1. Wonderful! Very clever and what a good little puppy.
2. I do think there is a place for responsible breeders, they provide us with some excellent companion animals and working partners. I just wish there was a way to stop ALL irresponsible breeding. I just don't think that will happen. :(
3. Agreed. The elderly, young children, those with compromised immune systems are at risk but these same people may have problems with DEET for the same reasons, its tricky.
4. I still think the whole West Nile thing is overblown in general. http://forum.dogomania.com/viewtopic.php?t=14448&highlight=nile
5. That ProPlan Formulae sounds alot better than every other one I've seen. I still don't trust ProPlan myself but again that formulae is about 10X better than most of ProPlans, nice find.
6. Damn I wish I was already on my rural property, I'd take a pair. Poor things, most of them will be greatly unsuited to regular doggy life.
7. I try to do one meal/day home prepared cooked (ground beef, chicken and turkey, egg with shell, sometimes a touch of tinned tuna or other leftover fish I have prepared for me earlier, wild and brown rice, frozen peas, carrots, whatever veggies I have around, supplement from vet for home prepared meals.) For treats fruit and some veg and a dollap of yogurt and Benny Bully liver treats. The other meal/day I try to server Innova or sometimes Canidae. Lately cash has been short so I have been doing Canidae and even had to resort to one bag of Presiden'ts Choice Lamb. So I picked the one with Innova and Canidae as it most closely averages what I feed, although in an ideal world I'd like to do all home prepared.
8. If you feed more than one type, choose the one you feed the most of or the one you would feed if you could just feed one. As there are not enough options to poll all foods individually I grouped them with similar foods as best I could. If you would like to post your specific brand/type and why you like to feed it to your dogs that would be great too.
9. Oh what a cute little squidgyface. :D
10. Czech lines of GSD and maybe some others are still quite strong and healthy. They have been bred almost exclusively for work. A half decent Czech GSD will start at $1200 US before shipping but will likely be from a line with all the dogs Schutzhund titled and hips and other health checks done.
11. I would suggest appropriate sized crates and leashing the dogs to you or watching one at a time like a hawk when they are not crated and a very rigid schedule. See the training sticky for more info or PM me. Retraining is hard and once one dog starts slipping the chances that the other will increase. You must be having such a hard time of it, its nice that you have that heated/cooled shop though.
12. Ah, I was confused, they may be putting her down for temperment, not for being pregnant. Anyway, definately call one of those groups because the poor dog is much more likely to fail temperment test while pregnant.
13. Strange posts seem to be out of order for me.
14. http://www.solidgoldhealth.com/stores/ Product Description Dry food formula made with Beef, Barley, Brown Rice & Sweet Potatoes. 15. Lada Daddy - If you want a healthy dog food with a really nice high fat/protien look at Solid Gold's Mmillenia. No byproduct, no corn, no added salt or suger, no apparent problem with licking or tarter, it is more expensive than proplan but you do feed less. I had nice results with it for my super active BC - plays tug for 33 min straight, never lets go, can lift him off the ground and then he goes out and fetches and wades for 1/2 hour. I'll post the store locator or something in just a bit.
16. Smooshie - I find the same thing about Canidae and other specialty dog foods, but Canidae in paticular. You may pay a teensy bit more per bag but you usually feed a fair portion less per day so it works out to cost the same or less. Also I agree about the ingredient splitting, corn, by product, salt etc. just imagine eating that yourself, it would be something like eating KD with SPAM everyday.
17. Perhaps you could suggest a change to operating procedures so that pregnant dogs that come in are desexed pretty much immediately. Would that not solve the problem of dogs being put down for being pregnant? As for the current situation I would try contacting one of these groups and see if they can help. http://muttcats.com/shelters/missouri.htm If it is not really late the dog may still be able to be desexed as well.
18. Hope it goes well. Coastie - I've had to go with a cheaper food now and then, it happens. Take a look at President's Choice Lamb dog food, it's cheap, not great but not Ol'Roy horrible either. I generally prefer Innova; President's Choice is a far cry from that but I do my best and sometimes money gets tight - like having to replace the fridge and do $700 car repair unexpectedly in the same month. :niewiem:
19. I guess you could try haveing a very brisk 1/2 hour play session that ends 1/2 hour before bed. If that doesn't work you could try a spray bottle or Horsefeathers!' bitter apple method. http://forum.dogomania.com/viewtopic.php?t=14721&highlight=bitter
20. Buy here a dog training book as a new puppy gift sorta thing. Pick a simple but good one - do not give her dog training for dummies, she'll likely take it the wrong way. Tell her something like - Gee I was so impressed to see all the training you were doing. Maybe someday you'll even be able to do some obedience competition or something. Anyway, I thought seeing as how you were doing all that training anyway you might find the book useful.
21. I would suggest you look into: Innova Wellness (Old Mother Hubbard) Wysong Solid Gold Canidae Flint River or carefully researched home prepared foods. You have to buy them at a pet specialty store but each of them will have a store locator on their websites.
22. She must be super special to have been pursued by you for a year. Congrats! :smilecolros:

24. Just to explain - generally when someone here asks why you breed YOUR dog or what is so special about YOUR dog what they are looking for is this: What about your dog is exceptional? What special trait(s) are you breeding for? What fault or weakness in your breed are you working to eliminate? Do you have some special distinction such as X generations without genetic disorder X plus dogs with excellent temperment and/or X awards for obedience or weightpull or agility or something? Breeding is needed, although at a great reduced rate than it is currently occuring at, but, as there are so many dogs with so many questions responsible breeders aught to be breeding to better their breed not just continue their breed.
25. Ah, I was thinking voluntary but I guess that's a dream world. Maybe we should just enforce a law that all breedings must be registered with some central group and insist on only 3 litters for purebreads and 1 for other dogs (preferably none but I don't think that would happen.) Fines and cuts of the fine for those who report would help.
