Thanks for the advice.... The tooth actually fell out in the middle of the night last night. I woke up in the morning, went to check on it, and it was gone. The new tooth is nice and white, just started to come in, and the gums are nice and pink, so I guess we're okay!

This morning I was looking in Jada's mouth, and her one of her molars ( second from the back, top left hand side) is all black at the top near the gums. When I got home from work it looks like it's starting to come out, so I guess it's still her puppy tooth. Is that normal for it to be black? None of her other teeth went black before they fell out. Is there something I can be doing?

Yes, her ears are untaped now. She is 4 1/2 months old, 55 lbs, and 21 inches tall! I can see the picture on my screen, but I will try again... let me know if it works or not! The problem with vicious dogs can almost always be traced back to the other end of the leash. PitBulls are not inherently vicious towards people. They were bred to fight each other. A well bred, well socialized APBT is a loving, caring, gentle pet which fits in great in any home, children or not. We must hold the irresponsible owners accountable, not the dogs. [/quote] There are also many pitbulls, presa, mastiffs, bulldogs, etc, etc who have never "curled a lip at anyone" who deserve a second chance. The anwser is not in destroying all fighting breed dogs. If you never want to see another dog bite, then you would have to banish ALL dogs. If you take away the pitbulls, then the "drug dealers and pit fighters" will just find another dog to fight. It will not eliminate the problem of dog bites or maulings. Any dog has the ability to attack, they ar einfact, just animals. The downfall of the APBT has been the Back Yard Breeders. If it were not for poor breeding practices , due to the popularity of the dog, then pitbulls would not have becoem what SOME of them have become today. A well bred pitbull should NEVER maul, attack , or kill a human being. As I stated above, they were bred to fight each other, but to be very accepting of humans. In fact, their owners would have to put their hands in the middle of them while they were fighting to break them up at times, so the owner must be 100% sure that the dog would know the difference between them and the dog, and not bite them. Fighting dogs that bite their handler's were put down. This was not a characteristic that was looked for, human aggressivness, it was actually stopped in it's tracks when it did occur. So in my opinion, NO banning all fighting dogs will really get us no where. I do agree that sometihings must be done, however outlawing the breeding of all fighting dogs is not it. Perhaps outlawing the back yard breeders is a start!

Defenitly the APBT and the Staffy Bull are my favorite breeds. There is just something about them, the stance they get when they are focused on an object, the look of curiosity in their eye. They just make ya melt. I also think Presa's, Ca de Bou, and Dogue de Bordeaux's are all very, very nice looking dogs also.

My favorite is when one Taurus, Jada and I are out on a walk, one of the neighbors dogs is not on a leash, and comes running on to the road to greet my dogs. The ussual response I hear is, " No, NO Fluffy, don't run after them, they'd eat you!" However, when ol' Fluffy gets up to sniff my dogs, it is usually them that growls, or acts inappropriatly. I can honestly say, Taurus has never growled at ANY dog! Or on HAlloween night, I was walking the dogs and some man says to me, anre those pit bulls? I said no, because I didn't feel like explaining, and he says; " Good, I just wanted to make sure they weren't going to bite me!" No you idiot, they aren't pitbulls, but they are a rare breed of man eating dogs, so you better run!! ( that's what I wish I'd said to him, but he wasn't worth wasting my breath on!) -
Our 4 year old APBT, Taurus is probably the best dog I've ever had. The only concern ( which I admit, is a big one) is that he has a real problem with food/treat /bone guarding. I've been working alot with him with the food bowl guarding, and he has improved 100%. I could beasically stick my head in his bowl while he is eating now, and he doesn't mind. I worked for about a month with him every day, and he is now much better. We are still having a problem with him guarding his treats ( pigs ears/ bones/ chew things). How do I work on this with him? It is a real concern with the two dogs in the house because they are both big, strong dogs, and I want to be pro-active before JAda gets too big. Right now, if JAda comes to close to Taurus while he has a treat, he growls at her ( low growl, hard to even hear), or he will lift his lip and show his teeth at her. She will accept this now because he is bigger and the alpha over her, but when she is 100+ lbs, I am worried that she may try to challenge him, and then I could have a real bad situation on my hands. ALso, I just got married this summer, so if we have children anytime soon, this would put my mind at ease in that respect also ( although I do realize that children and dogs can not be left alone!) Anyways, can anyone suggest expercise that I can do with Taurus to get rid of this problem? ANy help would be appreciated.... Kara

You're right guest... mmy bad, whe i wrote them down, I wrote 1 as an alphaha but then sopied the wrong photo... it is an american bulldog :( sorry... But #8 is defenitly a presa. The photo was taken off K9 gemini kennels and is an amazing looking dog. It just has so many wrinkles because of the expression on it's face in the picture. Both of my dogs ( an APBT and a presa) get a wrinkle face when they tilt their head like that.

The life span of an APBT and AMstaff is 12 years, sp I have quite a while left with both of my angels. The life expectancy of a presa is 9-11 years.

No, I do not agree with BSL. I am a strong beleiver in "Punish the Deed , not the breed." I am the proud owner of an APBT and a presa canario, both who are well socialized, trained, excellent dogs. ( not to mention my best friends). If you look at the American Temperment Test results for breeds The APBT, the AMSTaff and the staffy, all score over 82% on average, right up there with the golden retreiver. ANyone who has owned or known these dogs knows that they are not bad dogs, so why should they be pnished for a few bad owners out there? I do not beleive that BSL works because even if there was a world wide ban on "pitbulls" ( by this I mean AMstaff, APBT, and Staffy), the drug dealers and scumbags would just find another dog to use to do their dirty work. I beleive that if a dog bites, it should be labeled a "dangerous dog", be muzzled in public,and never allowed off leash. If the same dog bites again, it should be putdown. Regardless of breed this is how dangerous dogs should be dealt with. Also, if the owners are found to be negligent or careless with the dog, or train the dog to attack, then I think they should get jail time, and when they get out, they should never be allowed to own another dog. I think we need to start looking at the other end of the leash. MOST Pitbulls are great dogs. I say most because unfortunatly due to their popularity they have become subjected to the wrath of poor breeding practices, and Backyard Breeders just trying to make a quick dollar. But a well bred PitbUll should never be eople aggresive. They were never bred to be people killers. Some may be dog aggressive, nut that is a far cry from people aggresive. I refer to BSL regarding Pitbulls, because they seem to be the targeted dog of the moment, but I beleive this to be true for all dogs. All dogs have the potential to be dangerous and bite, but an all out ban is not going to stop dog bites; people becoming responsible for their dogs proper training and socialization is defenitly a start though.
