1. you're right, it was gerbil's. Was it Richard Gere? I dont remember, I just remember almost having a stroke I was laughing so hard. What an idiot..... I felt bad for the gerbils.....
2. oh yea DP. I've been doing yard checks since they moved in. They've never said anything to me, or me to them, I dont want them to feel any hostility towards us. They keep to themselves except for their illegal activities, and actually try to lay pretty low cuz they knew they were being watched. Kyle actually fixed one of their cars once, and they paid him, so I dont think they felt threatened by us. But I kinda kept an eye out anyway, just in case. They havent come back yet, so they may be in jail. Theres a lady that comes by and checks on the house every so often. I think hearing the dogs bark is what scared the one guy off the lawn. Maybe he was afraid the noise would attract too much attention to him. at least they're gone for now, maybe they wont come back.....
3. Damn I hate Laurels nails. all black. grow like weeds...I wish I could cut them, but afraid of the quick...Free's are white, but never need cutting... arrgghhhhhh...
4. ok a story for you all. Yes, I think that dog is "not beautiful"...but I prefer dogs with hair, short hair. I am glad he got adopted and is well loved. I have Laurel now, because she is considered "ugly" by Foxhound standards. She also had "issues" which people didnt want to deal with. She is not beautiful, her eyes are sad, her coat has dings and scars, from 6 years of field trialing. her dew claws are ripped. Her ears are constantly infected. she was afraid of everything, and everybody. why did I take her? because NO ONE ELSE WOULD. not with all of these issues. and she has proven to be the most loving, caring, obedient, responsive dog you could ask for. she wants no more than to be able to lay her head in your lap and know you love her. So as I warm up her Blue Power solution, again, to try to get rid of the ear infections (its ongoing) I think...is it worth it? the work? the trips toPetco to socialize her? the fear? and when I look in those adoring eyes, and she has her head in my lap and seems so content, I have to say YES!! IT IS!!
5. Bentley, theres a place called STOPP (stop the over population of pets) that will mail you a coupon for a reduced cost spay. They're on the web. I got a coupon for Ford. A 30.00 dollar neuter instead of the 90.00 the vet charges, and the spay is done by licensed vets who buy into the program. It costs 1.00 to get the coupon, and they will send you a sheet of vets in your area that cooperate with the program.
6. awwwwww...how cute!! they look so tiny....and yet so full of character. thanks Debbie. Those are priceless! :P
7. ok so I have to tell my favorite burglar joke. My apologies to all who have heard it already. Man breaks into a house, intending to rob it. He checks around the living room, sees a stereo, TV, things he can sell. He starts unplugging wires when he hears a voice say "Jesus is watching you." He freezes in place, and looks around. Sees no one. Thinking he imagined it, he continues to unplug the electronics. He hears again "Jesus is watching you." Now totally unnerved, he turns on a flashlight and scours the room. In the far corner, he sees a parrot on a stand. Stomping up to the parrot he damands "Did you say that?"..the parrot says yes. The burglar starts to laugh and says "What's your name?". The Parrot answers "Moses". The man laughs harder and says "What kind of people name a parrot Moses?" The parrot almost grins, and says smugly "The same people who named the 90 lb. Rottweiler 'Jesus......'"
8. they are the best deterrent, for a number of reasons. They cant be "turned off" by cutting the power or the phone lines. The seem to "know" good people from bad. They love you, your electronic security system couldnt care less, and they will, if necessary, die for you. What better protection could you ask for? I saw a Chief of Police on the news (in Chicago, high crime area) who outright admitted that a dog, of any kind, is the best home security. The average burglar doesnt want to take the chance of setting the dog off. The noise they make deters them, since the neighbors may decide to call the cops if the dog wont shut up, and isnt a normal barker. I have found this to be true. There are a number of houses in my neighborhood that have been burglarized, but none of them who have dogs. They pass by and look for easier pickins...
9. theres a great kennel near me where I board my dogs. They love it. People pay attention to them, play with them, they always come home just fine (and usually better behaved) enjoy your cruise. The pups will be fine. 8)
10. me too. Who was the star that had to go to the hospital because the guinea pigs got, ummm, "stuck"?
11. oh yea. DUH! It would help if I told the end of the story wouldnt it? think I mentioned before that there is a group of drug dealers across the street. Everyone knows about them, they dont really try to hide it cuz they never have anything in the house. They have a runner who takes the buyers somewhere else to do the deal.Apparently, the police have been watching them undercover and caught the runner, who then turned in the dealers themselves to save his own neck. We have been avoiding them, but every once in a while I will see one of them staring at my house. Kyle has a lot of tools and equipment in the garage which we keep bolted. The night the police showed up (after nailing the runner) they said one of them was on my front lawn when they got there, and he tried to run.Which was stupid, he could have hid behind the bushes on the porch, but he heard the dogs barking saw the cops and bolted. So they've been arrested. Hopefully they wont be back anytime soon.
12. its almost midnight. I was asleep. Laurel starting growling. No biggie, she growls at every noise. I ignored her, turned over, and almost went back to sleep. She growled again. Free started barking. Unusual, Free is usually laid back about outside noises. Laurel continues growling. Free starts growling. Then the cops show up. I dont know what happened, but got up and bolted all the doors. There are lights outside everywhere, and I am GLAD I own dogs, to alert me.. best protection there ever was...
13. My solution is even easier. No carpet. Hardwood floors and a broom...
14. I personally dont care that she breastfeeds the dog, however,it is not normal behavior, and my concern was for the child.
15. you need to get something like Natures Miracle to get the smell out of the floor/carpet. They will continue to use that spot if they can smell their own doings.....
16. that was my question too.....maybe I know it as something else?
17. Who remembers the Alaskan sled teams that hauled ass across country to bring vaccine to the outposts? They did a kinda baton hand off at every station, where a new series of fresh dogs were ready to go the next leg....were those Mals, or Huskies, or something else entirely? saved a bunch of lives those dogs (and mushers) did. There was apparently no other way to get the vaccine out there....
18. to my knowledge the petition was never mentioned. So you think US weekly would be the best choice? I think when I go to the store next I will check out the mags and see if anything looks to try to be competing with People. I'll write the letter, once I get the details worked out.
19. they're covering their you-know-what's, and thats it....
20. I have a thought about this. I dont think they handled this properly. Printing a few letters from dissenters, so what? There was more than 20,000 sigs on that petition. I still think it got swept under the rug. SO, what is peoples biggest monetary competitor in the mag industry? It is my opinion that we should write to THEM....asking them to do an article in our favor. My guess is they would jump to undermine the competition... :evilbat: :evilbat: :evilbat:
21. whats a "ragdoll"?I've never heard of it
22.
The dog that attacked little Bre'el is one of a trio of pit bulls chained in a neighboring yard. No one blames the animal, who might have been protecting her three-week-old puppies. No one blames the child. Everyone blames the grownup who should've known better, and one even blames the mother
well, that's iffy. If the guy is a known drinker, then yes, I would fault the mother as well. this could have been a one-off. But still, if you are in charge of watching a child, you dont drink, and you dont let yourself fall asleep. He IS to blame, with or without the mother being guilty as well...
23. sorry, I meant the rotties...I have seen BC's being used before, but dont remember seeing a lot of rotties.  my PC crashed, I'm using my sons laptop...I dont get all the "features" yet..
24. Thank God everyone is ok.....it is simply amazing what we, as mere humans, undersized, understrengthed and very unbalanced on two legs (compared to animals on 4) can do when its necessary...love goes along way when it has to..... :o :o :o
25. my foxhound has fear issues, but to people, not noise or storms. The article is very good about desensitation. But another thing I noticed, which I think is even more important...are you yourself somewhat afriad of fireworks and storms? They take their cues from us. my sister hated storms and passed that on to our golden, who would hide in the tub. They dont upset me, and so have not upset any of our dogs since I moved out.
