So, so sorry to hear about this. I hope your son is ok. As hard as it is to say, my advice is to put the dog to sleep. Passing on a dog with aggression issues to someone else is not right. Sounds like a tough situation, we wish you the best and are here for you.

Hehehehe, finally the Los Angeles leash-law enforced!
man, how old are you? I havent heard the term "fuzz" since I was in high school, and that was decades ago.... great story!!
LOL, 27 years old. I guess its just some of my old man rubbing off on me. Plus, I try to change it up. Who wants to read a story using the same words over and over again?  -
So, I have this one neighbor who is a total tool. I have never seen his dog on-leash, not a single time. He never picks up after his dog too. The only reason I dont pick up after his dog and fling it into his yard or front porch is cause he lives in an apartment. There have been a couple instances where his dog narrowly avoided getting trounced by Dex for sneaking up on us. The first time it happened, I asked him nicely to please pick up after his dog, and to keep his dog on-leash. He just smiled at me like the jackoff he his and never changed. Now, it has gotten to the point where I glare at him and give him the "Your number one" salute. The only reason I cant go up to him and give him a piece of my mind is that I always have one of my dogs with me, and I am not going to walk towards an off-leash dog with either of my dogs. So, yesterday I was outside walking Dex, enjoying a cigarette and a cop rolls up alongside me. The cop started asking me questions, cause he heard from a fellow copper that there was "a cool dude in the neighborhood" who had a pit and an Akita. I told him that was me and we started chit-chatting. He has a couple APBTs as well, and we just kind of talked dogs for a few minutes. I was telling him how it irritates me that I have to constantly be on the look out for off-leash dogs and it drives me crazy that people dont pick up their dog poop. He got agitated at the thought as well. He has a house in the valley, and says that he always wakes up to find a fresh pile of poo on his lawn. As we are grumbling about irresponsible, lazy people... the hesher with the always off-leash dog walks out of his apartment. I told the fuzz "Look, thats the one guy I was telling you about!!!" We watched from a distance as numbnutz lets his dog pee and poo, off-leash of course. The policeman contacted animal control, and they wrote the tool a ticket for not picking up after his dog, as well as being off-leash. I believe the first offense for off-leash is $25, dont know about the poop fine. Hopefully this smacktard learns his lesson! I usually am not a snitch, but this drives me crazy.
:D Are the blue ones more rare?
People breeding them certainly think so, and advertise them as such.

Feel better Kes. Some white rice always does the trick for my dogs. I have used pumpkin in the past, but I prefer just giving 'em some white rice.

I am so stupid. Two days ago, I was walking Kira and she stopped halfway up the block staring at a car, just trying to stare into it. It took me a minute to realize it was the same exact car that Christine has. LOL, shows how perceptive I am. Dexter is a sandwich licker, but neither of my dogs countersurf.

This is a common ebay scam. Here is how it usually goes: Buyer from Nigeria buys something expensive from you. They send you cashiers check for maybe triple the amount of the item. They then send you an email saying "Sorry I realized I overpaid alot, and I need to get refunded for the amount I overpaid immediately. I have a dying _______ (insert whoever here) and I need to pay for medical bills. They are basically hoping that you refund the difference before your bank realizes its a phony check. Word to the wise: Always wait 10 days before shipping something paid for with a cashiers check or money order. Or, if its a shifty country like Nigeria (not saying the people there are shifty, just the ones who use ebay) make them wire you money via Western Union.

Dr Phil is a total dipsh*t. Any problem someone is having gets his typical reply "Son, you need to pick yourself up by the boot straps, blah, blah, blah." I would rather have my eyes gouged out than watch anything or any show involving him.
-
Excellent reply Kat. Follow Kat's advice and the problem will be cured. Kira is a finicky eater too. She knows if she doesnt eat her food when I give it to her, it will be taken away and she will have to wait till that night (or the next morning.)

Thanks Izzy, I will check it out in a few minutes when I have some free time! JM, I dont think your translator is that far off, Kira enjoys hanging out in front of the fridge in hopes of catching a quick snack, lol.
Eww, I am gald everything came out ok, literaly. My dog ate his harness once. p*** me off because it was an expensive one and he had it on when he ate it. He didnt swallow all of it so I pieced it back together to make suer it was all there. The things we have to deal with!
Well we certainly arent the only ones. I have known a few other pits that have eaten leashes, harnesses, etc. It must be those HUGE, KILLER LOCKING jaws of theirs.
Holy Crap Jeff!!! :o :o I have a morbid imagination....did the leash have a silver fastener on the end, or was it one of the all cloth ones? What color was it (before it went in...ewww)? :o
LOL! The leash was originally black and nylon. He pooped the handle end out, and I wouldnt say it was black anymore, more of a yellowish poopy color. He threw up the end with the metal fastener.

I have an interesting poop story. One day I am walking Dex, and he poops. I see him start flailing around so I figure he's got a dingle-berry hanging on for dear life. No big deal, it happens sometimes, he likes to eat tennis ball fuzz. So, I have a plastic bag in my hand, and I figured I would just grap the dingleberry with the bag. I wasnt paying much attention to his arse, for whatever reason. I go to grab the hanging turd, which appeared very large, and PROCEED TO PULL AROUND 2 FEET OF AN EATEN LEASH FROM HIS ASS!!!!!!! When I initally grabbed what I thought was a turd, I pulled and it just kept coming. I was absolutely mortified. Almost 2 weeks earlier, I had taken Dex to the vet for an ear infection. After the visit, I put him back in the car b4 I paid, as I dont want him harrasing sick/hurt dogs in the waiting room. After we got home, I was looking for his leash in the car. Couldnt find it, so I called the vet and asked them if I left it there. They said no, I just figured it fell out of the car when Christine and I were getting in. He also ended up puking the other 2 feet of leash half an hour after the pooping of the leash incident. Can you imagine if someone had a camera??? It would have made a hilarious pic, me "walking" him from the other end.     Seriously though, I am so glad he has a stomach of steel. I dont imagine many dogs would be ok after eating a 4 foot leash and having it sit in their tummy for 11 days.

Sometimes get a little squishy poop with Innova, but it's easy to overfeed that stuff. Generally they do pretty well on it though..
Doberfanatic, I find that Maisy has squishy poo with EVO as well......is there anything you do to counteract that ?? She is also the only one of my 3 to have recurrent anal gland issues. Someone told me if I added Pumpkin to the food it would be adding a filler that would take away from the *RAW* idea the food is based on.....
Deb, you could add some psyllium to your dogs diet.

I hate greenies. I gave one to Kira, she practically swallowed it whole. She barfed it up a couple hours later. Getting out green-tinted throw up off your carpeting is no fun.

Hey cheeky! Nice of you to post, it's been a while. 8)

Ok, so all this talk of long-haired Mastiff, etc. has be wanting to know about more breeds that have a recessive gene for long-coats or what have you. I have been around lots of long-coat Akitas, referred to as woolies :) They are adorable, and actually are less stubborn that their regular-'ol double-coated siblings. It has been noted that they also tend to be less dog-aggressive. Here are a couple pics, in case you have not seen any before. So, post up and enlighten me. Here is Ursa aka the Wonderpup. Ursa has a older brother named Henry who is a rescue pit that was severly abused.
Just mu $.02. Or, okay, $.04. "A genetic mess" is not going to win a CH. You would never, I hope, breed a dog that is a "genetic mess" and therefore should not be showing it, either. .
Agreed that a dog that is a "genetic mess" should not be shown, but it def. happens. I am not talking about dogs with issues that are obvious to the naked eye. I am talking about dogs coming from lines known to have VKH, among other things. I could not believe the judge had even given this dog a second look, let alone awarded it BIS. Then again, this particular judge is known to continually breed dogs that are manbiters.
I am in Los Angeles County, California. The county run shelters here have this policy. Dogs go to the highest bidder. I breed Golden retrievers and Labrador retrievers. As for why, I wont even try to answer that. I know better then to open that can of worms on this board.
I am in Los Angeles as well. I didnt read this entire thread, sorry if I am missing something. Which shelters are you speaking of? I have NEVER seen a shelter have bidding wars for dogs. It's on a first come, first serve basis where I am. Waaa, waaaa, waaaa. I am so tired of hearing people whining about not showing their dogs due to the politics involved. That being said, I have seen plenty of dogs winning shows that should not ever have been shown in the first place. I remember a certain so-called well-established Akita breeder giving a BIS to another Akita breeder who happened to be a great friend of hers. This "breeders" lines were well known as having multiple genetic defects. In fact, the winning dog died within months due to a genetic illness. But, I do think there is something to be said about showing. I like to know that the dog has been poked and prodded by judges without snapping at them under stressful conditions. I agree that just having a CH title doesnt mean much, genetics must be carefully considered as well. Depending on your location, showing dogs can eat away at any profit you might have had. If I were to ever get another Akita from a breeder (which is highly unlikely due to the fact that I do some rescue work and am around fabulous keeters needing homes) I know for sure that the breeders I hold in very high-esteem dont make money of their breedings. Perhaps this is due to the fact that they charge $500 for a pet-quality pup and not $1000+ and chose to spend their time driving around to shows. I dont see a problem with breeders making money provided they are doing all the proper stuff like xrays, checking eyes, doing genetic research, etc. It just seems hard to make a profit when spending a lot of time driving around, paying for hotels and the such.

There's something wrong with Jackie!
drjeffrock replied to JackieMaya's topic in Everything about dogs
Glad to hear Jackie is ok. Just curious, how much does your vet charge to have it done? Mine charges $20, but Christine and I carefully watched him while doing it so we could just do it at home. Squeezing from the outside just doesnt cut it, imo. You have to actually stick your finger in the bum and squeeze both the glands w/ index finger in the bum, and thumb gripping the gland from the outside. When Dex lets them loose, you better run for the hills. Some dogs release them from stess, most just express them after pooping (the liquid you see after the poop.) Ex of stress-related: Dex lets em go when he gets in my car cause he is so excited. Trust me, it sucks when you are about to embark on a cross-country journey, and forget to empty them b4 only to have Dex let 'em loose 5 minutes into the trip. And forget about nuclear weapons, just recreate that smell and I swear it would be the worst form of chemical warfare known, lol. -
I have never had a Cane Corso myself, but I have been around a couple. They are kind of like an Akita in the sense that they are not exactly known to fawn all over strangers or guests in your house. They are natural guard-dogs, need no training for that. I think that they are not dogs for the average Joe pet-owner. Like any other powerful, strong breed socialization at a young age is vital. They sure are beautiful and impressive looking!
