American PitBull Terrier 83.9 % passes American Staffordshire Terrier 83.2% German Shepard 82.6% Staffordshire Bull Terrier 83.6% Presa Canario 90.0% Dogo Argentino 88.9% ATTS societies results on some of the more picked on bully breeds...

Why not start with this thread! Everyone can post some information they would think would make sense to add to a letter. We could have points about • The Pits General Temperment • Who should/ Should not Own a PitBull • The tests from the ATTS showing the APBT ranks fourth highest I beleive • Studies that show BSL does not work • Studies that show APBT are not the highest % of bites • How easily the Pitbull can be mistaken for another breed Then we could draft up a letter ( I might not be too good at this one... English , as Im sure you can tell is not my best subject ) which could be sent out the local MP's, etc. Just a thought?
In one of the classes Webby and I went to there was a rottie. He was such a darling He didn't seem to be aware of his own strenght though- once he leaned against his person affectionatly and she fell over!
That is sometimes a problem with us and Jada also. SHe is now 11 months old and getting bigger and bigger! Its funny because the same thing happened to me at obediance class on Monday. I was kneeling down, and she just kinda nudged me, and almost knocked me over. She is currently 100 lbs , and 26 " tall. Bt back to the subject, I think rotties are all big sweeties too. I haven't had the pleaseure of meeting a ton of them, but all that I have met have been very sweet.

We feed both Taurus and Jada Canidae, and have great results.... We were feeding Eukanuba up until about 3 months ago, and switched them over to Canidae at that time. We noticed a huge difference in their coats, they were much shinier, and softer. Also they pooped less often, and not as much each time. Jada suffers from very dry skin, and we noticed a great imporvement in that as well when we switched them over. Good luck with whatever you choose, I know there are websites that have dog food comparisons on them, Ill see if I can find one for you.... Kara

Seeing things like that just breaks my heart... I hope you will be able to find her, and give her a helping hand. Bless your heart....
Quote: To be perfectly honest, I do not agree with mixing breeds I find this hilarious...where do you think our "purebreds' come from??? they were orginally crossbreeds or mixed breeds them selves...the only difference is our Purebreds are man made and have been sexully isolated from the greater population of dogs which causes a reduction in gene diversity which leads to genetic diseases.
of course I realize that all purebred dogs are the product of crossbreeding all I was saying is that I don't necessarily think all the 'designer' breeds they are creating are neccessary, but as I stated in my original post, who am I to judge? If someone loves their dog what ever it is... I think thats all that matters.

To be perfectly honest, I do not agree with mixing breeds, but who am I to judge? My parents have a golden-doodle. Yhey love that dog more then mosty people love their kids! :o Isn't that what it's really about when it comes right down to it? I know that there are lots of dogs in shelters that they could have rescued, but the same could be said about people who buy purebreds from breeders. Why didn't they rescue a dog? Personally, I would never own a doodle of any kind, just as my mother would never own a pit or a presa which is what I have. But, they make each other happy, they love each other, and who are we to frown upon that?

Jada's nose is REALLY dry, is there something that I can be giving her for it. She had dry skin and was constantly scratching a few months ago, and when we called the vet they told us to put safflower oil in her food . SHe doesn't scratch anymore, but her poor nose is still so dry. Her nose is black, but all along the top is brown, looks like shes been digging in the dirt!

I agree that every dog... just as every human ... is different. Before we bought a prong collar for Taurus I could not take him for a walk. So if my husband was not home then we would just go int he backyard... but I could not control him at all. I have to say though, that I would love some advice on how to wein him off of the prong, because I would like to be able to go back to a flat collar. Jada on the other hand, is fine with a flat collar. I've never tried a harness on Jada because I dont need to, but they dont work for Taurus. He would find a way to pull with almost everything.... except a prong collar. !!

Has anyone ever seen/heard of this?
Taurus and Jada replied to Taurus and Jada's topic in Everything about dogs
Thanks , I wasn't sure what the heck it was. Ive never seen it before, but I guess I dont really look that closely at other peoples dogs mouths.... -
Jada has a spot on her tongue that is black/dark purple. Its about 3/4 way back and its about 1cm across. ANy idea what it is? This might sound silly ,but DO dogs get birthmarks? Could that be what it is?
-
Unfortunatly , I dont have any advice on your problem, as its something Ive never dealt with before, but I just wanted to add something.
I feel awfull. I feel like a horrible pet owner. I hate it when people "get rid" of a pet and now I am going to be one of them. What should I do?
I dont think that you should feel bad, or like your a bad owner. As much as we all love our dogs, our family will always come first. No one will think less of you for doing so... putting your family and your new babys safety first. The owners you refer to get rid of their dogs because.... they're stupid, or they shed too much, or they bark too much, or some equally stupid reason. You cant even compare yourself to people like this. It sounds like you've done everyhting you can. Just my two cents. Good luck, I hope someone can give some great advice and you can work through this with them Kara

I am having the same problem right now. Jada only goes in her crate tio sleep at night.... not during the day, but she is allready almost as big as we expected she would get and shes only 8 months old! We paid $180 for her crate, and now we're going to have to buy a new one soon. I agree with the airlione crates. She has a "petcargo" right now. She really seems to like it. It does give them privacy and the "den like" feeling, but there are slits in the side, so she can see our bed when she wakes up in the morning.
-
:D Jada does the same thing. And you're right it is rather amuzing. If we have friends over, they all think its quite funny. The strange thing that Jada does is she'll chse her tail, but because her tail is so long, she gets in a complete "U" when she is chasing it, and she will often be able to grab the end of her tail with her mouth..... and she will still keep turning, WITH HER TAIL IN HER MOUTH  My husband thinks that means she isn't smart? ( I just tell him to shut up at this point) :P

what age is too late to crop my APBT?
Taurus and Jada replied to ebkelsey's topic in Amstaffs & Pit Bulls
We had our Jada done at 9 weeks old. Our vet reccommends doing the ears from 9-12 weeks old. Her ears had this sponge thing attatched to them for about 3 weeks and we had to tape for an additional 4 weeks to get them to stand. Good luck Kara -
IAMS - NOT as good as they say it is...
Taurus and Jada replied to courtnek's topic in Everything about dogs
So I guess my question is, should I be thinking of switching foods if Taurus is doing well on Eukanuba? I certainly do not want to shorten the life of my dog , however, Taurus' stomach is very sensitive, and he doesnt adjust well to food change. Eukanuba is the food reccommended by our vet, so that is why we stuck with it... Also, dog food is pretty expensive allready, honestly, I dont know if we could afford more then we pay allready. Jada is groing like a bad weed, shes allready 90 lbs.... 8 months old. She eats quite a bit. We buy her a 20lb bag of food every 2-3 weeks @$34, and Taurus a 20lb bag every 3-4 weeks @$30. -

Taurus and Jada replied to courtnek's topic in Everything about dogs
I agree with the statement " to each his own" as you said. We feed our dogs Iams.... well Eukanuba. They both do great on it. They have shiny coats, healthy teeth, solid stools...... Sure, Im sure that there are probably better foods out there that we could pay double what we're paying with Eukanuba, but Im a firm beleiver in if it aint broke, don't fix it. Also, Taurus doesn't seem to do well with diet changes, so I wouldn't want to put him through that. -
my parents have a husky. We live in Dorchester, Ontario. About 45 mins from Hamilton. Its just east of London.
-
Actually John Wade was exactly who we were planning on calling. I have heard really good things about him, so we thought we would give it a shot. We live just outside London ( Dorchester) so Im not sure if he will come to our house or not, but hopefully he will. I think that would be beneficial with the other dog present.

Well, thanks you to all that posted for me. I have posted the exact same post on several boards, and wow... I have alot of resources to go on now. That is fantastic! I am not worried about Taurus biting me, as someone stated... perhaps he was having a bed day. I am not excusing his behavior though, don't worry. I have been hand feeding him for the last two days both of his meals per day. I scoop his food out, make him come over and lay in front of me, and stay for 1 min before I start to feed him. The I hand feed him his food. I am going to do this for a week. I think it is important that Taurus understands that food comes from me, and also that feeding time is a good time. The food will not be the big obstacle for us, it is the bones. Anything really good that he feels is worth protecting. This is why I am setting up an appointment to see a behaviorist. Anyways, thanks again for all the great advice Kara

Taurus has always been very protective of his food/bones, but mostly with other dogs not usually with us. Lately though, he has been growling when we go near him when he

Taurus was just playing and somehow tore /ripped his dewclaw. It is cracked 3/4 of the way up, and you can see blood in it, but no part of it actually ripped off. What can I do?

I need some advice on jumping up. Jada jumps up on everything! It is going to be a big problem when she is 100+ lbs! What sorts of exercises can I do to teach her not to jump up. Just saying "No" is helpless, she spends more time on 2 legs then on 4 legs it seems!! LOL Any help would be greatly appreciated
