what would cause Push to lose his voice??? He cant seem to meow, it comes out like an almost unheard sqwack....he seems fine, he's eating, purring when I pick him up. He was meowing this morning, and now he cant... :o :o :o

what a nice guy!! you gotta love people like that. The Wendy's here has a guy at the drive though that always puts an extra burger (minus the bun and relish) in the bag for the dogs. His boss just kinda "looks the other way" and never yells at him for it. :D
Cow hocks aren't desirable because it shows a weakness in the hind quarter - the bones aren't correctly put together and subsequently affects movement.
How was it determined to be a "weakness"? Like Seij said, its natural in the wolf (and I believe Foxes also) to be cow-hocked. In fact it aids in their movements, rather than restricts them. I'm confused....
why do you suppose "DUCKS" are this way"? nature decided this was best. Possibly not the best argument, as we all know how fast ducks run or say I say waddle
      True. I was making reference to the term "duck footed"...actually, ducks feet are like that because it aids in their swimming ability. The feet fan out to the side on the water, kinda like a rudder on a boat, so allows them to turn faster.

oh no.....I hate to say this, but I am WAY past lanky adolescence. And I never grew out of the "clumsy stage"....
This seems like an attempt to reinforce one of the darker sides of Christianity, in my opinion ... that which says humans are to have dominion over animals and that animals have no soul and can not go to heaven.
I was thinking the same thing Desert....I have known alot of children in my years, and I honestly cant think of one ever being depressed over knowing a dog had the same name. Hell, lots of KIDS have the same names. So is it then depressing that some kid you dont like has the same name as you? If getting upset over knowing a dog has the same name as you, I would suggest that child is already somewhat unbalanced. It's not the dogs fault...

WOO HOO! GOOD GIRL FAITH!! I just find this so absolutely amazing. I realize they can be trained to do almost anything with enough work and kind treatment. So I'm not really surprised that she could phone 911, and open the door (I had a cat that could open doors. He let himself out unless it was bolted) but the truly amazing part is the "knowing"....I just read recently that dogs can be trained to detect oncoming insulin reactions as well! it's just so incredible....

unless you can keep him really still at home, or maybe have the vet give you a calming agent, it might be better to leave him there. I have had surgery and pulled sutures moving around when I wasnt supposed to..... it's very painful, which is probably why he was crying....he'd be happier at home of course, so maybe the vet can give you a tranquilizer for now so you can take him home? just a thought... hope he gets better real soon.

off topic, but Izzy, how's Tabetha doing?

this was really bothering me, because it IS a good cause, and I agree with, but the wording is so ambiguous that, as is, were it to become law, it would hurt the decent pet owners without yards. so, I sent them a message asking them to reword the petition: While I COMPLETELY agree with the sentiment of this petition, it needs to be re-worded before I will sign it. In the "body" of the explanation, it states that this petition is meant for dogs who are tied/chained out constantly. HOWEVER, in the petition itself, it unequivocably states that NO dogs will be chained out. It doesnt specify that there are exceptions for the dogs to play, go, etc. As worded, this petition will hurt the decent pet owners who can't afford, or are not allowed, to fence their yards. If you could see to rewording it, with the exceptions above, I will then sign it. Thanks Maybe that will help? I hope so. 8)

I'm sorry but I have to agree. A complete ban on tie-outs will hurt people who dont have fenced yards. I have one now, but even so, my sone will tie the two dogs out in front when he's in the garage. The ties are long enough for the dogs to get to the kids, and jump in the truck, without being able to reach the sidewalk or the street. They are never tied out, or left out, alone. There is always someone here at home when they are in the yard, and there is always someone outside with them when tied out front. So as mentioned, it would need to be reworded before I could sign it in good conscience. The people next door only have half a fence, so they tie their dog out to do his business a few times a day, and then take him for long walks in the evening. This law would hurt them

TOO CUTE!!! However, I think I'd fail....
PPO must stand between a 14-month-old Golden Retriever and a field. The handler of the puppy will then throw a ball directly into the path of the Golden. PPO must stand his ground and take his clobbering in good nature.
I had a Golden....now a Lab who does the same thing
PPO must serve dinner to 6 Rottweiler puppies, not older than 6 months and not younger than 4 months. PPO must not spill the food and the puppies will not be held in any stay position.
I only have two, and feeding is always "exciting"....
PPO will navigate through 10 small dogs without stepping on one.
does navigating through 2 cats and 2 dogs in the dark count?
Ya know.....they get into our pills.....but trying to get them to take there own is like trying to snuggle up to a greased pig on crack! I have to wrap in meat, cheese, peanut butter....and still, I get a soggy pill that has to end up being forced to swallow. By the end, I have broken a sweat.
know THAT feeling!!!!
Why do they do that?!! It has to be bitter to eat those pills. Dogs!!! I am so glad she is alright. :D
I always wonder that too....when I have to take pills and I taste them, it's bitter-awful....I often think dogs dont chew when they eat, they kinda just swallow it whole. Maybe thats why... I am SOOOO glad she's ok - thats so scary... :D

thank goodness!! I would have been a wreck as well. what nice man!, for keeping him at his house with his doggies. A gift is definitiely in order! :D Free got out one night while I was in Portland quite a few years back. My ex went looking for but she's almost completely black. couldnt be seen in the darkness. HE DIDNT TELL ME!! She came back on her own, he found her ont he porch next day. At first I wanted to kill him, then realized it was probably better he didnt tell me, because I wouldve booked a flight straight home and then gotten in trouble at work...I am required to go to these training sessions every year, and although my boss is a very understanding man, I dont think he would have been happy had I come home. He doesnt have any pets, so doesnt understand. He lets the staff take time off if they have pet issues, but shakes his head in wonder whenever that happens.

**WHEW** - good news!! I couldnt get on that niught either, something was messed up on the site, cuz all the other sites worked fine. It locked up as I was trying to respond to this post, then kicked me out, and everytime I tried to get back in, it took me to Dogomania Poland, I think. I dont read Polish, but that's what it looked like. weird....glad the pups are ok. :D

the reason, Seij, is that its not "pretty"...sorry to say, but a "duckfooted" dog does not meet AKC standards. the reason is obvious. they can run better, "corner" better, and stop "short" better with this footline. It gives them advantages (which is why wolves still have it) that the AKC considers "unacceptable". Its not PRETTY.... I went thru painful foot trials because I am duckfooted. not acceptable in humans. My feet were "straightened", and it causes me issues now. I hate the AKC standards. why do you suppose "DUCKS" are this way"? nature decided this was best.

sometimes things happen. They get out (my sons cat is a notorious escapist, and the dogs would be if they were small enough to sneak by). Hope Tequila comes back safe and sound!!

Does Glucosamine Affect Blood Sugar Levels? answer here
courtnek replied to imported_Matty's topic in Everything about dogs
I am a diabetic, type I (insuln dependant) and it affected mine. I was taking it (on my own, no doctors advice) for arthritic and joint pain. It definitely raised my blood sugar levels. It would not be a problem in a non-diabetic however (dog or human) because the pancreas would compensate by producing more insulin. With a diabetic dog, it might be an issue. I had to increase insulin levels to continue taking it. I stopped taking it because my blood sugar levels were not constant. sometimes too high, sometimes too low. -
too smart for MY own good......grrrr.....

testing the site. for some reason, I went from Mentor to Dogaholic (with a picture of a dog eating a bone) and all my paw prints are gone.... hmmm.... did I get demoted? :o  -
Euthanization question??? the dog left behind.
courtnek replied to imported_Matty's topic in Everything about dogs
I think it depends on the animal, and how close they were in some cases, but I also think the owners attitude affects them as well. They can sense things like that. Freebee missed Alex when he was gone, and looked for him, but never seemed depressed, just questioning. She is much happier now that theres another dog. When I had to put my Golden down, his best-friend-the-cat was devastated. Insisted on sleeping with the cannister with the ashes in it. so I think its a combination of the two. -
Is there an emergency vet you could call just to ask questions? They're usually pretty good about answering them on the phone...

I just got home a while ago. Did the vet call yet?
