So I thought to myself, "Max is getting a little bored. These squeaky plush toys look great. Why don't I get a few?" And so began my descent into squeaker hell! As I am typing this, piercing squeaks are emanating from the bedroom. It is now 8:30 in the evening and the squeaking began at 2:00 in the afternoon. Somehow I have to trick Max into leaving the harmless looking $2.00 rubber ball with the squeaker alone long enough for me to hide the cursed thing in the closet so my husband and I can get some sleep!! It all began several days ago with plush toys that have the squeaker bladder inside. He really had a great time with them for a few days, but quickly went through FOUR of them, ripping out the seams, pulling out the stuffing, locating and "killing" the squeaker. So today while at Discout Pet Center I purchased two more plush toys and two soft rubber squeaker balls. He liked the purple and red crab and the plush cheeseburger squeaker toys. BUT WHEN HE SAW THE SQUEAKER BALL AND MADE IT SQUEAK HE TOTALLY FREAKED OUT! "Fantastic! Wonderful! Finally a ball that makes noises like a squirrel!" I can imagine that thought flashing through his mind. He has been continually worrying this ball, carrying it about, guarding it, and squeaking it virtually non-stop! Ah, finally a lull in the noise. He must be resting; gearing up for the next onslaught! Perhaps I can sneak up on him and spirit the ball away! :o He's been acting like a hyperactive toddler!!!! Sound familiar, anyone? (Ooops! While I finished typing this, squeaking has started again!)

Rott'N'Pit - After I saw Dreydin's first picture, I signed up with the picture hosting site just so I could see the rest. Oh, he is loverly!!!! :multi: I really like his coloring and markings and the expressions he gets on his face as he studies the camera!

I think Calliope is a beautiful name!! :D

A shot of Echo S. and his weightlifting would be so cool! If he keeps this up you might have to start calling him Echo Schwartzenegger (spelling?)! Hey, I know, you could play the "Rocky" theme for him as he lifts weights! It is Saturday morning, and I am on my second cup of coffee!

I will be thinking of all your furkids who are going in for the big fix! Let us know how things go. Just to reassure you, I have never had a bad experience with a neuter or spay of any of my pups! It's always been smooth sailing all the way! Good luck to you all!

He's a Lucky dog, no matter what you name him! It's just great that he found YOU, instead of some other person that would just have let him stay alone and homeless at the park!!! :B-fly:

My rottie Max is afraid of thunder and lightning. He comes to me for reassurance until the storm is over. This is a direct result of being home alone with his "brother" Ben during a tremendous straight-line wind storm that uprooted or snapped off at least twenty trees on our property (two of which narrowly missed our house). Ever since that fateful day, he has been very apprehensive about even regular rainy days. He will be headed outside to do his business, slow down at the laundry room, and hesitantly peer outside. It takes encouragement for him to go outside. Last night we had a good lightning and thunder show and Max spent the evening plastered by me on the couch, panting and drooling! Poor boy! Ben, the saint, was oblivious.....as usual!

I wish I had some really cool story about how my guys got their names, but sadly, their namings are unremarkable. Ben already had his name when we rescued him, and Max - he just looked like a "Max"! :D

 What a long list......

No, no, no! Pumkin, you don't sound like a loon! Pumpkin and Priarie Gurl, you've got some cool names for your furkids! I love this thread! All the posters are so creative at naming and nicknaming!   I'm getting lots of good ideas for future use! Ooops, hope you don't mind....

At my sisters I was finally able to catch the episode on Animal Planet about the humane officers in Detroit. I was stunned by their statement that it is estimated that in the city of Detroit alone, there were 500.000 pit bulls! I simply could not get my mind around that number. It was said they have the law about euthanizing them because they believe if they are adopted out they will be back in the dog fighting pits again. It was just dreadful to see the officers take them in to be euthanized. Young healthy dogs....some with scars already! Our local shelter (southern Michigan) does not automatically euthanize pit mixes. I have recently seen a couple of pit mixes up for adoption at our shelter. I have not, however, seen full blooded pit bulls at the shelter. I wonder if these laws are passed more commonly in larger cities where dog fighting is more problematic? What a waste!    :motz: :motz: :motz:

Sadly, no middle names....just nicknames: Ben: The Benster Benjy-Man Benjamin (when he is in trouble) Bennieboy (when he needs baby talk) Goomer Dog (when he does something goofy) Max: The Maxtor Poor Max-i-well (when he has a painfull day - arthritis) Maxwell (when he is in trouble) Maxer-Dog (when he over-extends himself) Doofus Dog (when he does something really silly) These are SECRET NAMES! Not said when other people are around, since I don't want to really reinforce the fact that I am dotty about my guys!

True female efficiency! My boys just bumble around kind of like a couple of bachelors in their own little "pad". One is reminded of Felix and Oscar, the Odd Couple. Max (rottie - Felix) is usually the first to give any kind of alert. He is sincere and earnest in his alarms. He barks so enthusiastically that his front feet come right off the floor, meanwhile Ben (saint - Oscar) shuffles in, looks out whichever window Max is having a barking fit at, and gives one or two big barks; kind of like he feels an obligation to bark but doesn't really have the heart for it! Then he shuffles off disinterested. I wonder what a female rottie or saint would think of them? Probably...."What a couple of idiots! Are squirrels really worth barking at?" I really enjoy reading stories about the unusual interactions of your furkids! IMHO, Anyone who doesn't think dogs are thinkers has never really watched their interactions. They are a source of endless amusement!

Thanks Roo! It's true that things are not always as they seem; thanks for the reminder. It is easy to lose faith when times are tough.... :)

Lena was beautiful....So sorry for your loss!

Will do! I looked just now, but it's not there yet. I'll check back. Thanks

Well, you can't FORCE a dog to pull! If they don't want to, they won't. People have varying opinions on lots of things! Sorry folks were pirating your pics. :(

Super Advice, Courtnek! :kciuki: Speaking as a cat owner: Cats are often left to run loose. I believe that cat owners should shoulder the same level of responsibility of keeping their cats inside, or outside only with close supervision that dogs owners do. My cats are totally inside cats. For their own safety and my peace of mind.
