1. LC - No I don't think you've been too defensive. I think the overall reaction of the board has been a tad on the defensive side.
2. Oh Odnarb, I am even more annoyed at the Ontario BSL after seeing those pics. What a beauty, nice job on all the work you've done as well.
3. 2-3% of the dogs weight in ol' roy is not the same as 2-3% of the dogs weight in a quality food. Just like 2-3% of a dogs weight in sawdust and meat broth is not going to do the dog as much good as 2-3% of the dogs weight in food.
4. What are you feeding him? What does he way? Is he very active?
5. I use one of two solutions, depending on what I have in the house. I use a product like Nature's Miracle, I forget the name sadly. It comes in two parts a liquid and the dry enzyme, you mix them before you use them. I put that in a garden hose attatchments, the type typically used to apply fertalizer or pesticide when you spray the hose. If I'm out of that I use a light bleach and dishsoap combination. You'd think it would damage the lawn but so far there seems to be no effect. I mix it about 1/4 bleach and 3/4 water and a couple squirts of dishsoap. Then I set the resevoir mixer to around 45%. It helps that much of my yard is patio stone though.
6. I really think Dani, being new and having no way of knowing LC's experience level, did nothing but look out for her and the breed. I think some people here reacted in our typical defensive way (probably due to the number of trolls we've had.) I think that this comment:
Being as i have thousands of hours vested into this breed, i do know a bit more than y'all. Amazing...i know
Was the only less than polite thing she's said and it was likely made out of frustration after trying to help, explain herself and being genuinly concerned and helpful yet coming up against the defensive reaction. I'm not saying anyone was being really rude or deliberately mean. I think we just sort of reacted to each other and miscomunicated. I would think that the pit enthusiasts here would be happy to see a fairly kindred spirit?
7. Dani is just pointing out the challenges involved in competing in dog sports with a "game" dog. It's a very valid point and it was responsible of her to point it out. Granted LC was already aware of this but Dani had no way of knowing that.
8. Afghan/pit cross - to disguis your pit in BSL areas?
9. Ah teagle  Like you I wouldn't go for a deliberately bred "designer breed" but I bet he's a cutie.
10. I don't hunt with my dogs. I don't hunt or own a purely hunting breed though. If I moved north of "cottage country" I would consider hunting for food only and would certainly consider a retrieving breed.
11. LC - Good point. What province are you thinking of? I have heard that Manitoba, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick have considered BSL in the past but I'm not sure how acurate that is.
Having the dog is going to cost a lot of money . . . I probably wont be able to have a dog for the next 20 years.
CC - Having enough money for a dog was one of my motivations through college when things got tough.
12. I have completed the spring yard cleanup! I may just suck at yard cleanup but through the winter I will miss a poopsicle or two now end then because they get snow covered. Spring, therefor, has its own special ordour unless I get the spring yard cleanup done. I use one of those hose resevoirs and a petmessenzyme product to really take care of it once the main job is done. I hate doing it but I love having it done. Of course the moment I finish both boys have to go and mess it up.
13. I really hope crap like this doesn't start a snowball affect. I would hate to see Ontario go the way Italy has.
14. Its almost too bad you would be moving out of the province. I would like to know how out of province breeders feel about selling their doggies to people in a prospective BSL province. Good luck with your future pup, its nice to see you doing lots of research well in advance. Walking Case sounds like challenging prep work. :D
15.
Too bad speutered dogs can't be shown. They should really change that rule I think
That would be nice. It would make a difference in the adoption feild to some extent. I like the word speutered btw saves typing "spayed or neutered".
16. Nice suggestions Kendalyn.
17. Lucky - Any word on the Ontario BSL. Did the breeder express any reservations bout sending one of her dogs to Ontario.
18. *sigh* puppy kisses Too cute.
19. Come now, lets be nice. This is a difficult problem and a variety of opinions have been expressed. Many people, including those in either extreme of the debate have made some valid points. I don't think anyone has been trolling here but lets try to keep our comments civil and constructive.
20. I don't know if she can still smell it, steam cleaning is pretty good. You could always see how it goes, especially if you are using a gate/door.
21. Check about re-homing first. Just be upfront about why, if they can take her - great.
22. First use a product like Nature's Miracle on all the spots she's soiled - she can smell it even after you've cleaned it. Second go back to basics on training - a schedule, crated unless she is in site, not allowed to go off to other parts of the house without you etc. Third consider building a cheap covered area and training her to go there. You can use posts, make two taller than the other, run 1x1 stringers and put one of those wavy plastic panels on top. You can build a doggy gazeebo, you can get a dog run that has one of those nylon weather gaurds on top. Might help.
23. You know the dog best and you know how much/little damage was done. You are the best qualified to make this difficult choice. I would see another vet, probably about the recovery and to check thyroid levels. Perhaps consult a behaviourist. In the end though it may just come down to your instinct. You can likely find a new home for your dog easily if you need to using petfinder or a local adoption/foster group. It sounds like you have a great dog that you have done everything right with. I hope you can work it out but if not you can certainly rehome your dog with a clear conscience. Good for you for all the work you've done up to know.

Bark collar?

Huh, I wasn't aware of the citronella collars triggered only by barks - how does that work?
25. If your looking for a nice balance between cost and quality I'd suggest Canidae. It has no byproduct, no stuff added that doesn't need to be, has a good identified animal protein as the first ingredient and other quality protiens as well. You could also check out Wysong, Wellness, Innova and similar foods. You will almost certainly have to go to a pet specialty store. Does anyone have that link for that food grading tool that someone posted here? I'm not on my own pc so I can't find it.
