I have had Indy do the same thing. Never any problem with his food bowl or toys but once in a while if he has something he is not supposed to have he will give a little growl when I try to take it off him. Now I know my dog and know he won't bite. He is testing me to see what he can get away with. As soon as he growls, without a seconds hesitation I reef what ever he has out of his mouth and yell "Don't you DARE growl at me" in the meanest voice I can manage. I then take the object away and ignore him for a while. He knows he is in trouble, his ears go down, hangs his head and the then comes sooking as if to say I'm sorry  He has done this probably about 2 or 3 times with a fair bit of time in between. Again he is testing me, once he gets in trouble he doesn't dare try it again for ages and I have no problem taking forbidden objects from him. PS - what breed is Zebra again? Some breeds are more prone to dominance and will try to test you. The one on one training is an excellent idea. However you can't let him get away with growling. As soon as it gets him the desired result i.e. he gets to keep what he has got, then he will try it again and again.

Don't really have a suggestion other than to keep a very close eye on them in the back yard. Geez the human race really disgusts me sometimes  I think all the dogs owners in your area should band together and try to catch the people doing this.

Aroura had lots of good suggestions and my advice to you is follow your dreams and do what you want to do while you are still young. I would love to work with dog/animals but have mortgage to pay so I am pretty much stuck with my boring office job. :-?

Indy's done the plastic bag thing - twice :o Stupid question - but what's a dixie cup?
-
Can such a little thing really have caused that much trouble?? BTW - Max is just gorgeous.

Really don't know what I would do. Both our cars are only two door cars and Indy takes up the WHOLE backseat in both of them. :o We really need to get rid of them and get a more practical car :-?

What Some People Will Do For Money...
Malamum replied to Rottiegirl's topic in Everything about dogs
:x I think Hazel pretty much covered my thoughts -
Got to say I have no idea - I'm hopeless at this game but wanted to say they are very cute.

 I know - I felt so mean but it wasn't my car so couldn't really take him anywhere at that time. I do normally take him everywhere with me.

Make a few very short fun trips. Just go as far as the corner shop buy your dog a treat, give it to her and then go back home again. Indy was scared of the car the first few times and boy can those Malamutes howl I thought I would be deaf before we got where we were going. I just ignored him and after a while he stopped, I guess because he figured it wasn't doing any good. He now just LOVES the car. Yesterday my boyfriends dad let Indy out the front and the naughty little boy was running down the street, I just went to the car that was in the driveway opened the door and yelled "I'm going without you" he turned on his ass and ran back to me as quick as his little legs would take him  (though I did feel guilty about tricking him and taking him straight back inside) PS - Mouse, love your new avatar

Great names everyone, I really love hearing about why they were chosen.

Why don't you try getting Tyler to give Hazel her dinner. That way she may focus more on the food and forget about being agressive and then realise "Hey this guy can't be too bad if he feeds me"

ha ha ha.... this thread is sooo funny. I'm pretty sure we have all been there. I remember giving Indy a brand new squeaking toy just as the football grandfinal was starting - got to say my b/f was not a happy camper  Gooeydog definatley has the right idea, though Indy actually puts it into action him self. His squeakers only last about an hour or two then he comes to me with the toy in his mouth biting it as hard and as fast as he can and looking at me as if to say "Why won't it squeak anymore?"

Thanks guys, I'll think I'll start using the On By command. He is very good with the Leave It when it comes to food but dogs.... well that's a different story. It might help to have the two different commands so will start with that today. He is still only fairly young (9 months) so really hoping he grows out of it.

As our summer has now ended it is dark when I take Indy for his nightly walk and he started to freak out about the car lights, he would run and hide behind my legs. He normally has no problem with cars but as soon as it gets dark he hates the lights. I have just kept taking him walking and talking to him in a happy voice and he seems to be getting over it - no hiding behind me anymore. Hopefully by next week they won't faze him at all.
