I know I haven't been on here for a while. I'm so sorry I haven't been able to chat on MSN or anything like that, it's just that school started and I have no time at all for the internet. On weekends I am usually out with my friends, and on school days I'm not allowed on the internet. I miss Dogo so much! I have so many things to catch up on! I thought I would just give a little update on Rowie first! She's being a little angel !! I'm so proud! I was worried that when school started, she would be a little devil since I wouldn't be with her 24/7 like I did in the summer. Thankfully, she is doing great! I have taught her "drop it" and "off", as well as "fetch" and a perfect "down" which she seemed to be having trouble with before. She's a real quick learner! And most of you will know I have been having some food problems with her these past few months. Unfortunatly, I haven't brought Canidae into a nearby shop yet, but I'm still trying. The good news is, the pet shop nearby (the one that is against PMs, and BYBs) have started carrying "Nature Diet"! :D And you will not believe the change in her! Her coat is thick and shiny, her teeth are pearly white, her ears are odour free, and all her skin irritations have dissapeared! The food is the meat variety though, they don't carry the kibble. I have been mixing the food with rice, and she loves it! Not to mention yogurt and olive oil once a week. I'm really, really glad that I don't have to worry about food anymore! :) Well that's everything about Rowie... now on to me. This year looks MUCH easier then last year. Last year was all stress, and worries, and etc. Although I have one of the worst classes ever, things are looking up for me. And now on to the great news! I got a new computer! :D FINALLY! A flat screen, with DVD and a CD writer. I'm really not trying to show off, but I'm so happy! No more freezing, erasing all files, signing me out of MSN Messenger suddenly, etc. Now I can listen to music without the computer going crazy, and actually watch a DVD! :D Wahoo! So things are alot better now! My grades, Rowie, my computer! Just thought you would all like an update!

Poor Zaphod! What a good boy though! One of the many reasons I don't like bones. I just stay away from all bones, I can't trust Rowie with a bone-ever! I'm so glad he's okay now!

Rest in Peace dear, sweet, Poppy! You made your owner proud...

I am so sorry for you and Hubby (and Paddy and Gladis). Remeber, she may not be there in body, but she is there is spirit. Poppy will be with you no matter what. You made the right desicion, ending her suffering. She is waiting for you at the rainbow bridge. Rest In Peace Sweet Poppy! I'm here if you need a shoulder to cry on, or someone to talk to. We're ALL here....

I've studied this subject for a long time, and I have come up with a theory that since cock fights have begun pits seemed to be the best choice to be a fighting dog. With this in mind they bred them for this purpose. I find that they have been bred for so long to be such fierce fighters that it's hard for them to get that out of their systoms. I have the feeling that it's been etched into their instincts and they just can't help themselves. If you have an agressive pit it could be a mental disorder too. An aggressive pit can come from a healthy home or a bad home. It's not nessesarily the owner or the breeders' fault in some cases, but in others they are both to blame. It depends on the situation I guess. That's just what I think don't get me wrong. I love Pits with a passion! And, I just can't stand them being picked apart like this!! *cries*
Ok, I am not trying to argue with you but I do have a few comments about your post. Dog fighting and human aggression, or ANIMAL aggression and human aggression are not the same thing. A dog can have both animal and human aggression, but if a Pit bull is animal aggressive it will not lead to human aggression. They are not related. Fighting dogs (pit bulls) were bred, to NOT bite humans...in most cases "man biters" were culled. Would you like to get into the ring with an injured, man biting dog fighter? Probably not so much. It is not likely that dog fighters are the cause of human aggressive Pit bulls, it would just be far too risky for them to have a man biting dog....not to say there are none. I personally think that the people, not dogs to blame are backyard breeders. People trying to feed the demand for human aggressive Pit bulls. They are breeding litter after litter of dogs with unknown, and possibly dangerous temperments and backgrounds. They are not checking the parents, the grandparents, the dogs health..they are simply making a profit. Also I think a lot of the time that you hear about a "Pit bull attack" or a vicious Pit bull that they are not always Pit bulls. I think there are a lot of uneducated breed guessing going on...and if the dog has a blocky head, stocky body, short sleek coat and cropped ears, or not...it can only be a Pit bull. Not to mention the fact that there are a lot of mixes, and they seem to never mention the mix...which could possibly explain the aggressive nature of the dog. If the mix is a guardian breed..then that would explain why it was acting aggressive, would it not? But instead it's only the Pit bull being blamed. I am not saying there are no so-called "bad pit bulls" out there, but I do not think they got their by themselves. And dog can be tought or conditioned in some way (abuse, neglect, isolation) to be aggressive. It simples takes a person to do it. Even if there is a Pit bull who was born aggressive, their breeder should be educated and care enough about the breed and the public to NOT breed the probably aggressive parents. If there is an aggressive Pit bull, the owners should have the sense to put it to sleep. Sadly we cannot rely on the senses of the owners, because far to often they are simply senseless, clueless and or know exactly what they have and like it. In those cases the dog gets blamed unfairly. I just do not believe a dog wakes up one day and goes, hrmmm Im really bored today..lets go maul my owner. Sorry to be so harsh..but there are signs along the way leading up to each attack. Maybe the owner is too neglectful, stupid, uneducated, careless, dangerous..because they are looking for a vicious dog...but there are signs, if you look for them. Any dog, of any breed can or will bite under the right circumstances. The problem is the wrong people have their hands on this breed. It is a very powerful breed, it does have the capablity of doing some serious harm...it can bite, maim or kill. But just because it can, does not mean it will. After all that rambling on and on, I think it's people who are to blame. I think people at some point either neglected to cull the aggressive dogs from greed, demand or lack of knowing any better. And the dogs cannot stop or help what a human has started.
*Claps* Wonderful post! :D
the pet passport scheme- I think vets do this the dog has to pass health checkes and be mirco-chipped Are there no breeders now where you live with your Mum ?
Mouse, she lives in BH with me... :D And beleieve me, the only Bahraini breeders I could find on the internet where "Asil" horse breeders and Pigeon breeders. Which is really too bad. I have searched everywhere... there are almost no breeders here! That's why we import. Nadoosh, Dr.Nouni handles imports! http://www.noniecoutts.com Look at her "Import/Export" page. You can ask her about almost anything... let's go sometime! I just found out that Bahrain has a "Bahrain kennel Club". I have the adress if you want... This is exciting... -
All our dogs get BARF. Malamum, do they sell Innova in pet shops in Sydney? You can't get it here, but if I do get this Papillon I will need something to feed it until I get back to armidale with him and I was hoping to find some innova or eagle pack or something of the like (you can only get euk, nutrience and science diet here).
You get Nutrience too? Do you find it good or bad? This is what I fed Rowie a few months back, and she was great on it, not as well as I wanted, but still good. Aroura, I'm guessing you live in the middlest of the middle of nowhere like me then? I feed Natural Diet (which I found here but in the meat variety) which is doing wonders for her coat, teeth, and skin. I love the ingredients (includes seaweed) but I don't really want her on meat all the time as I trust kibble more...
Don't you have to go through all the quarantine hassles too?
Dr. Nonie Coutts Veterinary Surgery can arrange for your animal(s) to be exported to or imported from most countries. We can provide IATA-approved travel boxes, transport to or from the airport and all travel booking and local permits. We have access to laboratories in England where specialised blood tests, in accordance with Australian/New Zealand Quarantine requirements, can be performed. Some countries require the animal to be micro-chipped, this can be done at the Main Clinic. http://www.noniecoutts.com/ We also have the UK PETS scheme here, don't know if it would work if we are getting a dog from the UK not to the UK. Quarintine is for a month, but if you have a certificate, then I think there is no need for a quaretine. Also, if you get the puppy shipped to Saudi, and then pick it up from there and drive to Bahrain, there is no need for quarentine. You can check with Dr.Nonie... she is excellent! nadoosh, why don't you and I go and talk to Dr.Nouni Coutts, and also Happy Dog Training Centre? Also the German Shepard Club of Bahrain, and the Canine Association of Bahrain. All must have good advice... There are so many people in BH who have imported from Germany, UK, Thailand, and the US, I think you should be able to. All we need to do is talk to a few people and research, research, research! -
Need help getting a dog from overseas!
Rowie-the-Pooh replied to nadooshkinz's topic in Everything about dogs
Oh! Oh! I'm in the same pickle! :-? I know who your talking about.. Thing is, they are thinking of another Lab, too. I asked her if she could give me the e-mail, website, phone number, and all the details about this breeder if she could. I hope I get a reply from her soon, though! I hope my next pooch is either a Golden, lab, or Beagle. There are loads of breeders that ship... problem? Not all are good. And as Mouse pointed out, you are getting a dog you have never ever seen before. You'll need to do ALOT OF research. Ask for recommendations from people you know of breeders who ship. I've been looking at breeder's websites for a long time now, and I can tell a good breeder from a bad breeder. Things to look for in a breeder? Make sure all the dogs are health tested and screened/scanned from any problems in the breed. Make sure all dogs are screened for heart, elbow, hip, and eye diseases (must have clearances). Most breeders will have a contract/questionaire, and also, take any pups back for whatever reason. A GOOD breeders cares for her pups and dogs and would never want to see harm come to them. A good example of a Golden Breeder (who I have yet to e-mail) is this: http://www.tsuwa-snapdraggon.com/Tsuwa/Tsuwa.html? (Have a look at Ash ) The perfect breed for you. Well, the first thing most people think when someone asks what breed is for them is "A lab!" or "A Golden!". Of course, both breeds have excellent personalities, but remember, every dog is different. If you do get a lab, that does not mean it will be the sweetest thing on earth. Only training and socializing can do that. Also, labs and Goldens tend to get destructive when bored. You have to research, research, research, and do some more research when finding the breed for you. Lots of people think I chose the Golden because it is the "ideal family pet"... right? Wrong! I did so much research! Almost every breed of dog I researched! I found that the Golden fit my lifestlye the best (plus I was in love with the breed ever since age 4). It was sheer luck that I found Rowie. You don't find too many Goldens over here in BH, but there are actually SOME breeders here, and some are good! (I saw a Havanese breeder ad here once, big shock). I suggest you look at loads of websites, and when you do find the breed for you, research your breed! Look at it's Kennel Club websites, breeder websites, train your eye to find a good pedigree... etc. One more thing (sorry this is so long), before you go and do an import, ask vets in your area, doggie friends, and your obedience instructer if they know any breeders in the country or nearby that are reptuble. If you like, e-mail Dr.Nouni Coutts...http://www.noniecoutts.com/ and ask her. She knows almost every dog person in the country! There are also some families here, who are returning to the UK or US and have to leave their dogs (sadly) behind. Once there was a family who needed to give away their two poodles. Another time their Golden (Rowie ). So check bulliten boards alot for advertisments. Also, the BSPCA once had a Golden come in (I was there), and another time they had a Lab come in. So if worse comes to worse, you can check in with the BSPCA and check if there are any pedigree dogs there, or a breed that you have been researching. Or ask them if they know a breeder, an organization like that is sure to know someone! Also, remember, a rescue can give just as much love as a pedigree. A paper proves nothing about a dog. I would be MORE then happy to help you with your search for the breed and breeder for you. Just PM me, call me, or tell me in school! Good Luck! Hey, I need help too... anyone know of a good breeder of Goldens that ships? :( www.petsmart.com is a good website to look at, just go to the "dogs" section and look at all the breeds... -
Oh can this REALLY be happening to me???!!!
Rowie-the-Pooh replied to Aroura's topic in Everything about dogs
Oh Aroura! I am so happy for you! :B-fly: I know how it feels finding the "one". That special breeder. After so long! You lucky thing you! That will never happen to me though... I can't wait! Non-animal friendly people are okay... but people who don't like animals... well... weird! :-? I hope you have dog friendly people as your next nieghbors... then you two (or three or four) will be the "doggie people". It would be cool! So sorry to hear you had such weird people as nirghbors.... I'm so dog crazy! At school I am known for my love of dogs.. and people are constantly coming up to me and giving me pictures of dogs and asking "What breed is this?" I for one did not inherit my dog/animal love. Came from the heart baby!

I know exactly how you feel, Shara. On the day Rowie was to be spayed, I didn't go to school! :o I was so worried! "What if the doc does something worng?" "What if she wakes up in the middle of the operation?" etc. etc. Don't worry, he'll be fine. And when he comes back he'll b a neutered dog! Wahoo! One more dog that will not sire any pups and bring more homeless doggies into this world... :D
