The site mentioned above states the following about Shepadoodles:
Good for families with allergies that want a large dog.
I have an idea, if you want a large breed dog that is less likely to upset allergies get a . . . STANDERD POODLE!

I'm just glad for cold winters up here. :o

DogPaddle replied to Horsefeathers!'s topic in Everything about dogs
Very nice. Glad Pauly is coming along nicely. -
Is this it http://www.thepetpantry.com/petfood.asp If so here is their generic dog food INGREDIENTS: Brewers Rice, Chicken Meal, Wheat Bran, Wheat, Lamb Meal, Poultry Fat (Preserved with Natural Mixed Tocopherols, Citric Acid and Rosemary Extract), Dried Whole Egg, Chicken Liver Digest, Dried Beet Pulp, Salt, Flax Seed, Brewers Dried Yeast, Vitamin A-Acetate, D-Activated Animal Sterol (Source of Vitamin D3), Vitamin E Supplement, Vitamin B12 Supplement, Riboflavin Supplement, Niacin Supplement, Choline Chloride, Folic Acid, Biotin, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Thiamine Mononitrate, Dehydrated Kelp, Polysaccharide Complexes of Zinc, Iron, Manganese, Copper and Cobalt, Sodium Selenite, Yucca Schidigera Extract, Ethylene Diamine Dihydriodide, Calcium Carbonate. Starts with non-meat ingredient, three non-proteinds in the top 5 ingredients, unidentified "poultry" fat, salt as an ingredient and not low on the list either, what is d-activated animal sterol exactly. I, myself, would not feed this food.

Time Sensitive - APBT/SBT Need Info on Differences
DogPaddle replied to DogPaddle's topic in Amstaffs & Pit Bulls
Thanks for the links. They have gone back to deciding not to take any pit or pit like dog. I'm sure the recent events in London have affected their decision. However, they will refer to other groups and I am now an official volunteer so I have gathered some info on pit and pit related dogs and will see if I can work on them slowly. -
Never even heard of Chicken Lover's. Hope its going well.

Time Sensitive - APBT/SBT Need Info on Differences
DogPaddle replied to DogPaddle's topic in Amstaffs & Pit Bulls
Thanks, great links. I have more time now, they've put off the pit issue till next meeting, it may get its own meeting. So any info on any pit related breed, paticularly anything that would encourage them to take them for rehoming would be helpful. I've got the beginnings of a sortof presentation for them. Doesn't someone on here do a pit rescue in SW Ontario? -
So my mum works with an animal rescue group but they do not take pits for rehoming due to liability. However, they are reviewing the policy and may start to take Staffordshire Bull Terriers if they can be convinced that they are not "pit" bulls. I know we might like to see them rehome any animal regardless of breed but right now that won't happen. So what are the historic/academic/breeding/lines differences between the two? Anyone have any good site references. Meeting on this issue is at 9:00 this evening but this issue should not come up till 10:00ish. I just found out, sorry.

K - Yay! for Snoop too. Carol - Kavik is just over 2 1/2, maybe its an adolescent thing. He still needs watching though, if he gets the least bit distracted during his less interesting meal of the day he leaves it. At least now he will occaisionally bother to let Zaphod know he MIGHT come back for it later. Needless to say Zaphod is not pleased with Kavik's new "interest" in food but he has gotten to a good solid but healthy weight so he'll just have to deal.
-
Some of you may remember that Kavik is not much of an eater and was definately on the twirpy side. Well we have finally got him to gain some weight. :D He finally has a thin layer of fat over him so that his spine doesn't feely boney. It was so embarrassing when I used to take him to the beach, he looked more than half starved when wet.

I lived out in the country for a while. No one had fenced yards and some of their dogs did tend to stray or pack up a bit. None of them attacked people or dogs though. I wonder why your area was different? Weird. I really miss living out there :( I would have to build a fence or a big big dog run if I moved back out there though. It only takes one car or grouchy farmer with a gun . . .

I'm in London. I too wonder what this woman's credentials are. I have an appointment Saturday but I'll see about moving it, what park is the woman going to be spouting at?

Thanks HF, I'll pass it all along. :D
ok so let's say joe schmoe shih tzu owner is walking down the street. he has taken no precaution (direct stop, big stick, treats) in case of a meeting with a strange and aggressive dog.
Do you generally take precautions and cary a big stick when you walk your dog?

Mum's neighbour has a small white poodle. Its fur around eyes, mouth and a bit around feet are discoloured. She has her groomed once every 3-4 months and bathes her once every 4-6 weeks. She does wipe away eye goobers and has started wiping her mouth after dinner. She feeds Eagle Brand dry kibble with IAMS canned (I've discussed IAMS with her already guys.) Any suggestions. I know from HF's pics of Perry, Pauly and Peanut that its possible to keep them pretty white. What is this woman doing wrong?

Actually there are a number of places in Ontario that have BSL http://www.goodpooch.com/BSL/cdnbsl.htm Kitchener and Waterloo: Both communities have Dangerous Dog bylaws and have banned 'Pit Bulls'. Ban does not include Bull Terrier or English Bull Terrier. Lakeshore: The following breeds are PROHIBITED within the city limits: 'Pit Bulls', American Pit Bull Terriers, Staffordshire Bull Terriers, American Staffordshire Terriers, Bull Terriers, Presa Canarios, and any cross thereof. Midland: The following breeds/crosses must be MUZZLED at all times while on municipal property: 'Pit Bull Terrier', American Pit Bull Terrier, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, Rottweiler, any member of the Mastiff dog family, or any dog of mixed breed including one of the aforementioned breeds. City of Vaughn: Automatically considers 'Pit Bull Terriers', American Pit Bull Terriers, and any mixed breed dog crossed with a 'pit bull' to be aggressive. License fees are up to five times higher for these breeds/crosses. Ironically, the City of Vaughn also automatically considers Staffordshire Bull Terriers and American Staffordshire Terriers to be aggressive UNLESS they are registered with either the Canadian or American Kennel Clubs. Additionally, London has been debating BSL since at least March 1998 I was checking the cities site to get information from them directly but it seems they have been quite lax in updating their website.

Strange - generally its difficult to sue for any real money over dog bites here and as health care is free most people don't bother. Additionally if this is a first bite incident ACC here usually just uses a muzzle order (dog must be muzzled when outside owners home.) If they did decide to order the dog destroyed I wouldn't be surprised that they gave the owner the option to have it done at a vet of her choice. Saves them money and as there have been some nasty allegations of them performing intercardial puncture without aenestisia (sp?) they may be trying to insulate themselves from further allegations.

What are they teaching in school these days?!?!?
DogPaddle replied to boosiebutt's topic in Everything about dogs
Good advice, telling him no and walking away (stopping playing) might work for the mouthing game to. -
I LOVE the grumbling, growling, talking, wooing thing. If Zaphod is barking and I tell him no, he stops barking and switches to a disgruntled, reproachful grumble. Also if he's at the back door and sees something that obviously needs policing he first checks to see if I'm around, if he sees me he just grumbles etc. with an occaisional quiet wuff.

There seems to be this patern of not requiring anyone to take responsibility. That's why both boys got suspensions, after all if no ONE is responsible then they both must be at fault. Of course, sometimes it is not one persons fault/responsibilty and those are the more difficult cases to manage properly but maybe that's why some schools are just not bothering. I found working in rec ect that there was a big greasy wheel thing going on. For example, if some child was bullying others he was given extra attention, special privilidges or get this - given a position of responsibility in the group. This was because maybe the child was feeling bored or unchallenged! I sympathize with bored or unchallenged kids but there are limits and why should the good kids get constantly overlooked.

Arrg! Must resist, can't extend fence this month. Brother's head would explode if I brought another dog home. Lucy and Cay are soooooooo wonderful.

I used to work daycare and recreation programs and I loved kids, but, things have changed. I do not like were people are going with kids. I had to leave that type of jobs. I still will work with teens (I have no idea why I find them more tolerable, maybe because if they really don't like your program, event, class etc. they just skip.) I once in a rec program had some difficulty with one child who was bullying a younger child, I confronted him directly and told him not to pick on her. He told me he hadn't been. As I had witnessed it I told him "Don't give me that nonsense." He was quite bright and had good verbal skills and used them extensively to manipulate things but he seemed to think of it as a game and I wasn't going to play. I had found that if I refused to play he was actually fairly co-operative, not that bad of a kid. However, my senior coworker got in a right tizzy over my comment. She felt it was very harsh and did not allow for conversation and "implied that he was lying." I actually ended up having to have a meeting with my supervizor over it. That was right near the end.
