since kibble has already a minimum of 50% grains, i wouldn't dilute that more by adding just rice. if you substitute a meal of kibble with rice and scrambled egg or a bit of meat now and then, that would be fine tho. as long as you don't add more than about 20% meat to the diet, the kibble will have enough spare calcium to make up for the phosphorus introduced by boneless meat. and if you can find nutritional yeast (or torula yeast) instead of brewer's yeast, that would be even better. :)
Thanks, thats helped a lot! :D I think I'm starting to get the whole phosphorus and calcium thing. So I should include a bit of raw meat now and then? What do you suggest? Lamb/chicken/pork? And the organs/legs/necks...etc? I'll try to find the torula yeast, but unfortunately I doubt I will find any where I live (yep, middle of nowhere, how did you guess? ). If not, should I go on with the Brewer's? Thanks again, you've been a great help! :D

Thanks, everyone. My post sounded like I was intrested in SARF because of the name, but it was reading further into the subject that really got me intrested (Species Appropriate Raw Foods). I don't think I'll skip Rowie's vaccs, as their required by law here (I think, I'll have to make sure), and I decided not to take a risk with the whole not-giving-the-heartworm thing. Better safe than sorry! Thanks again for the input, I've been researching for quiet a while now. I've decided to order the books, and judging by some reviews on other websites they're supposed to be really helpful. Who knew dog food would take so much time researching? For now, Rowie's on as good a diet as I can give her until I've researched enough. She's pretty healthy, actually. Pink gums, white teeth, clear eyes and ears. Her fur is nice and thick, with no evidence of rashes or allergies (she used to have skin irritations, plus ear infections...once I took her off Eukanuba and fed her a better diet of kibble, yogurt, egg...etc. she was much better). I've heard rice is also healthy for our lovely babies? Rowie will have some with her kibble about 2-3 times a week. Also, Rowie gets Brewer's Yeast tablets everyday.
"so last year"... :zly7: ????? What is it going to take, and why is it so hard, for people to grasp the fact that dogs are sentient beings and not accessories?!
Exactly! It was in a British mag-forgot its name. :-? If only there was some king of HUGE organization that could educate celebirties or something...

Who would put this on their dog?
Rowie-the-Pooh replied to True_Pits's topic in Everything about dogs
i guess this is the opposite extreme of the people that dress up their toy dogs like dolls and polish their toenails... some day i will put a (lightweight, don't worry! :D ) spiked collar on my Pom and a pink sweater on my Pyr and see what people have to say about THAT! :shiny:
Now THAT's an idea. About the collars...no comment. -
Urgh, this makes me so mad. I once saw this article about Kelly Osbourne, and she bought an Affenpinscher from...WoC! Not only that, Jennifer and Brad Pitt have just gotten a labradoodle. The article said something along the lines of... "forget Chiuaua's, they are so last year! The new craze it seems are for the famous labrador x poodle crosses. Originally..." and then they go on to say the breed's history and origin...etc. What really annoys me is that people who revere their favorite celebs will go out to the petstore and get that labradoodle, cockerpoo, mockipee or whatever their called... :x

Your website is amazing! Way to go! :D I have a question though, on the English "home" page, there are pics of a Sire and Dam. I was wondering if the Sire is of the same breed? He looked really different! Is he the powderpuff type or something? Heh, feel like an idiot.
-
Yes, you heard me right. Its a SARF diet. And VERY intresting too! I first heard about the diet when I visited www.bullovedbulldogs.com/sarf.htm (a link I found on another dog forum) and am almost convinced. The breeders mentioned add no veggies to their diet, and a type of silver is put into their water. Also, they get no vaccines or heart worm medicine. Its all completely natural! I just need a couple of books, and I think I'm actually going to make the switch. Just wanted to see your input... I think Spike has character! :D I just wonder what people say/do when they go for walks or to the dog park! The dog was going to be dumped or shot by the next morning. I think what the owners did is amazing, and Spike is so lucky to have found them. If not for them, some mean person would have adopted him, leaving him alone for hours then deciding he was too ugly to keep. He has loads of doggie pals http://www.defuzzld.com/Gang.html (check out all the rescues, only one came from a breeder!) and kitties too! Loads of acres to run in...etc. I don't think I should call him a "freak" and not like him because some idiot decided to not nueter/spay his/her pets! He does look sort of weird at first glace, but after a while you get used to it. He's always smiling, and if I saw him at the pound my heart would definately point towards him... :iloveyou:

Help, I'm falling in love with the shiloh shepherd
Rowie-the-Pooh replied to delh1's topic in Group 1
cokerpoo or an ori pei.
JMO, but these breeds were bred for the quick buck. They are designer breeds that weren't ment to improve anything except the size of the "breeder"s wallet. The Shiloh on the other hand was meant to improve the GSD, although creating a whole new breed is a bit extreme, IMO. Still, Shiloh Shepherds are amazing dogs (I did research a few years back) and I think they would better match some people than the GSD would. Spiritsmom has a beautiful Shiloh who is darling! I remember Rumble, poor thing. Can't believe he still hasn't been found. :( Anyway, this person asked for info on the Shiloh so lets help! When I'm researching, the first place I usually visit is a rescue network. Believe me, a LOT of info. can be found at rescue websites. Then, I go to a good, responsible breeders website and look up the dogs, they're looks, genetic diseases, what they have to be screened for...etc. Then some info sites, webrings, or a forum. Hope it helps! :) -
met an Akita! and Leonbergers, and Kai Ken, and...
Rowie-the-Pooh replied to a topic in Everything about dogs
Sounds like you had an amazing time, your so lucky! :D The closest I've gotten to a pet Expo is a dog show. :( I love meeting dog breeds you haven't met before, amazing experience. I was also wondering about the C-word? :o -
Courtnek, your absoloutly right! Sending an article to a rival magazine would be an amazing way to get People's attention. Who knows, maybe we'll have a doggy fued between the two mags soon? Lets just hope US Weekly won't shove it under the rug, too. Do any of you know about the whole Oprah petition? Whatever happened to that?

Just wanted to add, although I'm not an expert, I loved "Chip" and "Stitch" (though he passed away :( ). "Bogy"s pretty too! Ok I have no idea what I'm saying, just wanted to say those were the ones that caught my eye! -

Oh thanks Aroura! How cute, I'd like to see a Boxer with a tail! Congraulations again, your obviously very knowledgable about the breed so your future pup (whicever kennel he's from) will be in the greatest hands ever. -
Rowie.... :o That dog looks pure evil :o Is it eating the other one :o Oh my....
 That's what I thought too! I think its just a "took the picture at the right moment" kind of pic. The smaller dog must have been looking into the bigger dogs mouth or something when the owner snapped the picture. Scared the heck out of me at first! -

Rowie-the-Pooh replied to Smooshie's topic in Everything about dogs
Smoosh, I think it's great that your planning your next dog. :D And a Cane Corso too, amazing! Couldn't help looking the breed up on google and got this:  Its from a breeders website or something. Anyway, on the rescue site the female is simply GORGEOUS! Can't wait for those darling puppy pics... -

MUST...HAVE...PICS! I'm checking out the kennels now, tell yah what I think in a mo. -

Welcome back, Crested! :D We missed you oodles and noodles! And I LOOOOVE your Avatar! :iloveyou: Funky idea, Crested.

 If you want a dog color, I'd say look at the puppies first then decide. If your showing, it will probably matter. But if your min pin is a pet, then I think its not the physical atributes but the inside of the dog that makes it special! If its a coat color, it depends on your dog's color. I think blue is a harmless color, or red.
-
Do you need a jacket for the dog, or you need help deciding what color you would like... ? :-? Sorry, didn't understand your post...
-
Oh no! I can't wait till Friday comes, hope it isn't any bad news!

Thank you everyone for all your valuable advice. I've been doing A LOT of research, and with your advice in mind will research even MORE till I am 100% sure of what I will be feeding Rowie. Thanks again! :D

Thanks mouse! :D What veggies do you add, how much? Boiled, or raw? Thanks!

Hello, For those of you that don't know, I have an (almost) three year old female Golden Retriever, Rowie. I've been struggling with food issues for a very long time now, since I can't find any good food around here. Before I "adopted" her, she was being fed Eukanuba Puppy. I quickly switched to Nutrience http://www.hagen.com/canada/english/dogs/nutrience.html a dog food manufactured in Canada. Its the only GOOD dog food I can get around here, unless I ship but thats just WAY too expensive (believe me I've tried). Although her coat is beautiful, thick and healthy, her teeth white and her ears beautifully pink, I know that only kibble is not enough (after a lot of researching). I just thought that maybe, someone could help me with Rowie's diet since I don't trust myself to do it alone. Now, she is being fed Nutrience "Original", along with a few drops of olive oil (our trainer said it would be helpful) and a quarter cup of yoghurt. And of course, fresh water and a few treats here and there! I would like to add veggies to the diet, and probably some canned dog food (yes, I know about introducing it to her slowly, don't worry ). I just don't know how much. Just some info about her: Rowie's fairly active, it takes some time to tire her out. She's about 25-26kg (ideal weight) and has no allergies. She loves yoghurt. So, heres a little "challenge" for all ya'll experts. :D Like everyone else, I just want what's best for my dog!
