Could this be a hacker email? Anyone else get this?
kendalyn replied to KP's topic in Everything about dogs
Nope, I didn't get it. But if you're unsure, just leave it alone. -
Here is a pretty basic one: http://animalcontrol.co.la.ca.us/html/pages/adoptions/Puptest.htm Here's another one that is more in depth: http://www.golden-retriever.com/puppy_aptitude_test.htm I don't know how valid these tests are. If this is for a paper or something, you should probably find a test that more scientific and has been peer reviewed. Plus, these 2 are pretty short. I've seen entire books that contain different tests to give a dog. Maybe they need to be shorter for a puppy though... Anyway, Good luck :-)

Gladis is in the lead!

Good for Laurel! I'll bet it felt really good to go for a nice sprint around the yard :-) I know Buck was also enjoying the warm weather today! Yay for Spring!

I'm pretty sure their temperature drops before they are about to go into labor. You might want to check for milk production too. That happens close to birth.

Yes he is a DVM. He's called an "Animal Behaviorist" on the show, but I went to his website and it says he is a vet. He has an animal behavior business. Here's some information on him: http://www.vet.utk.edu/savma/tripp.html

I woke up this morning and turned on that "Petsburgh USA" show on Animal Planet while I was getting ready. I don't know if you guys have ever seen it but at the end of the show they have a Q and A time with a vet named Dr. Rolan Tripp. Somebody asked him about when she can breed her dog and he gave her the WORST ADVICE!! :x He told her it's ok to breed anytime after 6 or 7 months!! I'll admit I don't know a whole lot about breeding but I do know that that is super young! He did say that she should have the dog's health and temperment checked but that was really all he said in terms of what to do before breeding. It's annoying to see someone give bad information to the public. Especially someone who is supposed to be respected in their field.

I filed a report against Petland today...pictures included

Wow, that's really sad. I hope animal control takes those dogs away and keeps them from getting anymore. Good job for helping! -
I hate it when people make fun of poodles. Especially Standard Poodles! Why do people think they are sissy dogs!? It's really annoying. They're very athletic and just as fun and cool as any other breed. I just hate that sissy dog stigma. Sometimes it seems like people only like poodles when they're mixed with something else.

It depends on the dog. When prey drive kicks in, it doesn't matter that the dog has never shown aggression to the cat before. It's an instinct. Some dogs have a high prey drive, some don't.

I've been shocked by those collars and it's not that bad. I highly doubt they could cause any permanant damage. I'd say the strength is equal to a few static electricity shocks. Not enough to cause a seizure unless maybe the dog was already prone to them or something. My guess is they use the shock collar to enforce a heel command. If the dog moves a certain distance from their side they use the shock. I wouldn't want to go about training a dog this way. This is just how I guess someone would do it.

I would have all the pups spayed and neutered BEFORE you give them to anybody. Include the cost of spay and neuter in the price for the puppies. This is really the only way to make sure that the puppies get fixed. Plus, it'll drive the price of the puppies up which will make sure that only someone that really wants one will buy one.
There will always be a few bad apples in any group that ruin things for the rest, not much anyone can do about it.
This is very true :( If it weren't for the bad apples, pit bulls wouldn't have a bad reputation to begin with. I remember a while ago going to a nature preserve only to find it had been closed because of people littering and doing illegal activities. The city didn't have the money to police it so they closed it altogether. Somebody spray painted a sign that said, "So we all pay". I thought that summed up my feelings pretty well.
-
Her follow up article was just as distrubing as the first one. I'm glad people wrote her letters, but they have no business making personal assaults and using nasty, angry language to get their point across. All it does is make the pitbull community seem as dangerous and stupid as she thinks their dogs are. What if people had calmly, rationally and politely disputed the points in her article? She might have been able to step back and think about the wisdom of others words, instead of immediately being on the defensive. This is a woman whose feelings about people who own "dangerous dogs" have just been confirmed and I think it's really a shame.
Bear in mind what you feel as a shock wiill be greatly magnified to what your dog feels. Dogs perception of sensation is so much greater than ours is
I'm curious about where you learned this. I'm not saying it's not true, I'd just like to read about it. I would kind of think it'd be the other way around.

This is a load of CRAP!!
"The best thing about buying a mix is that hereditary problems are gone. Cocker's have bad ears, Shihtzu's have bad skin, when you mix them with a Poodle - NO MORE PROBLEMS! "
I don't understand what this means really... Who buys a cockapoo as a guard dog?
I have seen them grow up. They are SWEET, lovable, not yappy at all, and so anxious to please. GREAT GUARD DOGS!
Keep him leashed to you?
They could have been suffering from nervousness before they went in or disappointment afterwards if they didn't win.
That is no excuse for being mean and rude to well meaning people. Spectators are part of showing and if people can't handle that then they should stop doing it.
-
shoot! I totally forgot about it! I wanted to go :( I'm not surprised that the people were mean to you. I've been to a few shows before and it was a similar situation. It's too bad though.

Could you have each kid take a dog to the car and leave one for yourself? (I don't know how old your kids are though...) That does sound like you looked pretty funny!
-
I would think that someone so experienced with animals would be able to prevent that from happening :-? Good luck finding good homes for your puppies
-
Some people say it makes them less likely to get an ear infection, but I think that is mostly a cop out to make it sound like a legitimite medical procedure. It's pretty much an aesthetics only procedure.

OH NO! I guess Fifty wanted to help get you out of having to do house cleaning...

It sounds like you think this aggression has something to do with you being pregnant? (congrats by the way!) I'm not an expert but I wouldn't be surprised if this is quite possible. If it is the case than maybe the aggression will stop after you give birth? (I have no idea, I'm just spitballing here...)
I have to crate them and never let one see the other while I am around.
Are they ok around each other when you are gone?
Luka may not receive the same level of care as if you were there, but sometimes you have to weigh the evils and this may be the lesser of them
Good point. It won't kill Luka to get a little less exercise than normal while you are gone. It would be worth it for me to know that my dog was in his home with less exercise than at a kennel with maybe more exercise. You can make it up to him when you get back! I looked at a few boarding kennels once and they charged an extra 10 bucks a day for 10 minutes of one on one play time. That seems ridiculous to me.
