I know it does KG..and I know that PF treated you very badly, so I will tell the story here of Ceasar. her parents did not want Ceasar to be inside. she is a minor she has no control over the situation. I tried to help her on PF, as some others did, bit the "clique" people slammed her repeatedly for having an outside dog. Now I agree with them that dogs should be inside at night and when they cant be kept an eye on, but they were slamming her because the dog was out AT ALL, without someone watching him. not possible, since she cant spend her whole life outside, and thats where the parents said the dog had to be. we have worked together on training and getting Ceasar used to being an inside dog. parents are relenting a little, Ceasar still needs a lot of training but it can be done. I think she wanted to avoid the abuse here she got there, while trying to work this all out. KG, you have worked hard with Ceasar, you have convinced your parents to relent a little, in my opinon....GOOD JOB!! keep it up. we will help you. 8)

I give mine rawhide, but only when I'm here to supervise. they can cause stomach and choking problems, but my dogs have always been large and never had issues. I dont believe they are the best for small dogs.. nylabone is a bone thats pretty mucn indestructible....you have to watch the chewing there too. when the knobby ends are broken or chewed off its time to get another one. 8)

sometimes its done by the teeth. only lately have dental concerns become an issue, so the vet can usually tell by the teeth the apporximate age.... 8)

Kat, the "old school" still exists out there. I see it all the time with people who took their dogs to trainers who said the dogs should be "hung by their leash and choke chain" for disobedience. do you have any idea how ballistic that makes me? really, the bat has come to mind many times.. or rather, a choker on the trainer. lets see how YOU like it.... :evilbat: explain that you are a "positive reinforcement" trainer, who doesnt believe in the "old school" crap about hurting dogs to train them. you can have them call me if you want. I will tell them all about the aggressive dogs I have tamed using no more than pack rules and some firm discipline....firm as in consistent, not abusive.... 8) let me know if I can help you.

I agree, nose to nose is not good. that means they are laying down the ground rules of who will be higher in the heirarchy, and if done correctly it can work. the owner of these dogs is cluelesss..

welcome back KG..see? I told you we wouldnt bite... we strive to teach. thats one of our big goals. yea, we snipe, get irritated and sometimes snap, but these people are more like family then some real families.... realize this isnt at all like PF. I know you knocked around there pretty bad, and I defended you. but not all sites are like them. 8)

is there a leash law? you're in the money if there is... 8)

ok I'm gonna be serious....sometimes its best, for the relationship with the dog, to let things like this. if its not a major infraction, not hazardous and not dominance....let it go. thats in reality what a pack lead would do. a simple "ok, get over it" in a calm but stern voice will do it. 8)

if she's not doing it consistently, there may have been something "good" in that dirt...my dogs will eat the kittie poops if given the chance, which they arent...

ok MY take on litter box eating...with pack pups, the mom eats the droppings until the pups are old enough to venture out on their own, to keep the den clean... thats my story and I'm sticking to it....
Dirt eating is pica, usually a symptom of an iron deficiency. She like to munch on ice cubes as well?
wait wait....what does ice cubes have to do with it? Both of mine chew ice cubes...... :o

I could see it in a place with venemous snakes, or coyotes that can come in the yard (which is why I dont trust tie-outs, there are coyotes in the forest preserves around here) if its a small dog. A coyote is unlikely to enter my neighborhood, since there is game in the preserves and at the river, and unlikely to take on two large dogs, but I guess it depends where in the country you are. I would be afraid of snakes, definitely.

I agree. a fenced yard is the safest. sounds like you spent some time on Petfinder? they will rip you a new one if you tell them you leave your dog outside unsupervised. I had a long ongoing argument with them about it. My yard is completely and safely fenced, and I can see the dogs from both my desk and the kitchen windows, and mine too will bark/paw to come in when they want to, so its not like they're being left out there. and there's two of them. they like to run around the yard and commune with the neighbors dogs throough the fence. so no, as long as the dog is safe and you let them in if they want I see no problem with it. 8)

EVERY time I get out of the shower Buddy comes in and proceeds to lick my legs dry. Does anyone else have a dog that does that?
nassa does that too! at least i know she's isn't the only one now, anyone have any idea why they do it? also, if i have a cut or some kind of injury she comes up and tries to lick it as well.....do you think she's trying to fix it? felicia
Free and Laurel both lick my legs and feet, although not out of the shower cuz they're not allowed in there (too crowded - lol). and as far as licking wounds, yes, I think they're trying to fix it. that's how they would in a pack if one member is injured. I have heard that their saliva has a natural antibiotic in it.....however, I dont know that for a fact. 8) Felicia I must have missed greeting you, so welcome aboard.

in this stage submissive peeing is not unusual. he got above himself, you took over, and now he is "apologizing" for every mistake. dont yell, just clean it up, and then find something you and him like and do it. reward him when done, but take the toy away and put it up. you are saying "I accept your place now, but I still run this show.." this will increase his confidence, (so the peeing stops) but also let him know that you are still in charge. PM me if you need help. I can try to develop a plan specific to him if necessary... luv ya DAL. hang in there ok? 8)
