Iceyshiver21, I just happened to see this topic on another board as someone's dog had licked a toad... :sabber: Here is some info that was posted Amphibians_ frogs, toads, and salamanders_ may have poison glands that can cause intestinal distress in dogs. The common toad (Bufo americanus) often found in backyards in spring and summer, has two glands at the back of its head that produce a toxin that irritates mucous membranes. Most dogs instinctively avoid toads; those that don't learn quickly to leave the warty critters alone. The Bufo toxin can cause the dog to foam at the mouth; if the dog swallows the toad, he will most likely vomit it up in short order as the toxin irritates esophageal and stomach linings. http://beestie.tripod.com/wildlife.htm However, the venom is highly toxic to pets. Dogs, which are the most likely pet to come into contact with a toad, have a high probability of dying if untreated. The Colorado River toad and the giant toad (also called the marine toad) are the two most common venomous toads found in the United States. The Colorado River toad can be found along large streams in the southwestern United States, from Arizona to southern California (and Mexico). This toad wouldn

Adorable :buzi:

Loved it, especially the bit about the stairs not being a race track.... we seem to have that issue here :D
-
Sounds like lots of fun. I love the bit where you said they were pulling each others skin... how cute.
I thought it was you that got a new puppy at first BK!
Me too!! Though any new puppy is exciting. He sounds so cute and I can't wait to see pictures either.

If the competition was for the naughtiest dog then I think I could win quite easily
-
hmmmmm, it would be fun if we all entered but I don't know what I would be able to put on the video other than Indy misbehaving :-? Also, what is the prize?

:o :o :o Who would have thought - fake balls for dogs!!! Thanks for the info Horsefeathers it was very interesting. You really do learn something new every day. Though I must admit I personally think it is quite silly and unnecessary but if it encourages more people to neuter their dogs then what harm can it do. I do have a bit of trouble understanding the mindset of people who don't neuter or spay their dogs because they think it's cruel. Their hearts are obviously in the right place but they really have no idea.
she said that it would cost 500 dollars to neuter the dog because his testicles hadn't dropped. (that dosn't sound right to me! 500 dollars for a neuter?!?!!? can someone explain that one to me?)
Neutering a dog with retained testicles is much more complex than a standard neuter. They actually have to go into the abdomen and find the testicle(s) - it can apparenty be quite invasive, depening on where abouts the lost nugget is. So I guess that is why is costs more.

You'll never guess what happened while at the butchers :)
Please ask if the dogs have been OFA'd. Since Labs are prone to hip dysplasia you want to try to get the healthiest puppy you can.
I would take this one step further and say don't just ask, make sure they have the certificates and that they will give you copies. -
Indy also came from a breeder. I chose this route for the following reasons (in no particular order of importance) 1. I definatley wanted an Alaskan Malamute 2. I wanted a puppy 3. This is my first dog and I wanted to train him myself. I don't think I am experienced enough to correct bad habbits that someone else has instilled - especially with such a dominant breed. 4. Health issues. I wanted the healthiest puppy I could get. I would be heartbroken to have a dog go through the pain of HD. I know there are never any absolute guarantees but going on the Sire and Dam's OFA results I would say the odds are in Indy's favour.

Congratulations!!!! You must be so excited. Is this Kennel within driving distance from your place? If so go and meet the people and check them and their dogs out. Their web site looks great and they seem to have all the right info but nothing beats the gut instinct you have when meeting people in person. Again - Congratulations :D

What about some shade cloth or something similar, then like Michelle suggested tie some ribbon or string around the edges and then tie it to the pen. If you can get some cloth that is not too heavy and fairly transparent some light should still get through then the pen won't feel so confined either.

I feed Indy Innova, basically becuase it's the only good quality kibble I can find here. I generally mix it with something like yoghurt or pureed fruit or a raw egg etc or he will just eat it plain - he is not a fussy eater at all. I think they are both good foods and Roxy should do well on either one. If you can find the Innova web site they have a comparison wizzard which compares the ingredients of different foods, it is quite interesting. (Unfortuntatly I am at work at the moment so don't have time to search for the link)

Since we've had Indy we actually haven't had a really bad storm so not sure how he would react. :niewiem:

Glad Tessa is ok. :kciuki: From what I have read you well and truly know about it if your dog has bloat - they are not happy campers at all. :( I am one that is very paranoid about it though - I am so strict with the exercise and eating rule.

Hi Abker17, I have been following along and would really lover to hear how things are going once you swap Abby and Crakcers roles around. I agree with Courtnek, if Abby starts to get stuff first she hopefully won't feel the need to challenge Cracker. Keep us posted.

A job well done Spiritsmom, the new family sound fantastic. I can imagine how hard it would be to them them go though.

I love hearing about Ben, he sounds like such a character.
