Dog attacks on the O'Reilly factor show 8:00EST tonight
drjeffrock replied to gooeydog's topic in Everything about dogs
O'Reilly kept interrupting both women as they were trying to make thier points. Ugh, not a good interview at all in my opinion.
O'Reilly interrupting a guest? Shock, gasp, the horror. Say it aint so! LOL! I missed it, sounds like I did not miss much. I have met Linda Blair before, she is always at adoption festivals I go to with an Akita rescue org. -
Sean Puffy Combs... P Diddy has a Rottie... Here's the picture..
Will Smith and Jada Pinkett also have Rotties, 3 of them I believe. I met the dogs at Cesar's (my trainer) warehouse.

Hey guys, Just curious as to what "celebrities" own the same breed dog as you. I will let someone else answer for APBTs. Famous people who own Akitas include: Helen Keller, and Sarah Michelle Geller. FYI, Helen Keller also had a pit :) I am sure there are more celebs, I will check and add them as I find them

Kira- Not a chance. She will let me and Christine cuddle with her, but only for a short time. I think she gets really hot easily with that undercoat and doesnt like to be smothered. She def. will not cuddle with strangers. Dex is a total love bug. He LOVES cuddling with people, pillows, and Kira. People especially, cause they are warm.

does any one know anything about...........
I have a chihuahua and mine is great with kids...not all chihuahuas like kids....also, mine is not yappy and is really friendly to everyone. Mine weighs around 9 pounds. You have to be careful with chihuahuas because they can tend to not like kids and they can be nippy....
My bro's teacup chi does not like kids at all. He has tried to socialize her around kids w/ no luck (obviously no kid was in danger of being bitten.) Other that kids, she is the sweetest thing ever. Here's a pic of her after she broke a leg from jumping off the bed. I have noticed some chi's have knee problems. I could be wrong, but I do believe the breed as a whole is rather susceptible to knee injuries. -
Dexter does that too. I kind of think it's a "love touch." Just trying to have physical contact. Dexter also wil creep up on the couch next to me and lay a paw on my thigh. Some hardcore people think its a sign of dominance, I disagree though. It really depends on the circumstance. Sometimes physical touch is a dominant behavior, such as if you are sitting down and your dog comes over to you and sits on your foot.

Um, I shoved a pea up my nose when I was young, but I guess that doesnt count as eating something now does it? Oh, here's a good one: When I was a toddler, I was with my family at a friends house. I guess I found their dog treats, and started to eat one. I am not sure what it was, prolly a Milkbone. My mom thought it was hilarious, so she called everyone over and gave me another so they could have a good laugh. LOL, my dad did not find the humor in it, and took it away from me. As you can see, I have had food on the brain from a very early age.

OMG, Dysons are the best, how dare you say they suck?!?!?!? Just kidding. I do have a Dyson, though. I got mine for less than 1/2 retail price. In my honest opinion, the Dyson is a fairly good vacuum cleaner, but not worth its retail price. Surprisingly enough, I have had good success with the attachment chingaderra thingy getting pet hair off my couch. This is the area where my other vacuums have failed me in the past. Overall, I give my Dyson an 8 out of 10.

That is awesome! Kira is similar. Before we got Dex, she was kind of aloof, lazy, and had seperation issues. Now, she is always goofing around on her back, inviting Dex to come rough-house with her.

DOG FIGHTING IS OK.......AT LEAST THATS WHAT I GOT FROM IT!
Because I made some GREAT points
Yes you did K, a gold star for you! I guess if it helps people realize that breaking sticks are not just for dog fighters then its ok. -
Denver Pit bull round up begins
drjeffrock replied to AllAmericanPUP's topic in Amstaffs & Pit Bulls
This just breaks my heart. I registered Dex with the city as a terrier mix in case BSL hits my area. The only way they would know he's a pit is if an animal control officer saw me walking him, or if someone dropped a dime on me. -

I can't believe how easy it is having 3 dogs!
drjeffrock replied to JackieMaya's topic in Everything about dogs
Getting a third dog has not crossed my mind at all. There will def. be none of that. :shocked!: -
Hey TDG! Sorry, I just got your PM from ages ago. LOL, I guess a window does not pop up for me when I have a new PM. So, sorry I did not reply earlier. I will check out your links in a few, when I have a chance. Do you ever go to Huntington dog beach? I bring the kiddies there every once in awhile. Having a dog beach closer to me would be great, I hope this works out.

Fun question to the multiple-dog families
drjeffrock replied to JackieMaya's topic in Everything about dogs
Good thread. This can segway into my story of the very first night we brought Dexter home. When we got back home from the vet, Kira was trying to block the doorway to not let Dexter in. Saying she was jealous would be an understatement. Anyhow Kira is not thrilled about Dex being in the picture, but she wont attack him cause he is a puppy. So, night-time comes, and Kira takes her normal sleeping position next to Christine on the floor. Dex decided his new sleeping area is Christine's walk in closet. Kira is so upset about us adding another member to the pack that she starts making noises with her throat, kind of like she is choking. Christine and I both knew that it was all a farce, that nothing was wrong with her. So, Kira is "pretend choking" on the floor, and two minutes later, Dexter starts making the same noises! He totally was copying his big sister LMFAO! It was prolly the cutest thing I had ever seen. My dogs have taught each other many things, but the thing I think is the most important is that Dex taught Kira how to have fun in life. Before Dex, Kira was a bit nervous and had separation anxiety. Sometimes she would freak out and rip off the metal door frame straight off the wall when Christine and I would leave. Also, she did not have any doggie friends. Honestly, it did not matter if another dog submitted to her, she was still going to go after them. So, Dexter taught Kira how to play and goof around. Christine's parents could not believe the videos we sent them with Kira on her back, pushing Dex away with her paws and nipping his heels, with a big smile on her face. It was really interesting to watch Kira "learn" to play with another dog. It was def. a process, sometimes she would get a little too excited and Dex would yelp, Kira would come over to me with her eyes folded back, looking sorry for what she had done. Hopefully one day Kira can teach Dex that he only needs to bark when there is a serious threat, but I dont think thats going to happen. -
Please, whatever you do, do not feed the trolls. :cool2:
I'm wondering if perhaps you are making too big a deal of it for the dog to be comfortable. I mean, he may just be wondering WHY the car is such a big deal. If it were mine, I'd probably just try being really matter of fact about it for just a bit. Still perky and cheerful, it's still a good thing (a ride), but maybe drop the pleading, cajoling and negotiating. Just load him up and off you go without any drama or antics about it. If possible, get him on a routine. Once a day, whatever time is convenient for you on a daily basis, load him into the car and take a ride around the block or where ever. I'd work it into part of his daily routine, just one of those things that "happens" every day. He may become more comfortable with it if there isn't so much drama attached to it and if it becomes part of a routine. Just something to try. If it doesn't help, it can't hurt.
Excellent advice HF. You took the words right out of my mouth. When uit comes to training, my advice is less is more. Joe, just take your pup for car rides as though they were nothing out of the ordinary. No treats, and little if any praise. If you are praising, cajoling, or giving treats, you might just be re-inforcing that the car ride is something bad, something special, etc. It sounds like he is car sick. Not a big deal though, many pups get car sick. When my Akita was a puppy, it was pretty much guaranteed that she would puke in the car, whether it was for 2 blocks or 50 miles. She outgrew it at around 1 year old. With time your dog will change, and before you know it he will be leaping into the car begging to go someplace. Also, I would not medicate a puppy for this. He will outgrow it, give him some time.

Sounds like snake oil to me.

Well, if they plan on using the dog given to you as a stud, I should hope that the dog in question would be shown. I know breeders have different contracts depending on whether the pup is show quality, or pet-quality. Ex: contract will stipulate that the pet puppy must be spay/neutered. There also can be issues of co-ownership and a million other things. Ask the breeder these questions. I mean, I dont think a breeder would just give you a pup and expect you to start showing the dog without talking about it at length before hand. Good luck!

I use Nature's Miracle first for pee. For actual stains, I usually just mix some hot water and liquid laundry dergent. A nice strong brush and some elbow grease gets my stains out.

Congratulations! Sounds like you have a good plan, and nice parents. Good luck in grooming school and keep us posted on your progress.
