  1. When I take Indy walking - I hate coming across other dogs as Indy just goes nuts. He barks, woo-woos, jumps up and down and just generally goes crazy. Now I wouldn't say he is dog aggressive at all. He has had plenty of socialisation and when allowed to interact with dogs there is no problem. If I let him go up to the dogs he is going crazy about all he wants to do is play but I don't want him carrying on like this. I decide when he is allowed to socialise with another dog, not him. I am starting to get very embarrassed and feel like people are looking at me thinking I have an out of control dog. I take him to obedience classes once a week and also practice his commands at home so he really is very well behaved 99% of the time, it's just when we see other dogs when walking all bets seem to be off. I've tried the ”leave it” command, telling him “lets go” and keeping on walking but nothing seems to work. What am I doing wrong and what should I be doing instead?
  2. That's so funny
  3. I also had a feeling that this might happen  Good on you though, he sounds like such a sweetheart
  4. The post about middle names was a great one and got me thinking about how people come up with the name for their dogs. Where did everyone get their names from and what was the thought process behind them? We named Indiana (Indy) after Indiana Jones. However after we had had him for a while I found out that George Lucas had a Malamute named Indiana and he actually named the character after his dog. So I thought that was pretty cool.
  5. Indy doesn't have a middle name. However I'm sure he must think his name is "SLOW DOWN!!" In regards to Stewart, all that keeps coming into my head is Stewart Little..... sorry no help I know :D
  6. I like it :D
  7. Congratulations on the new puppy. I am so happy for you.
  8. Got to admit I have never actually seen a hairless in real life - only in pictures. Will have to keep my eye out. Love those Northern breeds myself :D
  9. That is so cute. I love hearing things like that. :D
  10. Just the one for us at the moment. But I would really love to get Indy a little sister at some stage.
  11. Yep sounds pretty normal. Indy started loosing his teeth at around 4/5 months. The first tooth he lost came out when we were at the dog beach and he was playing quite rough with another dog and there was lots of blood. Yep - I had a bit of a panic and was all worried  Anyway after that I started finding his cute little doggie teeth all round the house.

I would think that you can register a business name (ie. Pepsi Cola), that way no one else is allowed to use that name. However if Kennels are not considered a business and don't need to be registered as such then of course there will probably be kennels with similar if not the same name. The US is such a huge place that I would think it wouldn't be uncommon to get duplicate names. Do Kennels need to be registered as a business?
  13. ahwwww.... they look so proud :D And I thought the holes in my backyard were bad - now they don't seem to as much
  14.  Very funny
  15. Yep, I've got the biggest one you can get here in Australia without getting one custom made. It has an aluminum frame rather than plastic so it is quite sturdy. However it needs to go in the wooden door rather than the screen door so we just took our screen door off. I believe the brand is Staywell and I got the extra large size. Judging from the size of your dogs you could probably just go with the large. I had to do a fair bit or ringing around before I could find someone that stocked the extra large.
  16. I have heard that introducing a new pup away from the home is a good idea. They way when they first meet, the existing dog can just concentrate on checking out the new dog rather than thinking "she's in my house", "that's my toy she's touching", etc...... and hopefully his first reaction won't be to be possesive of what he thinks is his stuff. then when it's time to go home he should think "cool - mum's bringing my new friend too" Also remember that when you buy new toys for the new pup, buy new ones for Ben too otherwise he may get jealous.
  17. Am I the only one who gets sick of saying "It's not a muzzle!!" ?
  18. more pic's, more pic's...... she is just so cute I can't see too many pictures :D
  19. YOU KNOW YOU HAVE A BIG DOG WHEN... * The sound of running water makes you jump up and yell, "OUTSIDE!" * You tell your dog to sit, and he backs up until he finds a chair. * It takes 3 people to get your dog on the scale at the vets. * You walk your dog and everyone knows him by name, but you have no idea who these people are. * You can carry on a conversation with a dog's muzzle firmly in your crotch. * You own a dog capable of pulling someone from a port-a-potty. * You carry a tape measure with you when shopping for a new vehicle. * You keep at least one color-coded "drool towel" in every room of your house. * After banishing your husband, the snoring in your bedroom still keeps you awake. * You are hiking with a friend who later suggests that you ought to have an environmental impact statement done on your dog. * Visitors enter the house holding their privates protectively. * You toss your dog a ball and cringe when he almost hits his head on the top of the doorway. * You take your dog for a ride and he rests his head on your arm, causing you to make random right turns. * You have given up on water dishes and you just use the bathtub. * Your two dogs decide to play in the house, and they end up pulling the ceiling fan down, for the second time. * You have to move over when brushing your teeth because your dog wants a drink. * You show a picture of your dogs and kids together, and the first person you point out is your dog. * While stopped at a stop light, everyone stares as your car rocks back and forth because the dog is panting out the window. * You go to vacuum your car and most of the fur is up there on the ceiling. * You've learned to force a smile when asked "do you have a saddle for that thing?" * The monthly dog budget exceeds your home mortgage payment. * Your veterinarian has been able to put in a swimming pool, build a large home, buy jet skis and a vacation home in Florida. * You have had to train your dog not to lick dishes, and the dishes are in the sink. * The donuts you put on top of the refrigerator are gone when you get home and your dog has powdered sugar on his nose. * Your dog can see what you're cooking and he tries to assist you in the preparation. * You're holding him straddled between your legs when the doorbell rings and you find yourself quickly transported straight to the front door. * The pizza delivery people tell you to meet them at the end of the sidewalk. * Your dog stands in your lap and reaches over you to stick his head in the drive-through window at McDonalds and nearly gives the cashier a heart attack when she turns around to give you your change. * You purchase a large screen TV and you still can't see the program when he stands in front of the television.

  21. Love it!!! Gave me a good giggle  I can definitely relate to quite a few of those
  22. I use the halti on Indy and it is fantastic. If I could guarantee I would never see another dog then he would be fine on his normal flat collar, it's just when we encounter another dog he goes nuts and wants to go over to it. Not agressive just wants to play  When this happens he is just too strong. The other day we at my b/f's parents place and as I was only taking him from the front door to the car I just put his leash on his normal collar, well one of their neighbours dogs was loose  and was running round in their drive way, Indy went to take off after it and dragged me down 4 steps before I could get my balance enough to anchor myself and stop him  so without it on a normal walk I would have no hope. Hopefully as he gets older his interest in other dogs will die down so we can then go back to the standard collar.
  23. What a lovely post. I am so glad that everything is going so well. Mystic sounds like a little angel  Keep posting those pic's, the one from the other day was just gorgeous.
  24. Thanks for the info. After asking around a few various places, I've already decided not to go with the yearly injection - every person has said something negative so that's enough for me to keep away from it. The HeartGard chewable tablets have been going fine so will probably stay with them. However, my main concern was that when he hits 45kg (approx 100lbs) I am going to have to combine two tablets from different weight ranges and wanted to make sure that this was just as effective. Does anyone else have large dogs that they do this with?
  25. At present we have been using a product called HeartGard 30 Plus as a heartworm preventative. This is a chewable tablet that comes in weight ranges. Indy has been on the largest weight range for a while now, however it only covers dogs up to 45kg. As he is now 40kg, I'm sure he will be over the 45kg limit in the next few months. Once he hits 45kg I can then add another tablet from one of the smaller weight ranges to cover the excess weight. Or as an alternative to the HearGard, the receptionist at the Vet surgery suggested a once yearly injection, which can be done at the same time as his yearly vaccinations. I haven't had a chance to talk to the vet yet about the injections and wanted to find out what methods other people use.
