1. yes I let them do it. I have a dishwasher, the temperature cleaning the plates is way over germ sustainability....
2. I agree with your decision. Ask them to say they saw the dog on a drive-by, and explain to them that you are afraid for your own pets if these people get PO'd....tell them about the little girl too. I have serious concerns about her (from the first time you mentioned her) because it is not normal for a 5 year old child to seek out the attention of neighbor adults.
3. congrats Bailysmom. You did a wonderful thing, and you worked so hard on those pups. They deserve a good home and hopefully will have one soon.
4. Free doesnt need snow...she has discovered tha runners, on hardwood floor, make excellent sliders. She (and Laurel) will run at it full tilt, stop and slide across the dining room til they hit the kitchen. Then they will look at me like "MOM! reset it!"    I want to get an area rug backer for it, cuz I'm constantly putting it back in place, but they have so much fun sliding on it I hate to do that.... :o :o
5. Italy has passed Restrictions or bans on 92 breeds, including pit bulls Italy - has just introduced tough new laws targeting 'potentially aggressive' breeds, but has steered clear of out and out breed specific bans. However, the new laws are flawed, branding breeds such as Border Collies and Corgis as 'dangerous'. Collies? Corgi's? what is WRONG with these people, or rather, their government??????
6. I had to look it up...have you read it? Good Lord about the only dogs that arent on it are the ones no one knows about.....
7. if you want to take the time you can probably go to te differnt countries websites and find out the information. good luck.
8. I agree with HF. Some dogs cant be crated. Free is a claustrophobiac. she destroyed two crates and soiled in both. With her, I put her in a large bathroom with a baby gate, nothing she could destroy, and papers on the other side of the room (Iwork full time) I came home at lunch tolet her out. She was housebroken by 4 months without the stress of the crate, and she knew if she absolutely had to go she could use the papers. I then took them outside with her and set them down in he "spot" and she learned in time. As they get older they can hold it longer as well. If she feels enclosed she will panic and destroy things to get "free" (like if there are groceries blocking the kitchen, or a garbage can blocking the door, things like that)
9.
Thank you all. I feel like crap because my gut said one thing while my mind said another. I followed my mind...which was in denial. I screamed and yelled all the way home from work. I want to be angry I want to hate right now and since there really is no one else to be those things at I'm taking them out on myself...smoking to much, not able to keep food down...not actually taking it out on myself (Honestly I'm not that off :-) ). Thanks again. I needed to hear that I"m not the worst dog owner on the face of the earth. no, you're not. If I had a puppy that seemed slightly feverish, slightly lethargic on one day, I would have said "cold". I would not have rushed him to the vet immediately, I would've waited to see how the next day went. Usually, in these cases. the dog is up and around the next day. When he showed other, worse sympton,s you took him in. You did what 99% of the population would have done. Tammy, please realize that taking him in that first day would not have changed the diagnosis. He had Parvo. Taking him in one or two days sooner would not have changed that in any way. Nor would taking him in one or two days sooner have changed the prognosis for treatment. You did nothing wrong. I know you are suffering for this, and I feel for that, but really, what else could you have done? I beat myslef up over Alex's death. (blastomycosis). I should have seen something sooner. I should have noticed him acting strange. Shoulda, woulda, coulda. He didnt act any different, until it was too late. He didnt act strange in any way. Until it was too late..... My heart and thoughts go out to you. My vet had to beat it into my head that I was not responsible for Alex's death. I'm sure if you talk tio your vet he/she will tell you the same thing. We are here for you. Now if you all can just send many good vibes here for the next two weeks....Mac is only 7 months old and has had two Parvo vaccines but still I can't help but be scared!
10. I am VERY sorry to hear that Tammy. Dont beat yourself up, a warm, tired dog could be just that. They can be lethargic just from having a cold....this isnt something "bad" you did, it was a situation you couldnt have corrected. Even if you had taken Smudgie in that day, the diagnosis would have been the same. warm thoughts and **hugs** to you...
11. there are websites that sell all sorts of dog accesories for the cold. coats, boots, etc. most of them can also be found at petstores. Mine are both big, but Laurel's feet get cold easily so I have boots for her. Freecouldnt care less, she has the double thick lab coat, completely waterproof....
12. HF cheer up. You did EXACTLY what needed to be done. in a pack situation, thats exactly what the Alpha female would have done with an out of control member. Put her in her place, and if she then starts to obey, loosen up a bit and be cordial. Without realiaing it, you did exactly the right thing. Pulled a few rungs out her ladder and made her understand that YOU are in control, and she must obey. Good for you!! Now that the rules have been laid down and she understands them again, I think she will slide right back into place and be a good dog again. She just got a bit above herself at your friends. She got lifted out of her "place" there, and has now learned her place again with you. Good job!!
13. Kat, is it the same morphine they use here to kill pain? or something different?
14. sounds like Peaches needs to be demoted a little bit. She apparently got treated like top dog at your friends house, now needs to come back to reality at your house. Hope it all works out for you and Peaches and the rest of the gang....
15. Free was also very mouthy as a pup, and I have used Seij's remedy with success. A mother dog will take a pups lips in her teeth and hold them slightly to stop mouthing. For a human, Seij's remedy works better. Your pup was seperated from mom too early, and so now you have to teach him bite inhibition. This process will not hurt hin, just dont press real hard.
16. this is a LONG shot, I know, but maybe gettng better? The chicken and tuna seem to be staying down, he is also munching his dry food a little. (I still put it out) and being fed by himself in the bathroom seems to be helping some....he is not stressed over food, and is eating alot. Ford was stealing his food, and he's too old to defend it effectively...way out of line for Pushy, who was always King of the Hill....but now he has an eating place all his own, and is chowing down...I am SOOO hoping he'll hang on a little longer now...things are looking up, kinda. I know he's old, and his time is coming, but he is just too healthy to go yet. Or maybe its just me, not wanting to let go yet. He is a special and uncharacteristic c@t. Being such, I have always had a special place in my heart for him. No one really loved him before me, and I was willing to accept his "non-lovingness"...he is now repaying it back in full. GO PUSHYC@AT!!!!
17. I agree.Rowie needs to make the final decision. it is imperative that they get along. outside of the shelter all the dogs will act differently than they do in the shelter, but Rowie will know right away if they get along or not. Best of luck to you!
18. imagine being a woman in the Elizabethan times and having to wear one of those EVERY DAY as a matter of proper dress and fashion.... arrggghhhh...not me.....
19. Yup. It's ALL in the eyes...."*sigh*...I dont know WHY I have to wear this stupid thing, but if you say so....."
20. could very well be.he IS a manipulator....
21. tapeworms can explain her lack of weight gain. They hang out in the body and absorb the nutrients the body needs. It's always a joke to say that a skinny kid has a tapeworm. People CAN get them, but not under those circumstances. I'd have to look it up, but I believe they enter through a cut or somesuch, and make themselves right at home...
22. LOL - looks mighty young for his age.... sticky 3 key I guess...
23. I feel the same way about bunnies and chicks at Easter. Most of the shelters try to NOT adopt during Christmas, and Halloween. The really weird cultish people always try to get the black or black mix cats at Halloween....
24. thank you all, very much. He is being very spoiled, and of course, being Pushy, taking advantage of it (not too old to realize he has me wrapped around his paws now is he? lol) He gets Tuna and baked chicken three times a day (the catfood just doesnt cut it) and lots of hugs, and now has taken to sitting on the bed with me to watch TV, something he never did before unless I was brushing him> I think he knows, too, and feels sorry for ME.....He mews and jumps up, and rubs on me, and purs. He was never a very affectionate c@t, his whole life. Now he has become one. He sees me look at him and cry, and he mews and asks to be picked up. I think he's comforting ME.... strange how these things work out....
25. depends on the dog. coffee can throw some drug dogs off, because the scent is overwhelming. When coffee comes into play they use scenthounds, like Laurel, and sometimes even bloodhounds to do the searches. Their noses are even more sensitive than the average dogs. Beagles are especially good at it.
