Email was sent yesterday.....Hopefully he does get thousands of letters and is given alot of good things to oppose the ban with. I focused my email on the positives with Calgary AC, and asked why we were following Winnipegs lead (which was far from effetive) when Calgary has done such a great job... Hopefully we can make an impact!

Question about bladders...
Taurus and Jada replied to Taurus and Jada's topic in Everything about dogs
Does she seem extra thirsty two? She could be a borderline diabetic, which would cause excess thirst and urination....what did the test the urine for? Usually they do blood tests to check for diabetes...
she doesn't seem to be drinking any more then normal. Im not exactly sure what they checked for, but when he called me he said her wgite and red blood cells were fine and showed no problems??(what ever that means??) -
I have a question regarding bladder infections in dogs. A little background info first. I have a female Presa Canario mix , she is spayed ( since 7 months old) and she is currently 15 months old. She has been housetrained completely for 6-8 months now, but within the past two weeks, she has been having accidents in the house. She is having to pee every hour to hour and a half, and if she doesn't get outside, she will have an accident. The strangest thing is that at night she seems to be peeing in her sleep, because her bed has smelt like pee (quite strongly) 3 times over the past two weeks. I wash it each time, and have taken it to the dry cleaners as well...I find it odd that she would be sleeping in her own pee??? But she doesn't get up to have the accident, she is still sleeping when I wake up, and the bed smells like urine. I took a smaple of her pee to the vet this morning for them to test, and he called and said that everything was completely normal. He told me to keep an eye on it, but that there really wasn't anything he could think of that would be causing it. I really dont want to have to deal with a urine filled bed for the next 10 years! Is there anything else that perhpaps this could be? Thank you Kara

What's everyones dogs being for Halloween?
Taurus and Jada replied to Rusty&Chip's topic in Everything about dogs
Well, Taurus was Superman again this year. I really wanted to dress them up as Batman and Robin, but couldn't find the costumes. I actually didn't have much time this year with all teh madness goign on in Ontario at present. Anyways, Taurus (ahem.. I mean Superdog) helped me hand out candy, well to the kids whose parents actually let them come to teh house with one of "those dogs" Im not kidding about people not coming to our house though. It was really sad. I watched ATLEAST half of teh kids parents walk them right past our house , stopped at the neighbours on one side, then went right past our house, and to the people beside us :-? . This is what the Attorney General has done to us. Even if this ban goes through, people are terrified of my dogs now... it is so sad.... -

We have a bissel green machine, and it is great. I like it because it actually sucks the stain ( and mess ) out of the carpet. They have a pet formula, and we have always been very happy with it. I think the machine is about $100 , but well worth every penny.

So we have some catching up to do. PLease sign the petition if you are opposed to breed specific bans. Thanks

michael.bryant@jus.gov.on.ca Please email the attorney general of Ontario and tell him you do not feel a ban on pit bulls is the right course of action. This is a proposed PROVINCE WIDE BAN! Not just in my city. We thought if they banned them in our city we could just move. Well not in this case. This would be province wide, and we would have no where to go! In an article published today, Attorney General Bryant stated he received over 1000 emails yesterday alone, and almost all were supporting a ban. Please send in your thoughts. It does not have to be long, just enought to say you do not support this ban. Thank you, A very stressed out Kara
Pitbull owners who take their dogs out really need to understand the leash concept. Of course I'm preaching to the choir here but none the less I need to rant a bit.
I think this goes for any breed of dog, not just pitbulls. Unless you are in a designated off leash park, your dog should be on a leash, period. I dont care if its Lassie... it should be on a leash. As far as aggressive dogs go, (pitbull or not), I agree... people really need to realize, if your dog is aggressive with other dogs (as some are from all groups) you should not let it off leash except for a fenced in area. I dont know why this is a hard concept for people to understand?? I am sorry that this happened to you. Im glad that your pup (or yourself) was not hurt ... and I hope this kid gets a clue and gets a handle on his dog before another situation happens which might end up much worse. We really should be able to call AC over issues like this... because if someone can't control their dog, then they shouldn't own one.

Time Sensitive - APBT/SBT Need Info on Differences
Taurus and Jada replied to DogPaddle's topic in Amstaffs & Pit Bulls
I know there is barlees angels. I think its in Hamilton. www.Barlees.org There is also the lady who K posted about in the "scared for my dogs life" post. Her email address is there, and she rescues pits when she can. A women in my community also rescues pit bulls.( well all breeds, but she doesn't turn away pits.). I beleive she works at the Humane Society as well. http://www.workingpitbull.com/amstaffpit.htm this is another good link... -
In the London, Ontario area?
Taurus and Jada replied to Taurus and Jada's topic in Everything about dogs
Well I went to the rally this morning, and I must say it was a total waste of my time. I thought it would be interactive, and maybe everyone would get to speak out about how the "streets can be safe again" (her words not mine). Instead it was just about 50 people listening to this lady talk for about 30 mins. First she started out by saying "I want to make it clear that this is not a pitbull bashing party" which was good, however I got the feeling that in the future she may be pushing for a breed specific ban. Things like " we are not pushing for a ban on specific breed at this time" were said which makes me wonder if this will be pushed for at a later date? Anyways, then she pleaded with all dog owners to pelase be responsible with their pets and keep them on a leash at all times. The problem I saw with this is that I am pretty sure most people that were there at 10:30 am on a Sat. morning were the responsible owners, and she was preaching to the wrong people. However, I do applaud her efforts in trying to make the community a safer place, and I hope that things remain all-breed based and not specific breed based. I also agree... what is a large breed? Pit Bulls certainly aren't. Also, is a large breed go by height or weight? If you go by either of these things, some breeds would have different sized dogs.. for example the APBT. Breed standard is 30-60 lbs, however, it is not uncommon to see an 80 lb Pit Bull. Also, there are a heck of a lot of Golden's and Labs, and they all sure would be considered large breeds.... There is a city council meeting Aug.30th, in which I will be making a presentation. This women will also be making a presentation, as will another owner of a Presa in the community. (and many others that I am not aware of). I have started working on my presentation, and I am trying to focus it specifically on BSL, and not so much on Pits. I am starting out listing the cities which have repealed their BSl due to ineffectiveness. Also I will be stating court cases which have overturned BSL. Next I am going to list all of the organizations which oppose BSL and haopefully get some quotes as to their reasoning. Thirdly, I am going to go into cost details. Outlining other cities costs (if possible) and reasons I feel it would be detrimental to the city. Next I will state all the reasons I feel BSL is ineffective. (this will be the main focus). Reasons will include: BSL only deals with part of the problem, does not deal with all owners, Pit Bulls will still be allowed to live out the rest of their natural life which means there will be a min of 12 years with pitbulls in the city. This will give people sufficient time to find another breed to replace the pit with, and we will be back at square 1 b/c the problem was not addressed at the root. Also in this section I will give some ideas as to how I feel the city can combat the problem without any BSL. Lastly, I am going to follow up with some facts on the APBT. This is mainyl because I know there will be people there bashing the pit , and this will only be with news artciles. I will be there with facts! I am also going to print off one of those "Find the Pit Bull" games and put it up for everyone to see just how hard it is to pick out the pitbull. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, and when my speach is ready I will post it in hopes of some feedback. I want to sound as educated as possible, and I woudl like to really get through to people. Thanks, Kara -

Unfortunatly, it doesn't look like we will have many people there defending the Pit Bulls. :( On such short notice most people are unable to make it, so I may be there by myself, or with a select few... but I dont mind, I will be there even if its pouring rain and Im talking to only one person whos mind I might be able to change! -

WOW!! Thank you so much to everyone who wrote a letter. I really, really appreciate it. There is a rally in London on Saturday against pitbulls, and I will let you know how it turns out. Unfortunatly , it doesn't look like there will be very many pitbull enthusiasts there, but if I can change even one persons mind I will be happy. -

She will be at confederation Park Sturday morning at 10:30 am. Anyone that can make it... would be fanstastic!!! Everyone I have contacted so far can not make it :( So I gope its not going to just be a couple people... but even if it is, and even if we can get through to even one person, I will be happy. -
If you are, and you are available this Saturday am, the recent vitim of the pitbull "attack" will be in confederation park to "educate" the general public on these vicious animals. PLease email me at kara@diarecordings.ca if you are able to come and show people the real truth about this breed. Thanks, Kara

Scared for my dogs life....
Taurus and Jada replied to Taurus and Jada's topic in Everything about dogs
Ok,well I just got off the phone with the radio station. They said the reason they did not get in contact with this lady is beause they did not have the resources to find her (yeah right...), but if she contected them, they would be happy to air her side of the story. Now all I've got to do is see if I can get in touch with her and see if she will contact them... You should have heard his ears perk up when I said that there would be people at teh park also to educate the general public on the common misconceptions of the breed. He says "Now that sounds interesteing!". Who knows maybe the media will be there too! K, how did you find this info out? You're good! -
Scared for my dogs life....
Taurus and Jada replied to Taurus and Jada's topic in Everything about dogs
K, I could kiss you right now!!! Thank you so much for finding this out for me. I think I will calling the radio station today and asking why they did not contact this lady to hear her side of the story. They had an interview with the vicitims wife, but not with the dog owner. I have also contacted this email contact you gave me, and I plan on being at that park Sat am... ** ok, my mom just called, apparently this lady was on the news again and she had it broadcasted on teh newstation that she will be in the park to "educate" people on these dangerous breeds. -
Scared for my dogs life....
Taurus and Jada replied to Taurus and Jada's topic in Everything about dogs
HF, I have to agree with you on everything you just said. Taurus has bitten me once by mistake while trying to get at another dog. It was a total accident, and it didn't even break the skin.... just bruised and scraped. To me, this is excusable, because I put myself in a sitation between two dogs that i shouldn't have. As soon as he realized he bit my arm and not the other dog... he was immediatly submissive... he crouched down, and when I went back over to him, would not stop licking my face. He knew he bit me by accident, and i knew it too. IF the injuries in this case were not embelished ( and I say that because how great of a story would it make to run in the newspaper if the man only had scratches) then yes, I agree that the dog should be put down. It should have let go as soon as it realized it was biting a human and not the dog. However, perhaps it did not "lock its jaws :x " as the story implied, perhaps it just kept trying to get at the dog, and ended up biting the man in the process a few different times... I dont know, I wasn't there, and the story was obviously being told my the victims family, and I would be very surprised if they weren't exagerating the truth... its what most people do. Never the less, it was absolutly the owners fault, and this dog will most likely pay with its life  -

Taurus and Jada replied to Taurus and Jada's topic in Everything about dogs
Thank you so much to all who take the time to send an email. It doesn't have to be long.. if you only have 2 mins just to say you are opposed to the ban that woudl be great!! :D I am terrified more that this is becoming too common in too many centres and this will one day be a world-wide thing where no one will be able to own pitbulls. I myself live just outside of London, so I would not be affected by teh by-law should one pass.. but man its still scary happening 10 mins from your community. I will fight to the death on this, even though it will not effect my dogs simply because it is wrong... I have several friends in London, some of whom own pitbulls, and they will obviously be affected... :( -
The ciy of London is considering a breed specific ban after another pitbull attack last weekend. I have wrote to teh city coucillers, and they have requested that I write a letter stating my point of view on the issue. All letters received will be added to the agenda, and read by the councilors, and taken into consideration. rcaranci@london.ca Please email this counciller and state your position on this issue. We need as much help as possible... so the more letters received, the better. Thank you for your help, Kara

Scared for my dogs life....
Taurus and Jada replied to Taurus and Jada's topic in Everything about dogs
I agree 100% that the dog should be destroyed, however, I am terrified that this will start a chain of events that will inevitabily end in a breed ban in my city :( ... If these dogs showed signs of dog agrression before then this lady should have walked them seperatly. Mine are dog aggressive and I can not control them together , so I walk them seperatly. That is the only responsible thing to do. The only think I can see in this situation was that the man was holding the dog over his head, and the dog was trying to get at the dog and bit the man in the process. If a passer-by could take the dog off of the man and take him back to his apartment, how vicious could it have been to people? -
This is the latest in dog attacks in my hometown, London, Ont. There was a talk show on this morning regarding the issue, which I called into to get my say. I was the only pit owner who called in ( I think) so the host spoke with me for about 5 mins... basically wondering why anyone would want to own a dog like this. I was also surprised because when they were talking about breeds and breed bans, they also mentioned Presa's and Cane Corso's..... Family blasts dog controls A London man had his right arm torn up in an attack by two pit bulls. PATRICK MALONEY, Free Press Reporter 2004-08-17 02:39:31 It was bad enough that Chris Durand's right arm was torn up in an attack by two pit bulls. But what's even more disturbing and shocking to his wife, Darlene Durand, is that the two dogs -- one of which locked its jaw on Chris's right triceps for about 20 seconds -- weren't immediately removed from their north London neighbourhood. "If another human being had attacked my husband, he'd be in jail right now, away from the community," she said yesterday of the Sunday attack that left her husband in hospital. "But these dogs are still in my neighbourhood." What started as a leisurely family walk to Constitution Park took a scary twist when a woman left her Fanshawe Park Road apartment with the two pit bulls. The dogs ran toward the Durands, who were with their seven-year-old son, Nathan, and walking their Shih Tzu, Oreo. To protect Oreo from the pit bulls, Chris Durand held him up over his head, his wife recalled. One of the pit bulls latched onto Durand's right triceps -- which bore three deep puncture marks yesterday -- and held on until a stranger ran up and helped. "He was hanging off my husband's arm," Darlene Durand said. "We're not talking a little bite. We're talking you're in the hospital . . . and you don't know how this is going to end up. This is our life and these are just dogs." Police ordered the dogs quarantined inside their owner's ground-floor apartment. But the Middlesex-London Health Unit was set last night to take both dogs for a 10-day observation period at the London Animal Care Centre, which handles animal care and bylaw enforcement. The fact that wasn't done right away upset Darlene Durand. "(I) can see the dogs' apartment from my home," she said, still shaken from the attack. "How many attacks does this have to take? Did it have to be my son for people to sit up and take notice? "It should be one attack and (the dog is) destroyed. There should be no arguments." No charges will be laid, London police said, because the pit bulls were on leashes -- but one broke when the dogs charged toward Oreo. After the animal centre's 10-day quarantine, the dogs will be returned home, said George Blair of the health unit -- but officials plan to investigate whether further punishment is needed. "There may be a muzzling order," said executive director Brett Harlton. "These types of things do happen, but this sounds like a fairly serious incident that warrants a full investigation." Darlene Durand heaped praise on the man who came to her husband's aid, though she didn't want to make his name public. The man -- "Our angel," she said -- pulled the pit bulls off Chris and took them back into their owner's apartment. "I don't know many people who would jump into a dog attack like that," she said, adding she plans to nominate the man for a citation. To Chris Durand, the pit bulls aren't to blame, but he said he fears their aggressive behaviour will only break loose more and more often in his north-end neighbourhood. His wife, who is considering a civil suit against the owner, is more blunt: The dogs should be destroyed and city council should ban aggressive breeds. "I'm not an anti-dog person. I am an anti-vicious dog person." Copyright
