I also wanted to get a second dog so that Indy could have a little sister. I wanted him to have another dog to play with all the time. However we are just not set up to have a second dog at the moment. I am sure Macy is fine and very content the fact that you are so worried shows you care deeply for her, so I am sure you spoil her and she gets plenty of attention.

Lucky Chaos, Not trying to criticise but I'm not sure that a run is the best thing. Heavy exercise straight after eating can cause bloat, which can be deadly. A good link on it is http://www.canismajor.com/dog/bloat.html I know large dogs are more susceptible but I would rather be safe than sorry. The rule I go by is no exercise for 3 hours after eating and no feeding for an hour after exercise. With them bingeing like that I would probably wait a fair bit longer. Kiger, does fresh pumpkin work just as well? I have never seen canned pumpkin so was going to buy some fresh pumpkin steam it then mash it.

I love the idea of clicker training however the training club I go to doesn't do it :( I was curious about one thing though, if you were in a class situation with lots of dogs and everyone was clicking wouldn't the dogs get confused over which click is for them?
-
I don't have much experience with Pit Bulls never having actually seen one in real life :o so thought I would probably be totally off track. So I was a little surprised when I got the second one right first try. The first once confused me a little as I really couldn't decide on what I thought was the pit because not of them looked right - but that was the right answer too.

Aurora, I think it's a fantastic idea, go for it!! -
Well done gutsogirl!!!! My blood always starts to boil when I walk past the local pet shop that sells puppies and kittens. I am now even angrier - they now have a sign in their window that says something along the lines of do you have puppies and kittens that you would like us to buy from you and find good homes for?   All this does is encourge Joe and Mary to breed their dog so get some cash grrrrrrr.

   oh you poor thing I can imagine how embarrased you must have been. Though got to admit I couldn't stop laughing when I read you post.... sorry

Indy loves the hose too, he gets all excited and launches himself at the stream of water. I normally come inside saturated

What kind of animal was your dog in its previous life?
Malamum replied to imported_nea's topic in Everything about dogs
Indy would have been a horse - a show pony. When he take him for a walk he literally prances for the first little bit, head up as high as he can get it, tail up and prances along as if to say look at me, look at me -
I would try ignoring him. When he does it tell him no, make him stop and then ignore him for a few minutes. Walk away and do something that doesn't involve him. Good luck

Indy doesn't bark when someone knocks at the door either but will go with who ever answers it to check out who is there. However the other week my b/f went out and as I was going to pick him up I was having a nap on the lounge waiting for him to ring. He however got a lift home and apparently was knocking on the door for quite a few mintues. I was fast asleep and had no idea someone was at the door. Well in this case Indy gave the deepest bark I have ever heard and in fact sounded quite menacing - it jolted me awake straight away. We think in this case he barked because I was unaware there was someone at the door :niewiem:

Don't tease us like that. I opened the post expecting to see a picutre :( Hurry up and learn so we can see lots of pictures :D

My breeder had already had all the pups microchipped before they went to their homes so Indy was already done. Even if it wasn't the law to have it done, I still would. Like Aurora said it give me great peace of mind to know that if (god forbid) Indy every ended up at the pound or being taken to a vets office etc I am only a phone call away.

That is soooo cute :D

That's great news :D

Indy gets: Indiana, Indy, Ind, In, malamonster, pumpkin, sweet heart, beatle bum (I have no idea where that came from but it's stuck :o )

Sounds like a good idea, unfortunatley I don't have a digital camera so I never have any recent pictures and can't just go take one then post it :(

I think this board is a great place. Everyone is very nice, actually care about each other and offer genuine advice.

Courtnek, I am really sorry it didn't work out with Theo. :( I can understand your frustration :x I think not letting someone have a dog becuase they work is very unrealistic. If all shelters only ever allowed homes that had someone home all day to have a dog then a lot of dogs would be missing out on going to loving, caring homes. Obviously it is better for the dog if someone is home, however in this day and age I think it is unrealistic. Unfortunatley the cost of living requires most familes to be dual-income households and of course that would totally rule out a single person having a dog as they would need to work to live and to pay for the care of their dog :-? Both my b/f and I work full time and we are away from home for most of the day Mon-Fri. Does this mean we should not be allowed to have a dog? I don't think it should. I hate being away from him that much but there is not much we can do about it. When ever we are home he is inside and treated as part of the family and on weekends we very rarely do things that don't involve him or go places that he can't come. See if the shelter will let you have Theo on a trial run and say they are welcome to come and observe him in your home environment to see how he is getting along.

Congratulations and well done!!! How old is Kato?

Johnny, I'm not sure who you are and if your intention was to cause trouble but your post was unkind and totally unnecessary. The situation for StarFox must be hard enough as it is without people making cruel comments like that. We are here to offer advice and support - not to upset people further. StarFox has been given some great advice by everyone here so I actually have a question regarding dogs taking stuff they aren't supposed to like hairbands, clothes etc..... When Indy takes stuff he isn't supposed to if he is within reach I will tell him to give and take it out of his mouth. However most of the time he thinks it's a great game and runs away and I don't have much hope of catching him. So I tend to get some food and tell him to trade - he gives me what he has and I give him the food. This works and I like the idea because it isn't punishing him, however I am worried that he may think he is being rewarded for taking the item and therefore I am actually encouraging him to take stuff?? Any input on this would be great. StarFox - not trying to take over your thread here but since it was along the same lines and an issue you are having with Zebra I thought it was a question that a few of us my benefit from.

Option C really sounds like the best bet. I'm luck that I live close enough to my parents that when we go away they get to puppy sit. Though they tend to get towards the end of their tether after having a lively malamonster for a week  Last time they had him my Dad was building a garden shed in the backyard and Indy ran off with and ate the plans so dad had no instructions to follow. I thought it was funny but Dad wasn't overly impressed  Hope you have a great time in Montanna

Oh Starfox I can just imagine how distressing the situation must be for you. You have been given some fantastic advice so I have nothing really to add, but just wanted to say hang in there. With patience and dedication to Zebra's training it will all work out.

I don't know much about showing so I am not sure what a 5 point major is - but it sounds very good. CONGRATULATIONS KATO :laola: :laola: :laola: Does it make up for the window sills?
