No cancer experience and I am not familiar with that dog food you mentioned but you may want to look into Solid Gold Mmillenia or Innova or Innova Evo. All of them have high calories/cup so you would be getting the most into him even if he won't eat much. They all have higher protein percentages. The only drawback to the Mmillenia is that it is all beef based and some dogs don't tolerate that well. Innova or Innova Evo may be more calorie dense as well. Evo is specifically geared towards lower/better carbs from what I've heard. When you say you've tried cheese - have you tried a spreadable cheese like cheese whiz? My mum uses a small dollup of cheeze whiz on a peice or roll of bologna with the pill hidden in the cheeze whiz for her dogs anti-anxiety pills.

Yes the puppy food "necessity" is a result of petfoodcos propoganda. You may notice that puppy food is usually more expensive than adult dog food and in the cheaper brands it has MORE corn or wheat or whatever to boost up the cals but it is not always better food for growing dogs. Additionally after weening, dogs in the wild eat EXACTLY the same thing as the adult dogs. Same thing with people really, after a baby comes of breastfeeding or bottle feeding they generally get regular food (albeit regular food that is all mushed up.) Puppy food may even contribute to overly fast growth rates that cause problems but I am a bit reluctant to believe that one. If you feed a quality food - all life stages is perfectly fine. Zaphod never got puppy food. He is a lab/husky? cross and is around 65lbs. His head is the size his whole body was when we brought him home - he grew just fine and is an excellent body size/weight. He is healthy except for: ear irritation - once every three months or so - corrected with warm canola oil and polysporin in a single treatment - I attribute this to an identified food intolernace or poor ears from poor genetics or something not the best teeth - he gets the same toys, teeth brushing and food as Kavik and his teeth are 2x as bad - I atribute this to the fact that he is not as enthusiastic about chewing and a hereditary thing I can't see a single thing that puppy food would have done for him and I would never worry about bothering to feed puppy food to any of my future dogs.

Good warning. Although when I first saw the thread title I thought your dog was a paper shredding machine like mine.

Can you describe what the dog did exactly, just prior to the bite. In paticular, where was he looking, was he still, what was your sister doing just prior to the bite (and this is in no way because I think she is to blame but if you have a dominant gaurding breed he may have felt she did something that need "redressing" such as petting him without him having invited her.) Dogs usually integrate well in human society but we must remember that, left to their own devices, their rules of social engagement, body language etc is quite different from ours. With a gaurding breed, and what may be a dog thinking its his role to be alpha male, you have some work ahead of you. Courtneks NILIF suggestions are good and I would be interested to see the answers to Annes questions.

Its probably just some dumbass attempt to get people to go to the site from the second post and buy some crap. Notice they are both newbs.

Americans to protest President Bush's plan

I wonder what possible justification anyone could have for supporting Bush's little plan. -

The saddest thing is that even if the public stops this, they can just try again and again and again. There is no limit to the number of times they can try, without a vigilant public you will loose your natural treasures. -
So sorry for your loss. TDG - That is great, I wasn't even aware of that. Thanks.

I went to pick up some Innova for the boys today and asked the store owner about Evo. He knew all about it but said I was the first person to ask him about it. He will be ordering in a bag for me to try when I stop by next month - no extra charge for making a special order, he just wants to know how the boys do on it so he can start talking it up with other customers. :D I don't know why but I am very excited - I probably need to get out more.

I wrote them too.

Matty - It will be interesting to see what take the prof. has on the issue. You'll let us know right CC?

We had lots . . . and then it melted  Now we only have 6 cm or so and it is half ice. Oh well, I'm sure we'll get more  Great pics btw.

I've been thinking of mixing a peppermint/lavender/water tincture for Zaphod and spritzing his mouth. (He has some very active anal glands which he takes care of himself but oh the nasty surprise when he runs up to you all dopey, happy and blah.) I'll let you know if it helps.

I am quite surprised to then. Email him and ask what's up maybe?
"If one dog smells one bomb and saves a platoon's life, it's worth it," Terry Muratore told The Associated Press.

"The concern is that these animals play a vital role in the security operations out there by sniffing for weapons that could take lives," Ensign aide Jack Finn said. "They have to be taken care of,
http://www.lasvegassun.com/sunbin/stories/nevada/2005/jan/06/010610252.html This is some peoples attitude as to why the dogs should be saved. This is part of what I mean about the dogs being viewed as a tool not a living being - it is only important to save the dogs for what they can do FOR people not because they just plain deserved not to starve in their own right. Well the latest article indicates they are not American deployed dogs which is good - I would have been quite dissappointed if they had been shipped out without proper supplies.
-
Another article I read indicated that the dogs were "deployed dogs" which may indicate that the dogs are American police dogs in Iraq so it may not be THEY wanting YOUR money.
Military officials at the Combined Press Information Center in Baghdad did not immediately respond to the newspaper's request for information about the food supply for U.S. canines in Iraq.
http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/military/20050105-0934-nv-beggingforscraps.html I really would like to know more, like: Why they have dogs without a plan to care for them? Whose dogs are they? What conditions the dogs work under? What conditions the dogs live under when not working? Why they won't feed the dogs some meat, rice and veggies? If an adequate solution cannot be found how do we get the dogs out of there? And ideally I'd photos and a trustworthy source. (I don't trust people to not use a military/sob storey just to get money.)
-
I don't understand - if there is food for people there is no reason for the dogs to starve. Perhaps they wouldn't have the best diet but a soldiers rations would do fine and would likely be better than some kibbles. Are people so brainwashed by the dog food companies that they think a dog must starve if there is not kibble around? I often worry about the care that police and military dogs get at the best of times - too often they are seen as tools as opposed to living beings. Gah, I hope they get something worked out.

BTW if anyone would like to email the Bodybreak folks to express their opinions about Beneful their email address is bodybreak@bodybreak.com. I only mention it because I emailed them about it something like 6 months ago - no change - guess Purina is paying them well.
-
But isn't Dr Weil an expert on people holistic health? Many people aren't aware of the problems with dogs and corn or that a meal balanced for a dog should have more meat than one balanced for a person, although why he thought added salt was ok I don't know. I had a similar complaint about the Bodybreak people here. They have short health clips on tv here. There are fairly well respected in the excercise and nutrition feild but they get endorsements from Purina, have a Beneful link on their web site and in a clip regarding nutrition implied that Beneful was good for your dog. They have a Nova Scotia Duck Toller and I think they might actually feed it that crap.
-
If you want something quick and easy every now and then - take some ground meat - beef, chicken and turkey are easy to find ground - brown lightly (just break up and move meat about until it is not red more brown or if you like pink/brown) without adding any oil much like you might for spegetti sauce. Refrigerate and dole out as desired - I used to give Kavik (40lb) a heaping tablesppon with his kibble. If your concerned with balance try adding a heaping teaspoon of yogurt. I used to do yogurt in the morning and meat in the evening.

What breeds are considered "pit bulls"?
DogPaddle replied to __crazy_canine__'s topic in Amstaffs & Pit Bulls
Maybe they are confused and meen that the dogs on the list or dogs that have, in the past or currently, been bred, at least in part, for and used in the pit; hence pit dogs? -
No problem. I crate trained all mine - helps with housetraining. After they were adults and well trained we transitioned to allowing them loose in the house but it is still useful to have them crate trained in case they need to be transported, seperated or otherwise contained for some reason.
