers) and they were eating the rest of the insect population. I let them stay. They live under the bookcase. PushyCat cant get them there. I no longer have a bug problem.....
6. I am sorry about your puppy. But I have to ask, why would you buy a puppy off the internet? Without seeing it, or feeling it? That's the way I understood your post. If that's wrong, please correct me.
7. . eagles are very strong. they have wingspans of 6-8 feet wide. They could easily take off with a small dog, skunks, raccoons, etc, but they mostly hunt fish. Of course, we have them here now, having been driven out of a lot of their natural habitat. in lieu of fish they will snatch up small animals. I saw one on the power lines near the forest preserves here, and there are no fish in those preserves. They've also been sighted by the fishing ponds in the housing develpoments, which are stocked with bass and catfish and other kinds of fish for the homeowners to fish from. The Fox river has tons of fish in it too. I saw a hawk dive bomb into my yard a few years ago and snatch up a rabbit. I didnt even know the rabbit was there.... :o :o
8. which one HF? There's three of them now.... I like them all. The forensics they use are actually being supplied by a real forensic pathologist, who gives her input on the scientific terms and the use of the medical equipment, etc. Most of it is based on fact, but then exaggerated some to make the story more appealing. BTW, rarely does any city, even a major one, have a forensic dept quite that elaborate. However, the federal govt does, which is why in many of those cases, that evidence would be sent to the feds to evaluate. as far as the teeth marks? That is very real. They could not have actually pinput the breed of the dog from them, but they could tell examples of dogs who would have a mouth that size, and that bite radius, and then check it against an actual dog with a wet casting to confirm it. They do this same thing to identify people by their jaws, and even human bite marks. I think the purpose of mentioning the dogs, aside from the blood spatter, was to make a connotation of really rotten people having vicious dogs. not uncommon in drug houses and anti-government terrorist type people. Unfortunately, in a lot of cases these are Pits. This is how they got their bad rep to begin with. Although a letter mentioning that this is not helping the real Pit breed any is a good idea. IMO, most of these incidents are not tru Pits, but rather mixes that dont have the real Pit personality and have been abused and untrained, or negatively trained.
9.      my adult dogs are impossible. you cant get an inside shot. as soon as they see camera, they both have to get up to "sniff" it and figure out what it is....
10.
but the only bulldog I really respect as a breed is the American Bulldog because they are still very much so capable of doing the job they were intended to do.
In my opinion, that is true of the majority of "working breed" show dogs. I sincerely doubt, while watching dog shows, that those dogs could retrieve a bird, herd a sheep, or save a drowning child. Many of the traits that had made them good workers are bred out, to make them more beautiful. Here in the US, the show dogs are not required to also pass a working trial. BIG mistake, IMHO. SO I tend to doubt that American Bulldogs used for show purposes are any better at their "job" then most of the show dogs here. Or any better than the English Bulldogs. I understand the UKC requires proof of working ability too. Our UK members will correct me if that's wrong. I have an English Foxhound, purebred, who did field trialing for her first 6 years. Compared to a show Foxhound, either English or American, she is downright dowdy. However, she could run circles around any of them, even the young ones, in her middle age. I doubt any of the show dogs have ever SEEN a fox, much less been trained to track one. K's comments were meant as a joke, not an insult. You are not required to like every breed of dog there is, but you could try to place your comments in a more positive manner from now on please.
11. you did not appear to find it funny. we here are like family, we understand the statements made "under the breath". you are new, so I can accept your not knowing, but stay here a while and you'll see that we all make coments "under our breath" to each other. its not a slight, or a dig, its just us. welcome to Dogo.... :)
12. SOOOOO happy for all of you! GOOD JOB Asim!!!!!
13. Ford is at that stage where she wants to bite whatever is touching her. I have trained her in "NO bite" but of course, she ignores me. so tonight, I had her in my lap and she was dessimating my hands with bites. I took her tail and gave it to her. She bit it, yelped, and now when I say NO BITE she doesnt. I doubt this would work with dogs... :evilbat:
14. Blitzkrieg, I am NOT a monitor here, or anyone important, but I am a person who feels that post was uncalled for. K is not from he US, and not from the UK either. we all have different opinions, on a lot of things. And we all respect them. that's pretty much the rules. you dojnt have to agree, but you have no right to be ballistic in your disagreement.
15.
Wow...that is such a WEIRD article. I've never read one where the journalist HATES Pit Bulls with a passion, but does not support their banning. He did stand up for responsible owners. I just didn't like his Pit Bull bashing through out the article. :-?
Little more than a four-legged testosterone boost for the machismo-challenged folks -- who'd be better off seeking help from Pfizer Inc. -- pit bulls are a loathsome, ugly breed, loved mainly by those with serious self-confidence issues.[/img] His descriptions of Pit Bulls DID make my skin crawl. :( Has he met a real Pit Bull? They have the CUTEST grins...but then again maybe I'm bias.
which is why I responded. I respect this guy, for having his own personal opinnion (altho I dont agree with it) but still showing the fallacy of banning laws. Michael, thank you. While I dont agree with your opinion that Pit's are horrible, ugly or loathsome, I thank you for this article. It was written with reality in check. You dont have to like Pit's or think they're beautiful, or want one. I respect your opinion. I also respect that fact that you realize, although you dont seem to like Pit's, that banning the breed is not the answer. And you are SOOOO correct that the low-lifes in the world, and the people who dont know how to raise or train a dog, will simply get another one if this one is banned. I dont own a Pit Bull, and never have. But I am totally against banning for any breed, for many reasons. As you pointed out, it all comes down to the owners, and the amount of time/energy you want to put into the dog. If you dont want to put in the time/energy, dont get a dog. I have a Lab Mix. Touted as "good with children". NOT. She doesnt like small children and she is not real good with strangers either. I am an experienced dog owner, I know her strengths AND her limitations. She is not allowed offleash around small children, or strangers. She is not allowed offlleash at ALL... Owners need to be made to take responsibility for what their dogs do. It's as simple as that. 16. I too think a mid-sized dog would be better. but only if it is very mellow, and accomodating, and sweet. She may eventually develop a love for dogs, but for now, she needs one that is absolutely non-threatening in any way. Big dogs are often couch potato's as they age, but like K said they are rambunctious when young and can hurt people accidently. I would thin k an older dog, small to mid-size with a gently personality might help. The fact that her son is there would help too.
17. I'm NOT looking at puppies...I'm NOT looking at puppies... :)
18. oh Mutts, this is going to sound harsh, but if she doesnt like dogs, she shouldnt get one. If she wants to be woken up, she should get an electroinc security system. Chi's need love, and time, and training, like any dog. Without it they become the little "yappy" brats that everyone bitches about. I dont think a big dog will help, in fact, if hse doesnt like animals she probably wont take it to training, and then its an even bigger issue than a small dog. Big dogs leave bigger wounds, when untrained. This is a bad idea, IMHO. sorry if that sounds harsh. :o
19.

the AKC is too much about looks and not enough about preserving the integrity of the breeds it recognizes.
Although I don't have any clubs where I live (except the National Dog Club and the GSD Club which aren't official anyway) and don't know that much about clubs, I agree about the whole AKC thing. A show line and working line could look as different as two different breeds, its ridiculous! A dog could look amazing but have terrible traits, too.
I agree with this 100%. My foxhound is an excellent example. she's a working dog, did field trials for 6 years. her picture is in my sig. She looks nothing like a Show foxhound. She stil has her dewclaws, she can outrun any other dog I know (possibly excepting a Greyhound) and her nose is phenomenal. I dont think the average Show Foxhound could track a fox to save its life. I am one of those people that believes that the dog, in order to win a show, must be at LEAST marginally able to do what it was bred for. this is a Show English Foxhound: compare it to my sig. To me, it looks like a different dog entirely.
20. now that concerns me. Laurel wasnt spayed until she was 6, and had very very pronounced large nipples. I asked if she had been pregnant, but the adoptive mom said she didnt think so. After having been spayed they have diminished some, but there are some still there. Could you describe, Kat, "clamped in" behind? you can PM me if you want. Dont want to get too graphic....
21. 1st - call animal control and explain the situation. It has now become imperative, because the neighbors think Kyra is biting people. Tell them the whole story, and have Kevin's sister back you up. 2nd - tell the neighbors, including the lady who complained, what you have done (by calling animal control) and that you have reported a black lab dog roaming loose and being confrontational. Continue to insist it was not Kyra, and have Kevin's sister again back you up. This has now become a nasty situation. If that lab bites someone, or injures a child or a dog, Kyra will be held liable (and you) because of the neighborhood gossip. You'd need to be able to prove that Kyra was not out roaming, and they wont take your word for it. Since your neighbors think it's Kyra, they wont vouch for you. You need to get this in place immediately, before something bad happens. Tell animal control you didnt report it before because you were trying to keep peace with the neighbors, but now it has become an issue and needs looking into. It's always been said that the police usually believe the first person to report the incident. You now need to be that person, for your own and Kyra's protection.
22. no BM, I'm sure Hillside meant the vet. I too have run into vets who dont tell you things. They seem to think you should already know. When I had Freespayed, the vet never mentioned that she could possibly gain weight, from hormone changes and less energy. She plumped. I didnt know that, he just assumed I did. When I took Laurel in to the new vet, her first questio was "is she spayed?" when I said yes, recently, she said "watch her weight. She could put on a few pounds now."....I had to diet Free to take off the weight the old vet never mentioned she could gain from spaying. So not all vets are forthcoming with info you need. I hope all the pups left get well and are happy forever more. Junior sounds like a good mix for you (hint hint)...
23. THIS STUFF IS AMAZING!! I dont know if its because I am also forcing her to wear the pantyhose (she hates me, I know it) but there is a lot less gunk in her ears, she is shaking her head less, scratching her eyes less (and whining when it didnt work) The gunk thats left is down pretty deep, and comes up with two or thre tissues. Before, it was 6 to 8, to get is out. She seems to know that this is helping her. While she doesnt like it, she doesnt run away, or fight. She allowed me to put the pantyhose on with no issues, a first. I usually have to lock her in with my knees to get them on. once on she allows me to sit themcorrectly, but would fight till they were on. THANK YOU ALL for telling me about this. Her ears are much less red, she seems more comfortable now. One ear (the not-so-bad one) is almost back to normal color. The other one is much less angry red than it was. Who would have thought roach killer would soothe so much. laugh at me, go ahead. I was afraid of using it....         my girl is getting better, that's all that matters!!
24.      I wont show it to Freebee!! She's likely to try it....
25.
And Cat didn't give a sh*t one way or the other
aint THAT the truth!!  :o :o
