1. no need to shout, Boxerlover....
2. Did your version mention his illness at all? I have read that one too...but it was a different article then the one I rememeber...
3. p,s, - the old signature said "Some people are like Slinkies....basically useless, but it's still fun to watch them tumble down the stairs...." someone got offended...thought it was directed at them....
4. My email at work has a signature on it that says "The More People I Meet, the Better I Like My Dogs...."
5.
I usually don't say anything back but once I did because the guy was so mean. He said "a mutt isn't worth the food you feed him". I told him if that's how he feels then his kids should be starving. I really don't know if that even makes a lot of sense but I was p***!
you're absolutely correct. There are VERY few places anymore in the world where there is still what's called "racial purity"...nor should there be, for health reasons. The old french and british royalty almost destroyed their own houses by inbreeding, before they realized the health affects it had on the children, and future Kings/Queens.... I read a story once, and dont know how true to fact it is, that the original "Dracula", was actually a real person. Count Dracula (meaning Son of Drac) from the Transylvania area. Back when it used to be called that, I'm not sure what it's called now. He was the inbred son of the King at the time, and he had a major blood disorder, where his own blood did not produce enough of an enzyme necessary for health, and he was dying. They found out somehow that drinking other peoples blood would alleviate the symptoms, and he became an unholy terror in the country, killing people just to kill them. He was obviously mentally unstable as well, but his horrible actions got so bad that even his own family disowned him. I also agree that some outside lines should be brought in to the purebred dog family, for stability and health reasons. Labs to Newfs is not a bad idea, since the Lab was originally created by mixing newfs to another, smaller water dog.....
6. WOO HOO!!!!
7. GOOD JOB BELLA AND CRESTED!!! BOB!!! THAT'S **TOPS!!!!
8. not I. Sorry...
9. I went there and found a dog beach in Evanston, just north of Chicago, but you have to have an Evanston dog license and buy a yearly pass to get in....that is a very ritzy, wealthy community...Apparently they want to keep us other "lowlifes" off their beaches....      They apparently allow dogs on Montrose Beach in Chicago, but theres a bunch of petitions being circulated to shut that down. Thats' too bad....
10. it's the Pavlov's Dogs syndrome...she has somehow learned that if yo see her tear you feel sorry for her....
11.    I know you dont HAVE to bo old, you're not obviously.... I meant when I get to that point when I can no longer handle large, outlandish stubborn hunting dogs (who would squish poor Montie if he were here) then I'll get a quiet small papillon...he IS beautiful, and that was an excellent shot. :D
12. I found one that says it will do long and short hair - they are affiliated with Petsmart. http://www.petsmart.com/global/product_detail.jsp?ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=2534374302023689&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302026118&PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524441774902&bmUID=1082230819411 kinda long URL I know, but it takes you right to the link. :D
13. WE'RE BBBAAACCCKKK!!!!!    well, that was interesting....it was nice to see the people I adopted her from, and the other foxhounds again. I took Freebee too....she got along really well, with most of the other dogs, which kinda surpised me.... Laurel was very happy to see everybody, wagging that whiplash tail at warp speed...until the guy from the kennel club came out. Freebee disliked him instantly, and went on checkpoint. Laurel became less happy, and while still wagging, it was more hesitant and leery...until he walked up to me.....Freebee growled, Laurel bayed, and once she started, all of the other foxhounds HAD to join in! It became a complete bayfest!! Now I'm sure there was nothing really wrong with this guy, when all the clamour died down we did talk...and I'm certain both dogs sensed I went IN with an attitude, and that's what set them off. I went in sparring for a fight, and both he and the dogs knew it....    anyway...he looked over Laurel, I showed him some of the things I have taught her, let her and Freebee and some select few other dogs run around and chase each other...Freebee eventually gave in and let him pet her, once I toned down a bit...He asked if she was always this ballistic, and I answered "only when I am...." and he laughed. I explained to him that I adopted Laurel housebroken, with basic obedience already trained, and gave all that credit to HELP. My issues with her were her fear, and my son, both of which she is getting over nicely. Other people had brought their adopted foxhounds too, and he interviewed all of them. At the end, he explained that someone had adopted a hound from another foxhound rescue society...promising that the dog was child friendly (and they are for the most part) but the family that adopted him had toddlers. And most people here know that big dogs and toddlers are a bad combo, if you're not watching them all the time. This dog knocked the little girl over, and she broke her arm...it was an accident, he didnt bite her or anything, just basically bowled her over running to the door. Parents were NOT in the room at the time. That set off a heated discussion about the type of people who get dogs, and why. It was like being here in the chat room. All in all, it ended up well. The hunt club agreed to continue to let the dogs be adopted to the rescue socieities, but they are now taking a hand in checking up on the adopters as well...he was in agreement that these dogs do not belong in households with toddlers unless under constant supervision, because they move like ligthning once they get started, and their tail alone could hurt a small child. I showed him the bruises on my leg from her tail, a lot of other owners have them as well. Now for the bad news.....the batteries died on my web cam after about 4 pictures....I got new battereis on the way home, but it's not looking good. They didnt come out well at all. I am going to try to enhance them and post them, but it's not looking good so far....
14. AND the hunt club...who I have taken on in a previous post....they dont think dogs like Laurel should be adopted out...(I think they're being sued, no confirmation). Tomorrow I take her to meet her ex-owners, who I dont have a lot of respect for, since if the rescue teams dont take them, they put them to sleep as soon as their usefulness to the hunt is done... She is a happy, healthy, adjusted home dog now...not all issues are handled, but most are within my control. and I WILL give them all the hell I can muster, and THAT'S A LOT!! AND the Rescue SocietY is behind me...when I got the email, from the hunt club, my email response was "WANNA FIGHT???" They WILL learn to NOT TAKE ME ON!!!! :evilbat: :evilbat: :evilbat: :evilbat: :evilbat:
15. HE'S SOOO CUTE!! I WANT A PAPILLON!! of course, my hunting dogs would run roughshod over the poor thing... Maybe when I'm old and feeble...oh, I'm feeble now, so maye when I'm just OLD...
16. ephedrine....Ephedra is the "common" name...it's basically a form of "speed"..it increases your heart rate, narrows your blood vessels... makes you hyper, basically. It can help you lose weight, because it increases your metabolism, but it also affects you heart and thyroid. Ifyour heart is borderline, or if you're taking drugs for other illnesses, it can kill you. It can cause your heart/thyroid to go into overdrive..basically a speed kill...you used to see it a lot in the 70's in the form of "Vivarin" - meant to keep you awake long past the time you should have been asleep. College students used it alot to cram for finals....the newer versions are stronger, and more deadly to a bad heart or thyroid...It's been banned here because it showed up in a bunch of diet drugs, with nasty consequenses...
17.
I SAW THAT ONE!!!! IT WAS AWFUL!!!!!!! I'm actually watching the one right now where the 2 ladies had a dog that had pups and they threw all 13 of them in the garbage. They said, "We couldn't take care of them so this is the best way. At least we didn't kill the mother like most people would have." Like what they did was ok.... It's amazing that people so STUPID can survive in the world!
I WANTED TO THROTTLE THOSE PEOPLE WITH MY BARE HANDS!!!!! The only ones that survived were the ones the neighbors took in, and warmed... GGGRRRRRRRR......
18. they dont "cry" like we do...it's not an emotional thing. But their eyes do tear, to clear away debris and such....excessive tearing could be an allergy, or maybe something blew in his eye. Just wipeaway the "goobers" and keep an eyeon him...no pun intended. :D
19. I didnt know there was a dog beach in Chicago.... do you know where it is?
20. or are they maybe talking about supplements that contain Ephedra? Those have been banned here as well...some vitamin compounds (like weight watching vitamins) also contain Ephedra...
21. Hell, my doctor TELLS me to take vitamins.... WTF????
22. ebkelsey, I am now going to play "dirty pool", from experience. I dont know why you dont want to neuter your males, but aside fromt he already mentioned health benefits, think of it from this viewpoint.... If you had sexual urges, that you could not control because they are governed by instinct rather than then choice, and had NO OOUTLET for them.....what would you do? You;d become aggressive, you'd try to run off, you;d do WHATEVER YOU COULD to satisy that need. And it is a need, unlike people they dont "choose" to mate...nature chooses for them.
23. well, one of mine is not "rare", exactly, but not common. She's a Foxhound. the other one, at least in the US, is as common as toast. Labrador (although she's a mix)
24. i LOVE the snowdog...did you do that? very impressive! :D
25. personality first...color last..and there's a TON of important stuff in between. Mine are black, with a small touch of white on paws and chest, and "tri coloroed", which generally means Brown, tan and white (think of a beagle) but in reality she probably has 12 different colors in her....they all shade into each other.
