1. I had to post some pictures from the assistancedog.com website. They are so cute! 2. There is a school called the Assistance Dog Institute. It offers an Associate of Science degree program if you want to get a degree in training and placing service dogs. Entry into the program requires 24 hours of transferable gen ed credits from another college with a grade C or better. There are requirements for what the transferrable Gen Ed classes are. The main website is http://www.assistancedog.org The link to the degree program page is: http://www.assistancedog.org/college/degree_programs.html It might be something to look into :-) I think it is in California
3. wow, I didn't know that! Thanks :-)
4. google has a really nice translator. I've never used babelfish, but google's works very well. At least it did when I needed to e-mail someone in Germany. They replied and I understood pretty much everything they said.
5. Sounds like a great day! :D
6. Buck's hackles go up a lot. For him it seems to mean that he's keyed up about something, but not necessarily upset. A lot of people think he's going to attack or he's being agressive, but he's just excited.
7. Yeah, that's ridiculous! :x They would have no idea if their dog is being attacked and injured. Or if it is being a complete nuisance to other people. Supervision should be required in those places.
8.
Why, it's a pittie of course.
Dumb question! Something about his face looked like maybe he wasn't a pittie :-)
9. sorry, the above post was me! I forgot to log in!
10. I have a special command for Buck when we are walking by the side of a road. Roads with only a shoulder to walk on make me nervous because my aunt was killed walking on one when she got hit by a car (drunk driver but it still makes me nervous) When a car is coming toward us or behind us I take a step away from the road and tell Buck "wait". Buck knows that this means he is to sit next to me on the side away from the road until the car has passed us. Maybe you could have Hailey sit away from the road when you see a car. It wouldn't have to be permanent, just until she learns to stop trying to chase the cars. I'm not sure if this would work or not, but it's the only thing I could think of. Good luck!
11. I don't think it's fair to say that a 15 year old shouldn't have a dog and do most of the work finding and picking it out. It sounds to me like he was supervised. It's a good learning experience. And we don't know Atom. There are some 15 year olds that could easily handle the responsibility of a dog and there are some I wouldn't let watch a goldfish for the weekend. As long as his parents are willing to help him out financially and make sure he's doing everything that he's supposed to, I don't see a problem. And I don't think we can really make that judgement based only on the fact that his parents didn't want to go to a different breeder.
12. I like all the animal cop shows except the Miami one. That guy who catches the alligators drives me up a wall! He has no people skills at all. Did you see the one where the homeless people were feeding an alligator and he was trying to catch it? They were a little upset about it so he overreacted and called the cops. He didn't even try to talk rationally to them. Other than that guy, I think the Miami one is ok, but it seems like everytime its on, I see him.
13. wow :o I can't believe anybody would think that picture is funny. It makes me really sad to know that people can be so cruel.
14. That worked on Buck like a charm! Glad Hailey is coming along! I'm sure you'll enjoy going for a walk without your arm being pulled out of the socket!

Paw troubles

Epsom salts should not hurt like the kind of salt you are thinking of. Epsom salt is Magnesium Sulfate. I've used it to soak my own wounds and it didn't sting. If you use Epsom salt, don't let her drink the water. Mag Sulfate is a natural laxative!
16.
my vet doesn't have an ultra sound machine
Really? An ultrasound seems like a pretty basic piece of equipment. I wonder why he doesn't have one... Have you ever thought of going somewhere else just for the ultrasound? Maybe I'm wrong though, I don't know much about breeding.
17. aww... I can picture her pouncing! It sounds pretty cute, but I'm not the one listening to the toy!
18. I think that this breeder is probably fine to buy from. I do wonder why in the world Atom asked our advice when he was obviously set on buying from this breeder and not willing to consider anything else. It's annoying when people do that. Atom, why did you ask what people thought when it never mattered anyway?
19. Yes that can happen to dogs. It is actually possible for the same thing to happen to a person also. :o As long as there is an egg down there waiting to be fertilized, that egg doesn't care who the sperm belongs to! It is rare because the woman would have to release 2 or more eggs on ovulation and she would have to have 2 different partners before her fertility period passes. Also, the first partner's sperm will have had to miss fertilizing one of the eggs. maybe that's more than anybody would want to know though...
20. Oh ok! Sorry, just wanted to make sure. Let us know if she is pregnant!
21. I'm sure he'll improve. He just needs to get used to being around the other dogs and all that. It's part of his training! I hope your next class goes better :)
22. I didn't know that either. :) Thanks for putting it up crazy_canine.
23. Have you contacted the males owner? This might sound stupid but are you sure he wasn't neutered? I mean, I can see how in all the excitement maybe you couldn't get a good look. You should probably let the males owner know anyway.
24. That's a tough situation since the mother died. You'll want to be careful with a pup that young around your other dog. Your pup's immune system is very weak right now.
25. At Buck's vet a cleaning usually costs between $75 and $100 dollars. But so far his teeth have been healthy and haven't needed to be pulled or anything like that. If you think you might be getting ripped off, check around at other vet's offices and see what they charge. Don't forget to ask about how needing teeth pulled could affect the price. I would expect some tooth decay in a dog as old as yours. As far as I know it is a lot more common in the small breeds as well.
