1. I nearly got a Beagle about 2 years ago. I like the vocalizations but I was worried the neighbours wouldn't. They sure didn't like the howling Tyr (our old foster) did when we went out.
2. Good for you, excellent opportunities. I love that coat type on BCs, it doesn't seem fully rough but it sure isn't a flat smooth either. Cute.
3. Its hard when it comes time to say goodbye but it is worth it. If your parnets have no problem, I vote yes!
4. I know this must be kinda hard for you Bailysmom. Its difficult to be in this positions with family or freinds or freinds of family.
5.
However I do think that there is something for you all to learn about yourselves in this thread.
What that we shouldn't be so judgemental . . . I find some irony here.
6. Yes it is odd, I don't quite get why.
7. Hmmm hard poo, tough s#/+ there has to be a joke there somewhere. Anyway congrats!
8. I'd like to see only licenced breeders breeding but last time this was suggested some of our good, registered breeders made some objections. Do you recall what they were Courtnek? I had really thought that was a good option - would really limit BYBers, might make litters more expensive due to licencing costs but that's not so bad. I like the idea of graduated licencing as well. Anyone have any feedback.
9. Well, at least they aren't targetting people based on Dogo.
10. Cournek - Your #1 and #2 points might be just as ingnored by the bad breeders as any other law wouldn't they? I'm not trying to be argumentive. I would like to see a realistic, best case scenario worked out so I just want to make sure we get a good idea and then I'll mail Mr. Bryant a dozen copies of our suggestions.
11. Sadly no. I should remember more often. I have some of our hike at The Pinery I should post too. I am remiss.
12. I used to feed RAW but then I started cooking because like you I was worried about food poisoning. The entire time I fed fresh raw food I never had a problem and no one I know personally has had a problem with it either but I still feel more comfortable cooking for my dogs. Everyone is different. I still feed raw eggs occaisionally or put it in their still very warm food - semi cooks the eggs. People eat raw eggs. I sympathize with your low weight problems. My Border Collie Kavik was underweight for 2 1/2 years nearly. What worked for him was one meal a day really high quality kibble - either Innova or Canidae when I can't get Innova. For the other meal in the day I cooked - 1/3 ground meat, 1/3 brown rice/wild rice, 1/3 veg. mush. Ground meat - big family pack of lean or regular ground beef, reg pack of lean or extra lean ground chicken, reg pack or lean or extra lean ground turkey Veg Mush - cut up vegs and maybe an apple or something, vegs are whatever I have, often sprouts, celery, carrots, peas, beans, lettuce, tomatoe. I cut up and cook for breif time in microwave, I usually cook them in a tin of campbells healthy choice veg beef and barely soup, this softens them, then I blend them. I do this because my boys have yet to digest vegs fully unless I lightly cook and blend them. I cook them in the soup for added good stuff and flavour and any vits or mins lost in cooking may be retained in broth some. I mix it all together and feed. I give fresh fruit, veg, raw eggs, yogurt for treats and Benny Bulley Liver treats wich they go nuts for. Nutro is not a bad food but for the price you can do better, you would need to go to a specialty store though. What city do you shop out of? I'll see if I can find some good specialty shops in your area.
13. I took Zaphod to the Petsmart to have his nails trimmed (I'm a big coward but all his nails are black) and I left Kavik at home. Zaphod has almost never been without the presence of Kavik. :o He is a completely different dog when he is alone. He is calm and relatively quiet, well behaved and quite smart. I don't get it. When he's around Kavik he's an unfocused, goof. Anyway I was so proud of him and from now on I think I'll take the boys for outings seperately at least a couple times a week.
14.
I am NOT in favor of BSL but it seems that something has to be done. When we oppose BSL in our communities it would be most productive imho to propose and alternative.
I applaud this. We do need to come up with viable alternatives that municipalities will accept and be able to feasably enact.
15. Have any of you who have ever made your own cooked dog food ever thought you might just be better off eating the same thing as your dog? I have been cooking the boys food tonight and it takes some time and space so I microwaved myself one of those cardboard boxed meals. I'm looking and the crud food for me and I'm looking at the ground meat, veggies, and rice for the dogs and thinking . . . theirs would probably be healthier and . . . taste better.
16. I just read the other thread, TDG's suggestions are probably better than mine. She knows her stuff.
17. People food is usually the easiest, healthiest way to add weight. If you absolutely cannot go that way you could try feeding a bit more of a real quality dog food. Maybe one of the preformance ones designed for very active dogs such as Solid Gold Mmillenia. What are you feeding now? If you can slowly introduce people food I would do that. Some regular ground beef with a bit of rice if your dog will handle beef, in addition to regular feeding might work. Also adding some yogurt, once the food is cooled, may aid your doggies stomache upset problems.
18. For those of you who got it: Do you have your email address listed in Dogo? I ask because I don't have mine listed and I didn't get it. It would piss me off if someone started harrassing Dogoers via our posted emails on this site.
19. It's a form letter. I got the same one.
20. Seems right to me Baileysmom. So far it seems that Dogo folk prefer the higher calibre foods (no surprise there) but we don't seem to be big name branders, half the folks are buying "other" or make their own. Cool.
21. If your dog has all its shots, its a clean place with reputable, knowledgable, reliable, compassionate staff and you can afford it - DOGGIE DAYCARE ROCKS!
22. Best Wishes from me too.
23. Excellent advice Matty. You can use most herbal remedies on dogs, you may want to check online before you try anything in paticular that you don't know people have already safely given their dogs. Age shouldn't matter for herbals so long as you lower the dose. People here have safely given melatonin, peppermint, lavender and Rescue Remedy. I would start by giving 1/3 of a tablet of melatonin if you are going to give it. Rescue Remedy needs to be given a few times throughout the day. If you were going to go with peppermint and/or lavender I think you'd want to give it 10 min before bed. Use less lavender than you would peppermint or mix them 5:1 or 4:1. BTW 5:1 peppermint:lavender in loose leaf makes a great "tea" for people too.
