1. :D Congratulations! That's a lot of Posts
2. I see it! I see it! And yes she looks very spoiled. BUt that's okay, we all do it right? (please tell me we all do it, because I sure do!!) Very cute!
3. My parents have a husky and she does a lot of woo-wooing. SHe talks constantly. Doesn't ever bark much though..
4. What is the normal age for puppies to lose their puppy teeth?
5. Thanks for all the help. We are feeding Jada twice per day, but I think we will start feeding 3 times because she usually eats all 5 cups before noon. We get up with her around 7am so I was thinking 7am , noon, then five or six pm. Does that sound alright? We allready feed Taurus twice daily but thats because he will only eat 2 cups at a time, so we feed him in the morning, and at supper time. I guess we will just add the noon hour feeding in for Jada.
6. Hope everything goes well.... will be thinking of you!
7. What is the reason to feeding puppies 3-4 times per day instead of the usual 1-2 times per day. Will it really affect the puppy if the only eat once per day, but they can eat all their food in one sitting ( yes my dogs a pig). I was just curious todfay if she physically could eat all of her food at once, and she did! All 5 cups! Can you beleive it? I couldn't. What are the cons of feeding all at one time?
8. Great idea... I'm anxious to see if you get a response. Please keep us posted
9. Glad everything turned out well for Cory ( and bad for his owner ) Hope he gets a great life now which he so ever deserves
10. When you look at that, it's no wonder there are so many "pibull attacks" Look how many dogs look similar to a pitbull! (although, I don't know how some one could think some of those dogs were pibulls. ie rotweiller, boxer, ridgeback.... those are a bit of a stretch. Oh yes, and the JRT's)
11. That's really funny, I've actually been asked by 4 or 5 people if Jada is " one of those wrinkle dogs" as they put it! I mean come on... do you see wrinkles anywhere? I don't . LOTS of extra skin, but no wrinkles SOme people make me laugh :P
12. I just started Jada at obediance classes last night. We did not take Taurus to obediance, we trained him ourselves. The main reason why I took Jada is because of her size. When she is full grown she has the potential to weigh 115 lbs! I only weigh 120, so I want to make sure that I have FULL control over her. I work everyday with her, but I also work 2 jobs, about 60 hours a week total, and my husband works 5, 10 or 11 hour days, so I don't have a lot of extra time. Any extra time does go into my dogs. Yesterday was my first class, it was alot of fun, and we do want to make sure JAda is socialized well because of her breeds history. SO I'll tell you when it's done, if I think it was worth it.
13. I changed my mind, I'm going to give a review on JAda a try, even though she's only 3 months. Ok here goes.... Breed: Perro de Presa Canario Pros/Cons: 1) Very Big Dog- requires early socialization, training, firm handler ( you can expect your dog to be anywhere from 90-120 lbs) 2) Eats a TON of Food 3) Great Guard Dog 4) I've read that they are not easily trainable because they are so stubborn, but Jada is very willing to learn 5) Barks alot - low, threatening sounding bark 6) Mimimal Grooming required 7) NOt always good aaround other dogs. So far JAda is good around Most dogs, but we will see 8) Very playful. They have a lot of energy. ( very glad we have a big backyard and another dog to wear her out) 9) If you purchase this dog, (just the same as an APBT), be ready for people to be intimidatd, not understand why you would want a dog bred for fighting, not let their dog/ children/themselves any where near your dog, possibly look at you differently 10) Very Affectionate. Loves to give kisses. Not quite as clingy as our APBT ( who won't let us go more then 2 feet away from him). She likes to have her own space as well as be around us Overall, I am very happy with our Presa so far. Her and Taurus get along great, she plays well with other dogs, doesn't nip ( that often!), she does chew alot, but she has been a great addition to out family. If you have time to spend socializing, and training, I would definitly reccomend a presa. If you do not have the time/desire to spend training, and socializing, I would defeitly say do not get this dog. There's nothing worse then a big, powerful 110 lb dog that won't listen to anyone and is out of control
14. Well tonight was JAda's first night at obediance. It went pretty well. There was one dog there ( a pitbull , rotweiller mix) that she really didn't like, but she made friends with this really cute staffy. We practiced: sit, stand, down, here, off. We had allready been practicing all of these commands, but were really having trouble with down. She just wouldn't lie all the way down. But she seemed to get it tonight... she did it about 4 or 5 times !! Yeah. ANyways, it was alot of fun, and I can't wait to go next week, defenitly worth the money
15. Sounds good to me... I will start with Taurus. I don't think I will rate Jada at this time becuase I think at 3 months it is still too early.( she does start obediance classes tonight though!) Taurus- 3 1/2 years old. Male. UNneutered American Pit Bull Terrier 5 out of 5 Taurus is the absolute best dog I have ever owned. He just never stops loving! That is defenitly his best quality. He plays a little rough with small things ( cats, children, puppies) He would never hurt them, but I just don't think he understands how big and powerful he is, and when he plays that he can be alittle rough for their liking. ALthough having JAda around is helping this problem. He is good with kids, although his exposure to them has been minimal, he is a bit too rammy with them. Try's to kiss them and almost knocks them over. He is a rarity in his breed in that he is not dog aggressive AT ALL! It is esspecially surprising because he isn't neutered. If he meets a dog that doesn't like him and growls at him, he just keeps on walking. ( with the exception of one dog that he got into a little scuffle with. Another unneutered male APBT). All around I would reccomend an APBT to anyone who understands dogs, is willing to take the time to train, socialize, and most of all LOVE their dog... not just tie him/her up outside. You must constantly work with them, but the reward is in the smile... How could you not love that face... 16. Not being rude at all, I actually said correct me on my breeds because I really do not know a ton about breeds other then the ones that I have owned, however, the dog I thought was a bulldog was only about 20-21 inches tall, aren't Mastiff's bigger then that? Also, it was not a AKC show, I live in Canada so it was a CKC show. Also, when I looked on the website that lists all shows in my region, it said no bulldog classes on the 19th, but she was in the best of breed?? ( think that's what it's called). so perhaps there were bulldog classes on the 17& 18th. Not sure because I only went on the Sunday. I think American Bulldog is also a rare breed in Canada as it has not been recognized by the CKC, ( again I think), but I could be wrong, it may be now recognized.???? I've never owned one, so never had any reason to wonder?
17. Sorry about that, I worked until 1 am last night, then back up with Jada at 7 am and to work again this morning at 8 am. ANyways, here are the pics. I didn't get nearly as many as I wanted, because my batteries ran out, and when I went to put in the spare set that I brought , I realized that they were dead too... bummer Here they are... This first one is alittle unclear but it's too great danes. One was a silver/blue , absolutely gorgeous. These next three are of my favorite from the show. A beautiful american bulldog another nice dane in the distance,... SO those are all the photos that I got. I do have a question if any show veterans can help me with... How the heck do these things work? Here's my take on how they work, please correct me if I'm wrong, which I sure I am. The dogs compete against their own breed, and the winner of that goes on to compete against other breeds, and the judges are looking for how closely the dog represents the breed standard? Am I far off? Now what happens if there is only one dog in a specific breed catagory? Who would it compete with?
18. I am going to my first dog show today. I am very excited!!! I will post pics when I get home from work tonight! Kara :D
19. What show is this you're all talking about? I've never heard of it.
20. I agree that she has no right to come into YOUR house and sa things like that about your Kids, but I also agree that grama's are usually set in their ways, and there's not much anyone can do about that!
21. Matt and I used to live in an apartment right downtown London and every year for Canada day they would have a fireworks display in Harris park which was literally our backyard. Our back yard gate went right into the park. Anyways, every year Taurus would run and hide under the bed as soon as he heard them. The first year we lived there, he was outside with us when they first started going off, and I've never seen him jump so high in my life. It scared the living bejesus out of him! Then he ran into the house, tail so far inbetween his legs you couldn't even see it.
22. ok ok you win ... uncle ... uncle :D
23. yes, I also like the pic of them playing tug-o-war. It's my dogs favorite game also. Kara
24. Well I just got back from Superpet, and bought Taurus a Halloween costume, so I had to share, he just looked too cute. Here he is.... our own little superdog. I just thought I'd throw it in because they both look pretty good... he he he
25. :( That's so sad. We have a dog that lives right down the street from us, that is in her run ( 3feet x 8 feet maybe??) ALL day. Then her owners put her in the garage to sleep. It's so sad. My parents also live down the street from us ( and them) and my mom was talking to the guyone day about her and my mom offered to take te dog if they ever didn't want it ( because it sure seemed to us that they allready didn't want it!!). He says to her "Nay, we've just got her so we can breed her". WHat a shame. I hate jerks like that. I wish he'd just let my mom take the dog, she'd have such a better life with my parents. make's me mad to think about it
