1.
Egg, your problem is COMPLETELY different!!!!!!!! :x
Oh, let me add to that --- 100%, COMPLETELY, totally, not even in the same ball park, NOT even remotely anywhere near --- the same problem. If it needs to be simple, I can do that, too.
2. Carol --- we're all right behind you in a handbasket!
3. :o I would think the mere sight of those big, black, slobbering, fuzzy-wuzzies running toward you would be enough to make anyone run the other way!
4. Sounds like he's a fear barker. Too much responsibility for him to protect everything, because he's still young and has no self confidence, just doesn't quite know what to do...so he barks. Alrighty, off to take a nap since I didn't get a lot of sleep last night.
5. "Oh yeah, and HOBBIT, I think you know where you can stick your unfounded opinions....you didn't even bother to ask for the WHOLE story before you ran off at the mouth". And YOU didn't bother to post it, did you? What was I supposed to think? If YOU don't tell me.....then I WON'T know, will I? I will HAVE to fill in the PARTS that YOU left OUT! NO where in any of your posts have you EVER stated that your dog barks NON-STOP, or I missed it somewhere. Yes, you are right -- I was off base here. Why? Because I didn't KNOW the whole story. I do appologize for not knowing YOUR story. IF I had of known, I would not have posted what I did. Unfortunately, some dogs are a lost cause. I never even eluded to the fact that my dogs are perfect....they aren't, I admit it and deal with it accordingly.
6. "you'd only be trying to engage in a battle of wits with an unarmed opponent" Excellent point Horsefeathers! Good post, too --- totally with you! And what about those people who think it's *cute* to sic their little monsters on everybody, including the cat. Their little foo-foo, untrained, unsocialized, bad breath, butt licking, yappy, biting, genetic monstrosity of a dog. I KNOW I need a nap today!
7. I have to raise an eyebrow at several of their choices.
8. Thanks Foster. I look forward to see the new site and the pictures.
9.
Thanks all...but unfortunately my problem is being solved for me....anyone looking for a BEAUTIFUL and wonderful tempered chow/retriever cross? He's the best dog in the whole wide world.... While I was at work this afternoon my husband let him out back where he barked non-stop and wouldn't listen to him....even when brought in the house he barked continuously and wouldnt do what my husband asked. So he put him back outside thinking maybe he needed out - where he barked more, and more. Two neighbours on the backside of us came over and complained that he was getting all the other dogs in the neighbourhood going and they were going to call the city....as a result we have decided that the best thing for my baby is for him to go to an acerage where he can bark all day and no one will care.... today is a sad sad day in our household.... EBBY
I will be blasted for this --- I don't care. You know Ebby, it's people like you that really pi$$ me off. Instead of behaviour modification, you just throw the dog away. Is the new Golden the one that you want to make some money back on by breeding? His temperment is surely nothing that a GOOD breeder would want to pass on to the offspring. Only back yard Breeders DO! I'm preaching now, so enough of that. People WITH ACREAGE DO CARE if a dog BARKS NONSTOP because the bark carries! We can hear dogs barking....NONSTOP....that are miles away and they get our dogs barking and it just aggravates the HE!! out of me. If everytime I DEMANDED, because my ego was hurt, that my spouse *THROW AWAY* one of our dogs because they wouldn't mind me OR vice versa ----- I'D BE DOGLESS. I just spend more time with the dog reintroducing my views on being alpha. Geez, the LACK of sleep is showing today.....must have been the freaking dogs from the next section of land that barked ALL NIGHT LONG and caused my dogs to bark ---- and kept me up trying to make sure everything was okay outside.......in the rain......in the mud......NO SLEEP.
10. Hey I found this website this morning --- any thoughts? It's probably been covered before, before my time. http://www.petrix.com/dogsec/security.html
11.
Wonder why the sheriff won't move on it? Do you suppose he has fighting dogs too?
Because he is up for RE-ELECTION, and wouldn't want to lose any votes. :-?
12. Gutter, gutter, gutter..... I was thinking......NOSE, since they stretch the truth so much!
13. You KNEW my demented mind would think this --- what part (of the body) would the trunk of the elephant be? :o
14.
15.
What will they think of next...
ANYTHING to make a buck!
16.
Thanks Hobbit :) Guess you can see all the Burke info from the other threads happening now...
YES, and we owe it ALL to you!
17. I'm a German Shepherd.
18. Yeah, thought so. She has newborned babies with her. Those pups on the outside are NOT hers. Geez!!!
19.
hey- i just started mixing dresden's puppy food with lady's adult food. she is still eating just as happily and we'll see what happens. i met a really nice male acd today, he was a year old though, maybe he was annoying as heck too when he was younger. so you all don't like eukanaba ? my brother is the one who convinced me to try it.......i'm ready to try anything different though. lady is on nutromax adult food and she is the healthiest dog we've ever had, she's a mutt though too. any opinions on nutromax ?
Not being a smarty pants but, is Nutromax the same as Nutrimax? If so, Pentobarbital has been found in some samples of the dog food indicating that it possibly is made from euthanized dogs.
20. Yep, USMC you are right. This Golden is viewing Ebby as a lower member of the pack. Ebby, even though he is your husbands dog, you must establish that YOU are not lower than he is. Don't let him establish dominance over you or it will be nightmare. Let this big boy know that you are HIS boss and definately reclaim your ALPHA status with him --- or he'll be "marking" you as his own!
21. Hey Foster --- thanks for posting the website. I looked and looked for it but was unable to locate it! Has Foster gotten redder (lost her saddle, yet)? Drop in now and again and let me know how she's doing! She IS lovely.
22. I agree with Sasha and Deep. Egg stay if you want to; if not, that is your choice. If you want our help, fine; if not, that's okay. Please don't expect us to sugar coat anything, because that is not the solution. Pity-party? Hum...sounds more like someone who gets their way....ALOT. Corgi hit the nail on the head with her post. Your dad agreed to let you have Duck, not because HE wanted a dog, but because YOU wanted one (or kept begging or bugging him for one) and promised to take care of her ---- NOT understanding the hugh responsibility you were taking on. My opinion is that Duck is not being treated with the respect she deserves. You complain about how other people have their dogs in cages all day ---- YOU ARE NO BETTER THAN THEY ARE. Duck is a baby and by standing (living) on wire all the time, her tendons and ligaments are paying the price for your selfishness. She will not be able to walk properly without proper exercise. Her feet will become sore from standing on wire for 16 hours a day. I rescued a Kelpie that spent the first 12 months of her life in a wire cage. When I got her, she could only stand up for a few minutes at a time. Her stance was crouched down, not being used to the weight on her legs and sore feet. It took a solid YEAR for her to be able to stand correctly ---- which she NEVER was able too. She was NEVER able to run, she could only walk fast. My patience has run out. This baby is being abused, period. I didn't mean to upset the rest of the members. My heart aches for Duck.
23.
:o Hey.... this link was in the same paper.... check it out http://www.just-buy-me.itctv.com/ Would you call this mail-order puppies (BK)?
Anyone notice the picture with the "mother", caption says "3 weeks old with mother". That is a crock of BS, look closely---the "mother" has very young puppies with her, NO WAY are those 3 wk old pups walking around by the dog house hers. SHE has a litter of newborns. OR, am I just going crazy!?

HELP

Hey Marble the other posters posted some very good techniques to try. Your pup views you as an equal because she is trying to play with you like she would another sibling or an "equal" other pup. Reinforce that you are alpha and not her equal. Good luck, ACD's are a handful and are usually of a dominant personality.

Dogs
You know why they roll in smell? Please explain to me why! I'm sure tired of the stinky neck!
Gigi, they roll because they want to smell like the environment, so they won't smell different. That way, smelling like their surroundings, they can sneak up on their prey or their preditors can't sniff them out (because they don't smell different).
