Fur, flanks and spring. Ugh, don't remind me. I just hope its warm enough to brush Zaphod in the yard when he starts this spring. Sounds fairly normal, if there are no other symptoms I'd not worry.

Would like some info from someone with more info: I know average age for taking a pup home is at least 8 weeks, I've heard that people suggest longer especially for small dogs. I know a presa is an extra big dog but isn't 6 weeks a bit young for weaning??

Isn't there a gland near there? Maybe its just an inflamed or blocked gland. Good luck at the vet.

Kavik was never much of a food stealer as a pup and after about 6 months he was completely reliable . . . until the swiss chalet buns. He is mad for them. I don't know if its because we were tossing them to people to dole them out (8 people for dinner - 3 person kitchen table - we were all over the place) or if its because they are so good. He actually made a beeline for one, snatched it off a tv table (he usually won't even put his head near one even if invited) and ignored the dropit comand and scarfed it quick. :o
The GSD in the pup, hopefully, should be enough to water down the husky temperament a bit for you
This is an excerpt from Animal Planet on GSD temperment.
Temperament Among the most intelligent of breeds, the German shepherd dog is so intent on its mission

They are unbelievably adorable! sigh No new puppies for me either.

Some specialty pet stores carry a "musher's wax" you could try that but you will have to wipe their feet when they come in. Sizzle - Poor Ilsa, there doesn't sound like there is much that can be done about that aside from booties, nasty dogbooties.com for neglecting to send Isla some new boots.

For further info you can try the House Training sticky in the Training section. http://forum.dogomania.com/viewtopic.php?t=10960 I think Matty or someone also posted some decent links in that thread as well. Good luck, puppies are a challenge but so worth it. We will of course need pictures. :D

Many people are unaware of the desperate and tragic situation in shelters and the health and behaviour risks involved in having un unspayed/unneutered pet. If you have any questions on these topics feel free to ask ToneDef.

 Well I guess your daughter got some excercise. My one dog only fetches inside, outside he just starts eating dandelions if I throw the kong for him - its extra strange because if we are just out for a walk he ignores dandelions. I really wonder why he made that connection - strange dog.
-
Sandra - Wouldn't your suggestion just encourage him not to drop the toy, after all once he drops it the treat is hidden away.

I sincerely doubt it, at this point your just looking at a smalll mixed breed dog. The best you could do is look at the contributing breeds - your pups might have some of the traits of all of them or might not at all.

Prongs are best used with a trainign regime. It sounds like a 6-12 week obedience course would do your pup wonders - socialization, training, setting ground rules, bonding with you, helping you with some training tips, and of course its fun. As for encouraging your dog to pull faster you will probably have to wait for one of our mushers to respond but it may be a matter of what is comfortable for your dog or conditioning - you may have to slowly work up to more speed.

Try deleting the favourite as suggested, also try: Start>ControlPanel>InternetOptions>DeleteCookies and then Delete Files check the box for Delete Offline content when given the option. Note this will delete saved usernames and passwords for sites you go to so you will have to retype them next time you go to said sites Then: Start>Programs>Accessories>System Tools>DiskCleanup - check all the boxes when given a choice. (these are the steps for winxp) Note in all the time I did tech support this caused 2 people some problems however both PCs were in desperate shape anyway. Then: Shutdown and Restart your computer and modem unless this is for some reason a problem with your setup. If it is something SIMPLE on your end that may help. Best of Luck.

What kind of waggers are your dogs?
DogPaddle replied to JackieMaya's topic in Everything about dogs
Kavik does side to side and helicopter (helicopter is usually when he is happy/excited but confused.) Zaphod is side to side or side to side with a built in object homing device - one day he knocked the same cup off the table 4 times in 45 seconds, he also likes the vertical blinds. -
I wouldn't do it but if its working for you and your dogs then it's all good (unless of course there is a by-law limiting the number of dogs/residence in your area - then you have to be sneaky.)
-
The biting the lead thing often passes but if it doesn't dose the dogs end with some bitter apple just before you start your walk. As for the other stuff, get excited, encourage her to walk with you, praise when she is fairly good. You can also try luring her into proper walking/position with treats and praise. You could also look into obed. class once Clea is done her puppy shots - its great for establishing rules, developing a close relationship and for socialization - the earlier the better.
NO Byproducts, Soy, or Corn.
Always an excellent choice. It is too bad it seems so hard to get even this simple idea out to the dog owning public. I'm not familiar with Diamond but no soy, corn or byproduct sounds reasuring.

I know there are dogs that are used as service dogs for people with epilepsy as they can alert the person prior to a seizure but that's all I know. Maybe you could search out info on service dogs for people with epilepsy just to get some background info on how it is dogs know ahead of time. Best wishes, hopefully someone here will be more helpful than I was able to be.

It is great to see them so eager to please. I actually feel guilty, I think I'm wasting Kavik's potential - if I put the effort into it I'm sure he'd do well with competative obedience, unfortunately, while I enjoy obed. class, I don't really have an interest in compatative obed.

Interesting info Cassie. DoctorBritta - Just for future reference this is a forum or "message board", it is not like live chat. This means that it is perfectly normal for your message to not be responded to immediatly, sometimes it even takes up to a day but often someone will respond within 4 hours or less depending on the time of day you post and the traffic in the section you post in.
-
I'm a suspicous person you know, I hope this is not one of those chat forum ad scams.
-
Kavik and Zaphod do this too - they will just start cycling through their repatoir to see if they can get treats. Try changing the order in which you general give commands and don't treat unless they perform the requested command. It is sorta funny. Kavik is still prone to do this even when there are no treats to be had - I like to think of it as enthusiasm.
-
It doesn't really harm him to feed him both times and it may just be a phase, I'd keep with the two feedings.
-
Oh, as for stimulating appetite: -regular gravy in food -a bit of ground meat in food -yogurt in food -pretty much anything that the dog likes mixed in with the food to get it to eat a bit more of the kibble -or just plain switch to a home prepared diet -free feed kibble but have two small meals a day of something really good and tasty Good luck.
