I have to agree with the others. Zowie needs one-on-one time with you now, and some refresher obedience training. She's feeling abandoned with Justin gone, and now theres a new dog. She may be thinking the other dog has something to do with losing daddy. They dont think like we do, they cant reason out that daddy will come back eventually. So I'd say she's stressed. Do you have anything of Justins that isnt washed? the human smell will help. She may be trying to one-up you in the dominance dept too, which is where the re-training comes in. Also, if antsy you could try Rescue Remedy. It does have some good calming affects, but exercise, one-on-one attention and retraining is probably your best bet. Best of luck to all of you. :)

kinda off topic, but my Golden used to eat ROCKS, literally chew them up and swallow them. It was determined by the vet he had a mineral deficiency. They put him on vitamins and he stopped. Maybe a diet deficiency? :o

maybe a brindle mixed with Lab or Newfie...I believe Newfies have webbed feet, but Newfiemom would know better...

the biopsy is just a test. they wont remove anything until the results come back, so she may be able to go home right away. Most vets dont have labs on site to run the biopsy tests, they send them out to a regular lab... thoughts and prayers that she's ok..
LOL! Interesting... When I was in Southern IL on vacation I was looking in the paper in the puppies for sale section (basically cuz I'm nosey and I like to become enraged by all the byb's in there, it's a sick habit of mine... ). Anyway, I saw an add for Corgi pups, it said "All pups wormed and shot." So, you shoot the dogs before selling them?!
       I will NOT eat at the computer.... I will NOT eat at the computer.... :o :o :o I will NOT eat at the computer...

well first off, welcome to Dogo. :D next, food is often a debated issue here. My bottom line is feed the best you can afford. Others here will have opinions and suggestions as well. second...stay here with us. GSD's (German Shepherd Dogs), even mixes, can sometimes be a handful. This is a working dog, needs exercise, and DISCIPLINE. Your dog has guarding breed tendencies, you need to have a strong alpha presence and not let him/her get away with alot. Formal training is a good idea, at the very least basic obedience. This dog will be much happier in an environment where it has known rules, and a strong presence amongst his people. They are excellent dogs, but if not trained they can try to take over. Stubborn often applies here...Also, do not leave your kids alone with the dog. Besides the fact that they are very young and could be bowled over, its never a good idea to leave a large dog with small children. An adult should always be there. The dog may be sweet as pie, but kids tend to prod, pull, tug and annoy dogs. Lots of exercise, lots of training, lots of positive reinforcement for everything, and you'll have a dog you can truly treasure. Come here if you need help. Theres a TON of experience here with all kinds of dogs and issues. again, welcome aboard. I look forward to heating about your new family member. :D :D

thank you! I havent tried the pellitol yet. but I'll ask the vet about this as well. thanks again.

tons of questions, I'm sorry. Do I put the sugar in dry> or wet? do I leave it in there for ahwile and then rinse it out with Iodine? The Blue Power Treatment is helping. but its not going away.... Please ask the vet. I dont want to hurt her in any way...I just want her to be healthy.... thank you SO much. I feel so stupid... :o :o

ROFL!! WHAT is it with cheese? I have NEVER met a dog who wouldnt jump though hoops of fire for cheese. Yet its not something they would ever come across in the wild... If I eat cheese (and i do alot, its my favorite food) I have DOGS slobbering on me to get some.....CATS jumping in my lap and raiding my plate...
My best friend had a kitten for several months thinking it was a girl, until I was playing with "her" and had her on her back, tummy exposed when I said "Um, April, are you sure this kitten is a girl?" "Yeah" "So, what is she doing with TESTICLES?!" That was heelarious!
ROFL!!!!! yea, thats pretty much the same thing. I dont pick them up and turn them over, most of them dont like that and why push it? If I had to, for a medical or injury reason or whatever, I would. But most animals dont like to be "placed" on their backs against their will. It's a very submissive position and makes them somewhat uncomfortable. So I'm sitting here, typing and he crawls in my lap. I pet him. he purrs (like a diesel engine) and then rolls over and exposes his belly. He hast done that in at least a month and a half. I see "boy parts". I think he needs to be snipped soon. he is looking for "that" kind of attention. I crack up, and tell Kyle. He is flabbergasted. He didnt realize either. We just assumed (always a bad thing) and never tried todetermine otherwise. So we'reall laughing about it now. I told Kyle I now accept his name. I didnt care for it for a girl....

thank you Cassie! how do you flush it? Pour iodine in and what? Rinse it out with something? I've never flushed her ears. the vet did, but I didnt see it...how many treatments does she need?
Of course, Siamese don't actually meow usually, or mine never have. Cry and scream, but never meow
I have to laugh at that. My two cats with siamese in them dont really meow, or mew. they YOWL....PAY ATTENTION TO ME NOW!! seems to be the directive.... I never checked Ford. I had this same issue with Isis, because I never really looked. sex doesnt matter to me, I guess thats why. I would not choose a pet because of that. the other two cats took up 27 years of my life, so I guess I'm not used to anything but the Siamese YOWL....

well, Ford's name is now ok She's a HE....5 months, and testicles starting to show, although small. I never really looked, but he's laying on his back in my lap....although I have been calling him "mew".....he has this little tiny squeaky "mew", not a meow. At 5 months still sounds like a baby kitten when he mews.....yet purrs like diesel engine....will he ever meow? he's a grey/orange tabby mix. I never had one of those before. My last two cats were real vocalists, but both have/had Siamese in them... well, at least the "snip" will be cheaper than the spay...

maybe PM Horsefeathers? She's a professional groomer... best of luck!!

hee hee! she SET HIM UP! Figuring he had already been shown the picture, she rearranged it. And him, not being the sharpest tool in the shed, memorized the position of the Pit instead of the dog itself ROFL!!! the scary part is that this guy has sway. I hope ALOT of people watched that interview, and sees him as the charlatan he is... :evilbat: :evilbat: :evilbat:

Nae-Nae, mine do it all the time. Free steals Laurels bones, she steals them back. They set ME up to allow this thievery. Let them work it out. Its a pack society thing. One will dominate the other. YOU are pack leader, you can decide who gets what, whether they like it or not. If it becomes a problem, YOU intervene. Otherwise, let them work it out amongst themselves.. You are Pack Leader. retain that position, and the squabbling will not STOP, but decease.

Australia's most dumped, aggressive & barkiest dog breed
courtnek replied to Aroura's topic in Aggression
he also favors shoo-doodle mixes (I made that name up - it sorta covers all of them) and for a while was pushing them on his show.
Two other breeds, the Finnish Spitz and the Foxhound also had extremely high dumpage rates. We left them off our most-dumped list due to their very low overall numbers (4 and 11 respectively) which render the statistics questionable. Nonetheless, these breeds remain suspect.
this made me sad, as well as the bit about basset hounds being too noisy. Foxhounds and Bassets are HOUNDS. If people did their research, they would realize that they dont bark, they BAY, and its an annoying ear- splitting sound. Laurels bay will drive you up the wall sometimes. The command to shut up (or be silent, or whatever) seems to have no effect. They get "whiff" of something, and they are going to alert you to it. same with Bassetts. I have found the way to stop it is to pretend to investigate. After all, the bay is only the dogs way of "calling you"...."I found it! Look! Look! I found it!!" It's not an alert so much, like a bark, but a request to come check out what they've found....I'd bet the people that bought/adopted them never realized how much patience you have to put into a hound....I also bet they never bothered to check. Both are really cute as puppies, of course. -
baby carrots are my dogs favorite "snacks"....but you can add them to meals as well, either cooked or raw. avoid onions as much as possible. I feed mine a mixture of things. Dry kibble, small quantity of canned (just enough to moiston the food and add a little fat to their diets) and leftovers from dinner, in the form of cooked meat, rice (they love rice) and some veggies, like carrots, pea's. no brocolli for them, it gives them gas. Corn wont hurt them in small quantities, but it doesnt help them either. Both of mine are healthy and have good coats and stools. p.s. when I was a kid and had my golden, every sunday was pancake day. He would get pancakes, scrambled eggs, and bacon. I have no idea whether it was good for him or not, but it never seemed to upset him and he lived to a ripe old age for a dog his size....my dad insisted that if we were going to have "Sunday breakfast", then he should too....

well, I dont know if it will help, but I sent this to Dateline NBC I would like to ask for your help in stopping this abominable place. It's an internet website, a puppymill. The animals are sickly looking, somewhat deformed (like the Boston Terrir puppy who's eyes dont face forward, and is called a "Little Freak" by them, but he's for sale anyway.) There have been attempts to shut them down, all that failed because they borderline the states requirements for keeping animals. Basically, reasonably warm, sheltered and fed. There is also a lawsuit going on because they refuse to return your money if the animal is sickly or dies. their website is www.wizardofclaws.com/specials and here is the URL of the Better Business Bureau who have had complaints from customers of this place. http://www.bbbsoutheastflorida.org/nis/newsearch2.asp?ID=1&strBCode=06330000&ComID=0633000030000976 Can you help? We want to get the word out to the public to avoid this place, and not buy their animals. Thank you. Katy Courtney Illinois my email is courtnek@wideopenwest.com please respond if possible.

I wish they would do that here. I think in any case like this, or where a dog bites, before declaring it a Pit they should all have to take that online test some of us took. especially the media. They use the same kind of dog identification at some police depts here as well. We have a seperate AC tied to the police, and they are better trained, but none of them could be called experts in dog identification.

New Letter Grading Law- What do you think?
courtnek replied to StarFox's topic in Everything about dogs
on the whole I think its a good idea, but one thing concerns me....what about shelters? They may be very good to the animals, take good care of them and keep them clean, feed them and play with them..but what if the facility is run down, stained in places, etc. Our shelter here is in an old building, over 100 years old, and with that goes all the things that happen to old buildings....it's clean, but does have stained walls and floors, bad tile in some places, the windows are old wooden ones with weights inside to balance the window when you open it, so not pretty and not exactly efficient - they cover them with blow-dry plastic in the winter to keep the cold out. things like that....and they are very low income, relying on donations and adoption fees to get by. This could hurt them, because they certainly couldnt afford to upgrade that building...aside from the welfare of the animals, what elses are they looking for?
