Anyone ever get their vacs at Petco?
schippsmom replied to courtnek's topic in Everything about dogs
:Dog_run: Sorry I wasn't here when you first posted. Re-Run had his second and third puppy shots at Petsmart, they are closer than Petco so we went there but they pretty much have the same set up. I was very pleased with them, the vet (independent of Petsmart) was very professional and has a private practice and does this as a service to the community. I do have a regular vet for the yearly things and emergencies but I was very pleased with Petsmart and will take him back there for more vaccinations. Paula & Re-Run -
:Dog_run: Not sure what happened at the cabin. While I was cleaning up and getting ready to go home Re-Run came back the hallway with his tail between his legs and ears flat back. He looked at me, tried to sit down and fell over :o . He got back up and I went to get my daughter, he followed me down the hall but he was walking sideways and looked like he was trying to throw up. When I got to the kitchen the cupboard to the cleaning supplies was open but nothing was spilled on the floor or looked disturbed. By this time I'm thinking I'm god knows how far from his vet and it's a Sunday morning. Re-Run was doing his best to keep up with me and I wanted to get him outside in case he did throw up. I open the door and Re-Run went head first down the steps, he rolled over once before he hit the bottom. I yelled for Steph who was at he boyfriends cabin a few away from ours and they have dogs and live there so he would know a vet in the area. They saw me running up the road, yelling for Steph and Re-Run was close behind me. He was walking a bit sideways but getting better control over himself. By the time I told them what happened and asked about a vet, Re-Run seemed fine. Steph did notice the odd behavior so I know I wasn't seeing things. When we calmed down and Re-Run was back to normal we went back to our cabin and looked again for signs that Re-Run was in the cleaning supplies but they didn't look disturbed. He appeared to be drunk but no alcohol was open and it happened in 2-3 minutes and alcohol doesn't effect dogs that suddenly and disappear that quickly. He never did vomit so I'm not sure if he ate something and he seems to have recovered completely. Could he have had a seizure or does it sound like something else? Any info, opinions or advise would help me!! I've been a basket case since it happened.

:Dog_run: I had to laugh at some of the answers. Kind of sounds like a bunch of first graders answering a teacher's question. Paula & Re-Run

:Dog_run: Wow, Re-Run has had tons of greenies and never had a problem with them. I've also given greenies to some of his friends, none had a problem. I'll have to keep an eye on him from now on. I'll be ordering a new box in the next few weeks to see if a different batch causes problems. Paula & Re-Run

:Dog_run: Re-Run (and my family) has only had lamb and deer. I'm afraid to give my family beef. As far as organs I only give the liver and heart but they have always been cooked. This may gross some of you out but the heart and liver is excellent sauted in butter and onion. People do it with beef all the time so why not deer? Paula & Re-Run

:Dog_run: Raw bones are always fun. I gave Re-Run one with lots of raw meat still on it and I forgot to close my bedroom door. Thirty minutes later I went in my room and it looked like a murder occured, blood stains everywhere!!!! :o . Fortunately, I caught it right away and was able to get the stains out. My personal prefrence is raw bones, outside when possible, and Greenies. Re-Run will do anything for a Greenie and it keeps him occupied for awhile. Bullie sticks are also great and Petco will sometimes run them on sale buy one get one free. Paula & Re-Run -
:Dog_run: Boy that's a tough one. I don't believe a dog will just grow out of anything, they too need to be taught not to do things. I am also a firm believer in crates. Scott thought I was cruel when I first brought it home but now he is also a firm believer in them. Anyway, I would offer her an easy to read book on training and point out what problems you had and how it really helped you. Good luck with that and don't be afraid to ask for progress updates.

:Dog_run: Hey Matty, always enjoy seeing "the other side of the fence" I used to take Re-Run to Petsmart to socialize him, most people do ask to pet him but a few don't. He did bite one little brat, sorry, girl but her mom simply said "how many times have I told you to ask first!" Yes, I got very lucky there and I know it. Now Re-Run can handle most situations but he had to get used to being in strange places and the only way to do that is to be in strange places. Paula & Re-Run

:Dog_run: This is just crazy, my Schipperke bites just as hard as any of those dogs if provoked. So what if he only weighs 13 pounds, it still hurts! Not that he bites people. It's just discrimination. Paula & Re-Run

:Dog_run: K and sashagirl how right you are, what a horrible situation to be in. It's nice to see Lady is putting her beloved pet's needs first. Paula & Re-Run -
:Dog_run: :D I tried to volunteer at the local shelter but I kept crying, it can be so sad. :( I do other things for them now. Glad to hear your experience is good. Paula & Re-Run

:Dog_run: I just received very sad news from friends of ours that own a cabin near ours. Bo, Re-Run's first friend that he made up there, is going to be PTS after Easter. he was diagnosed with cancer a few weeks ago. They did some tests to see how bad it was and the results were terrible. Bo is an Irish Setter that basically is the welcoming committee for our subdivision up there. He also introduced Re-Run to all the other dogs up there. Fortunately Bo and his family will all be up there for the entire time of my long weekend so we will be able to spend one last weekend with him. I know I will cry a lot. I'm just glad I can be with him for his final days. Paula & Re-Run

:Dog_run: I know a woman who has both dogs and birds and as much as I love her birds there is no way I'd want the responsibly of owning them. Do ALOT of research before getting one, they are very time consuming animals. Also, to feed them properly is very expensive. The dogs are min pins and they could care less about the birds. I guess she had bigger dogs at one time and they didn't care for the birds, it just depends on the dogs. They never hurt the birds but she never gave them the chance. Paula & Re-Run
