1. Could be all GSD its not impossible for them to be coloured like yours.
2. Some of you may recall my posts about our local Animal Care and Control here: intercardial punture without anesthetic dead dog door stop combining litters euthanizing all but one mother if multiple litters come in euthanizing any animal that displays ANY minor problem callous attitude towards animals poor lost animal return rate etc The word is getting out there about them and that is great BUT now because people don't want to turn animals into AC&C they are turning to other agencies, which might seem good on the surface. (Also AC&C has begun referring people with found animals etc to local charities so they don't have to do any work - they are on a paid contract sorta thing.) The problem has two parts. 1) AC&C does such a crappy job dealing with stray or wandering inside/outside cats that the city is really starting to have a problem with bad overpopulation. 2) With all the extra work from overpopulation, people afraid to send animals to AC&C and AC&C dumping responsibility for animals they are paid to deal with onto charities - they are swamped. My freind works with one group and they now have an operating budget of . . . . -$563. The group my mum works with has an operating budget of . . . $200. Both groups have been refusing to take new cats for a month, they have between them over 60 kittens (that's right cute, adoptable, fuzzy KITTENS) that are in foster and are not getting placed. They are nearly to the same overcapacity with dogs. Its insane! Not only is AC&C not doing its job, it is jepordizing the charities that are trying to pick up their slack! I hate them! I really hope they're contract is yanked and we get someone else soooon!
3. Chicken Soup is a nice dog food.
4. I have this problem sometimes. I have to reinforce our "territories." I get the inside half of the bed except for a corner of my pillow for Mroo - my siamese. Zaphod gets the bottom of the other side and Kavik gets the top of the other side. If I get up in the night one of the dogs will instantly take my spot, right up by the pillows.
5. I like the more . . . limited dogs. They are often sweet and they may be slow to train but once they get something they generally are too thick to test you later - they just do it. Its like Zaphod and DOWN, took him months and months and then one day he just finally got it and he's been great about it ever since. As for heeling tools - if the Halti makes Peaches crazy I wouldn't bother with the GL. If you aren't to concerned about people thinking your mean I might try the prong. Zaphod caused himself facial injury with the Halti but is perfectly happy to work on the prong.
6. Opponents of BARF do claim that E-Coli is a risk and some otherwise healthy dogs have gotten sick from eating foods (BARF, Homecooked, Canned or Kibble) infected with it. It could be from the raw stuff, there are different strains of e-coli and some are more virulant than others. However, e-coli comes from poop or at least is carried in it. With the hurricane messing with the water table and sewage it could just as easily be the culprit IMO. Just to be safe I'd want to cook all meats at least until all your doggers have been well for a good 2 weeks.
7. HF - That is exactly it - I love it but its spoooooky to me - but then I've only owned dogs who think that sitstays are short timeouts.
8. SBTs [img]http://www.westminsterkennelclub.org/breedinformation/terrier/images/stbult.jpg[/img] More Bulldoggy look, bigger head, more barrellike body, shorter legs. More dog-freindly than APBT/AST, sweet dogs. (Not that APBT/AST aren't sweet too.) I think the dog in the top pic is a little off btw.
9. I think Miami Animal Cops is . . . crap. They perform "feild euthanasia" on injured dogs found without tags. Additionally they seem comfortable with the idea of distinguishing between pet dogs and security dogs and are not opposed to placing dogs based on such. They suck, the shows presentation is overdramatic and the staff are uninspiring and are not really likable (not unlikable just not tv sort of personalities.) They spend half of each show on catching crocadiles and have a policy of euthanizing any over a certain size - which is most of those they catch.
10. I think Poodles and BCs are very close but IMO while BCs have an obsessed, problem solving sort of intellignece Poodles have a spooooky sort of intelligence. All the Poodles I met were so well behaved they were almost not dogs - for instance when told to stay they just stayed - they didn't quiver in anticipation of being told release - he just went "oh stay, no problem, stay is simple" at sat there calmly. The poodles I've seen seem to intuitively know what they are supposed to be doing where as BCs are always testing to see what paticular way they are supposed to be doing what they are told - "should I sit like this or would putting this paw forward be even more perfect."

12. NP, hope it helps, you and your doggers need a break.

14. Glad your not finding unwanted "treats" in your yard. I have to watch closely here, I found a few suspicious things in the yard. Oh and as for the bleaching - go for it - grass grows back. Good luck HF and crew.
15. HF and Chico good luck. Is there any possibility your neighbours are trying to poison your dogs or something.
16. My kind of birthday. Have fun at the park and don't work toooo hard. Happy Birthday Carol.
17. Yes sounds good as an occasional doggy/people treat. Sounds like a nice idea, have fun.
18. Superglue or its relative came into use during the Vietnam War, I think, as a quick alternative to sutures. It is safe to use and is a good addition to a first aid kit, but should really only be used if you are not going to seek other aid or are in an emergancy situation. If you have superglued a wound and then go for treatment they have to open it up again. The wound should be clean and should not have serious internal trauma - again unless you are in a serious emergancy situation. At least that is the info I have.
19. Nice choice as well.
20. How important is lineage to me? If lineage is available I am mostly concerned with soundness and health. If I'm adopting - well its not available so it doesn't matter at all.
21. Scented products are only tested for dermatological effects and recent studies are begining to explore the effects of inhalations - some effects are things like headache, neurological effects etc. I'm sure dogs are more sensitive to it than people - more sensitive noses. Poor doggies.
22. Way to go Jesse. Happy Birthday and many more.
23. Hippo Birdie Two Ewes!
24. I wonder if the woman even sees the irony.
25. Thanks MajiesMom, I was thinking it must be something like that - they'll still line up to get special treats and are drinking fine so we are probably fine. Actually I'm hoping that it will last long enough for Zaphod to break his food obsession habit. I'm convinced now that his eatdog persona is almost all habit/phsychological. I think he may not be stimulated enough. We may need to find some demanding activity for him.
