http://forum.dogomania.com/viewtopic.php?t=12751&highlight= Let's hear your explanation for this one RNP. You know these dogs, you mention Cyrus in the other thread along with a pic of him. It's a kennel located in East Nebraska. I am not trying to attack anyone, but some of you guys are too much. Investigators??? I dunno about your neck of the woods, but if this happened to me in L.A. and I called the police to investigate, I would probably get a "Thanks for bringing it to our attention" and thats it. Also, if someone had a grudge against me and was trying to throw some salt in my life, I would no doubt defend myself in full force. I love posting here, and if I was falsely accused of something I would be sure to let you all know. So c'mon RNP, let's hear it. I am not attacking you, I would just like to hear it from you. And for everyone who is going to jump down my throat for not PM'ing him, this is a public forum. If he choses to reply great. If not, thats his choice.

Hey Crested, I use a clicker (or my tongue to make that noise) for a couple different things, but not for the reasons you mentioned. Here is a great link to clicker information and articles: http://www.clickersolutions.com

Cool! I just noticed that my trainer will be an exhibitor there, as will Wendy with Akita Buddies rescue. :B-fly: -
Are Rotweilers really as violent as the media tells us?
PITTIES (pit bulls) ROCK MY FACE OFF! :ylsuper:
:B-fly: Me too! Seriously though, this business of saying "There are no bad dogs, just bad owners" is a half-truth. Its apparent none of you have ever raised a dog with a questionable temperament. YOu would def. be singing a different tune if you had a dog from puppyhood, socialized it and did everything in your power to raise it properly, and it ended up with behavioral issues. I agree that 8 times out of 10 behavioral problems are due to the owner, but dont forget about shmucks breeding dogs that have no business being bred. Socialization is VERY important, but sometimes it cannot overcome genetics. -

Hey TDG, I am going to go with my girlfriend. Perhaps we could meet up there? It would be nice to put a face to someone who has given much good advice on the forum. -
Maybe a Karelian Bear dog? Does he look like this?

Food/possssion agression or a problem with alpha status?
drjeffrock replied to Seijun's topic in Upbringing
Hey Seijun, Have you contacted a trainer yet? When I adopted Dex, he had some issues with aggression and dominance. Here are some of the NILIF training methods I used. First of all, I would keep Dexter on a leash inside at all times. He was not allowed to do ANYTHING without me taking him to do it. If I was taking a shower or making a sandwich I would either put him in his crate or tie him up to a doorknob. Basically when inside he was on his leash, or he was in his crate. This might sound kind of harsh, but you will need to make some BIG changes to the way you are handling your dog. Dont leave any toys, food, bones on the floor. You do not want your dog self-rewarding (meaning he can decide when he gets a treat, plays with a toy, etc.) You want your dog to learn that it is YOU who decides when its play time, time to go on a walk, time for dinner. When dinner time comes, make your dog earn it. This means no more putting her food in bowl and letting her dig in. I would suggest teaching your dog obedience while feeding dinner. You could teach your dog how to hold a down-stay. I did this by putting Dex in a down-stay. I would put a little bit of kibble from my hand while petting him. Then I would get up and leave the room for a few seconds. If Dex got up from his sit-stay as I was leaving the room, my girlfriend would correct Dex with his leash and put him back in his down stay in the original position. Obviously this was a little easier with two people. Also, if I was leaving the room and Dex got up, I will grunt, shake my head no, and ignore him. Inevitably he began to understand what I wanted from my facial gestures. If he got up, I would ignore him until he got back into his down-stay. The second he would go back down, I would smile and give him some more kibble. When I first adopted Dex, he was completely out of control. Now he can hold a down-stay for a good 5-10 minutes when I am in the other room. Do you have a kennel? If so, make your dog sleep in it for the first couple weeks at night of NILIF training. I am kind of on the fence when it comes to letting dogs be on couches, but in your case I would def. not ever let your dog on your couches. What kind of collar do you use on walks? Sounds like your dog could benefit from some training to walk on leash too. Your dog should not be picking things up off the ground. Heck, when I take Dex out and he has to go, I even make him pee on my terms. He is NOT allowed to pull like crazy until he finds his favorite spot. I would not wrestle with your dog either, at all. Also, be aware of subtle forms of domination by your dog. If you are hanging out on the couch watching TV with your dog on-leash next to you, and she tries to sit down on your foot or against your leg, a gentle correction and repositioning of her would def. be in order. If your dog comes up to you to be pet, or wants to play, make her do something before getting a pat on the head, even if its just a sit. Dont just pet her whenever she wants you to. If your dog does not have basic obedience inside, chances are she wont behave outside. Also, if you want your dog to do something like sit and you think she wont do it, dont command her to do it. All this NILIF doesnt mean that you cant play with your, give your dogs treats, and have fun. It just means that you do it when YOU initiate it. Please go see a trainer. They can make up a training plan for you better than any advice over the internet. I have seen NILIF used countless times, and I have seen results in EVERY single case, most of the time within the first couple days. Training your dog will be a lot of work, as its a 24/7 job, but when you see results it will be worth every second and $$$ you spent on training. Good luck! -
Hey odnarb, welcome to the forum. Great post too.
http://www.spayusa.org fill in the request form or call 1-800-248-SPAY
Hey TDG, is that link sponsored by cities/states? I ask because I went to the shelter where I adopted Dex and they have a city-sponsored spay program. Still the price was around $120, and I got some seriously bad vibes from the vet. He was so indignant with me. I called and was asking simple questions about sedation and anaesthesia, telling him my concerns. He basically responded by telling me "I have been doing this procedure for 15 years. I know what I am doing. I am the vet here, not you." :agrue: I told him to suck it easy and have a nice day.
-
Hey kendalyn, Can I ship Kira to you to get spayed??? She was never spayed, and we are going to do it soon. She is 7 years old and weighs around 100 lbs. I only trust 2 vets to do the procedure. Akitas tend to not do well with certain types of anaesthesia, and the prices I got quoted were ranging from $300-380. That price includes all bloodwork, etc.

LOL, it makes you wonder. I wonder how many times I have told Dex to knock it off when it was Kira baiting him. Naughty dogs

Welcome back, and a big congrats to Kodi :D

Food/possssion agression or a problem with alpha status?
drjeffrock replied to Seijun's topic in Upbringing
I would put that dog on a super hardcore NILIF training program. I strongly suggest you see a professional trainer to help you out. If things keep going the way they are headed, you could get seriously hurt. -
Yay, Goo! I know how you feel. Before we got Dexter, Kira totally thought she was Queen of all 4 legged beings. Although my girlfriend tried to socialize her from a young age, she always got into tiffs with other dogs. So, when we got Dexter, she literally had to learn how to play at 6 years old. It was absolutely hilarious watching her learn how to play with another dog. At first she was very confused. He would play bow and bark at her, she would just nip at the air kind of saying "Stay away from me you big psycho." After a while she warmed up to him, and even began to initiate play time with him. Its so funny cause Dex is ALWAYS the one initiating play. Always biting her ankles, running into her full speed etc. When I want some quiet time I will tell them to knock it off. They look at me like I am the biggest party pooper. Then when I am not looking, Kira will nonchalantley walk by him and nip him, trying to bait him into playing again. It is too cute. Their new favorite thing to do is both grab on a rope, and play ring around the rosey. Golly, they will turn round and round and round. It gets me dizzy just staring at them. Haha, Kira is not into his zoomies though. She just sits and watches him run by. Sometimes she will do a drive by and nip at him as he runs by. I am so surprised at how well Kira has adapted to Dexter. She lets the little bugger get away with murder (chewing on her ears, tail, ankles, etc.) She doesnt even get too mad when he jumps up on her. Congrats again!

It is def. a hoax.

Pita was my brother and girlfriends chihuahua. When they split she kept Pita, and my brother kept Bella (the other chi.) My bro just got a phone call from his ex saying that she was carrying Pita in her arms when a big dog attacked Pita and ripped her out of his ex's arms. Rest in peace sweetie-pie. :( She is rememberd by all of us for her gentle, loving soul and that missing tooth that always made her tongue hang out the side of her mouth. Thinking about getting a second dog...
drjeffrock replied to SizzleDog's topic in Everything about dogs
Since when did Dogo turn into a BYB messageboard? Seems like every day or two we get someone asking about where to find a breeder, and 15 replies about trying www.petfinder.com or a local rescue/shelter. The petfinder site is great. Unfortunately you shmucks representing it are not. I dunno about the whole drama deal with you guys, so I cant comment on Fila or sizzle or whoever. -
About Kira... "Is that a bear?!?!?" "Is she on Prozac or something?" (Because she is very mellow with people. She doesnt get all excited about people she doesnt know.) About Dexter "How old is she? How much does she weigh?" (She is a he  ) Heck, the first two weeks we brought Dex home from the shelter, I was calling him a girl.
I have found it very hard to comment on these forums without being critisied about breeding a cross bred, especially when this is my first. But I love my aussie, and I love this breed. And I plan on working hard on helping them to become registered. .
Ok, I dont want to start in with the criticism, we have been down this road a million times. I do have one question though. When you speak of getting your bitch and puppies registered, which club are you speaking of?

Jeff, give both your pooches a big :kiss_2: and tell them that someday the breedism will end.
Done! 8) Those knuckeheads sure loves kisses. :P

I am not too into gossiping, but I think this situation warrants it. It is def. him who posted it up. He posts on a apbt forum and some members matched up the name of a pic off his posts to the name of the file/pic he used in the auction. So sad. I feel so bad for that poor dog. :(

I always hate to jump to conclusions, but there seem to be way too many coincidences for this to just be someone stealing his pics. What's up RNP? Say it aint so man.
