Since Australia is also a rabies free country we have very similar quarintine laws. To me this is horrible and becuase of it I will never put my dog in a position that it has to go into quarintine. However on the flip side I definatley don't want rabies here either.

I am a bit late in on this one - not sure how I missed those adoroable pictures when you first posted them :hmmmm: Anyway - they are just gorgeous and I am glad we will still get to see pictures of Lilly and Boglin as they grow up. PS - I just love the name Lilly.

    That punishment is no where near severe enough!!!!! I really don't think I could be an RSPCA inspector or the like..... I think I would have ended up having 10 minutes alone in the bathroom with Miss Potterton and she wouldn't have looked very pretty by the time she came out. I'm not a violent person and have never hit anyone in my life but I don't think I could control myself if I actually came face to face with a person like that. Also that is a really nice set of values she is teaching her kids - I can just imagine what they are going to turn out like.

I know you are worried and it will be hard but I wouldn't reccomend that you sit with you dog while he eats otherwise you may be setting yourself up for a pattern that is very hard to break. If he gets used to it now he will ALWAYS want you sitting with him.

Well said Courtnek!! There are just too many people out there who have a serious lack of common sense.

I have never seen a Jamican goat either - but the image is pretty funny  Courtnek just gave you great advice on recall training and I would work on this. However I would also work on the stay command to stop him slipping out in the first place. Every time Indy and I are about to go outside I tell him to sit and wait. I go out the door first and he sits and waits at the open door till I tell him ok, then off we go. When I was a kid we had a dog that used to try to slip out the door at every opportunity. You couldn't even open it an inch without her trying to force her way out, so when I got my own dog I really wanted to avoid that behaviour so I have really worked on the stay command. Now I can now go in and out the door freely, open the gate long enough to wheel the garbage bin out etc... without worrying that Indy is going to try to get out. Of course if the door is left open and unattened he will obviously go out but he will hold his stay long enough for people to get in and out of the door easily and do every day tasks. 6 months is still very young so be patient. If you work on the stay you should get to the point where he does not try to get out every time the door is opened. Good luck. :D

The more I am reading on clicker training the more I am keen to start using it. As I mentioned earlier my training club doesn't do clicker training. However I think I might start doing it at home and then ask them if they mind if I bring the clicker along to classes. If I am the only one using a clicker do you think it will distract the other dogs?

I'm kind of in the same boat as I have just recenlty switched Indy from Eukanumba to Innova and have noticed the same thing with his stools. With the Euk they were very firm however when I switched to Innova quite a few have been fairly mushy - not every time though. I have just finished the first bag of Innova and noticed they are getting better (no where near as mushy) so I am going to keep with the Innova and see how we go. I was assuming it was just taking a little while for his system to get used to the new food. I say stick with the Wellness a little while longer to give Roxy's body time to adjust.

  oops meant Nancy.... sorry Mental Note - check posts more thoroughly before hitting submit

Indy also lies in the "frog" position. Though he does lie on his back more often (more chance of tummy rubs that way  )

Interesting... though even if correct would only be relevant for some countries or areas. Here in Australia our winter isn't cold enough to make a difference.
-
Just to add to the things we do...... I drive along in winter with the car windows down freezing to death because Indy likes it and he gets too hot if I put the heater on

Thanks Nacy, that info was great!

Good luck. Let us know how she goes.

I was thinking of keeping him confined to a seperate section of the house but he HATES to miss out on anything and boy can he howl and carry on when he thinks he is. Mum and Dad's really is the best place for him.
He NEEDS to be entertained, allright.....in a 6x9 jail cell, or a rubber room, with a straightjacket on.......
He need to go to jail alright but have some of the other inmates use him for entertainment.....

That is so cute. Indy also bites and pull on his tail, I tell him if he is not careful he will pull it off.

Kiwi, my b/f's B'day is on the 12th. I don't feel mean about him sleeping over at my parents, he goes there all the time so has no issues with being left there. I kind of feel mean for making him miss out on the celebration though. It sounds silly but he is part of our family so I feel that he should be part of the party too and not be left out :(
-
In a few weeks we are having a party for my b/f's 30th birthday but I don't think it's a good idea for Indy to stay home that night (we have about 50 people coming and he will just get too hyper) so he is going to have a sleep over at my parents place. I feel mean - like he is being banished or something :( especially since mum and dad are going to be at the party and won't be home most of the night.
The only thing I ever had trouble with was holding the clicker, the treats and the dog leash at the same time...I'm not a very good multi-tasker
Ohh Starfox I have the same problem, so I bought this training pouch off the net http://www.polapaws.com.au/bdtp.htm I'm sure you can get something similar in the US.

Scroll down about 15 posts and read the one titled Heart Worm Preventative. It’s long but a lot of people have shared their experiences with the Proheart injection – unfortunately the majority of them are bad. Please keep us posted and let us know how your dog is.
