VERY NICE, and I'm VERY JEALOUS.... I have NO artistic talent..want to draw a picture of mine?

you'd be amazed how many dont...poor Felix, I'm glad just his hair was affected. Did you get his tail checked out, make sure its not crushed or injured or anything? I once saw someone plow headlong into a Golden Retriever - not exactly a small dog you cant see, and kept right on going. I ended up picking him up and taking him to the closest vet, which was only about 1/2 mile away. They contacted his owners, but he had broken ribs and a broken leg. Even in so much pain, he never snapped at me or even raised a lip....Gentle soul. I did turn the idiot driver in, cuz I got her plate number, but never found out if anything happened about it.... People are just stupid sometimes....

just go to Wizard of Claws.com...a classic puppy mill, cruelty at its greediest....

I have no-pull harnesses for both my dog, using a similar concept. the strapping goes across the chest and behind the legs...however, mine also attach to the collar, so they can twist or pull out of them. From what I can see, I dont understand how the harness "moves" to allow for different movements, but I guess I'd have to see one to figure it out.
:o I really didn't know that you could buy fake balls. How does that help?
LOL - they dont help at all...but some people seem to think the dog "misses" them, or they want other people to think they're whole, who knows? Neutering is the best solution, for a number of reasons. It will cut down on the dog wanting to "roam", looking for a mate. It will drastically cut down on the possibility of testicular cancer...his temperament will improve, he will be less dominant, and easier to train. The sooner the better, before they have already developed the above problems.

I aM SO SORRY...my heart goes out to you, but it's time to let her go... I have let many go, in my time...when the time comes, when they can no longer live a good life...it's time to let them go... I feel for you.....

THANK YOU ALL!! They cant take her from me, I already acsertaind that..they CAN prevent people from adopting dogs like Laurel, dogs with "issues"..AND I AM GOING TO FIGHT THAT....If I can prove I can help a dog like this, which I have already done..and give them a good and healthy home, then so can others. Maybe some extra checking into the home is necessary, but it can be done. I'VE DONE IT!! 8) take me on, Hunt Club...YOU WILL REGRET IT.... :evilbat: :evilbat:

before reading the "small print", I cried, worried, and thought about where I could hide her... now I know I dont have to....but I dont like thei policy....and WILL fight it...
-
thank you Anoir I panicked...after looking into it, they cant take her back... she is mine.....but they CAN stop adoptions like Laurels, where the dog is not really "houseworthy"...but people like me, knowing, and willing, to work with their issues, should be able to adopt them... that's the issue I intend to fight....and fight I WILL...she is a good dog, and deserves what I can give her...

The hunt club that gave Laurel up to the Rescue Society are saying "Sheshould not have been adopted, she should have been put down. She is too fearful for home life, she was Omega..." and they want to have her taken away...the RS is trying to get affadavits "basicallymy take" on owning her...They want to stop giving, in their opinion, "non-houseworthy dogs" to the Shelter... Please help me!!! Allow me to use your input on how I have raised, treated, and trained Laurel....some others on her position turned out bad (because the owners did not know what to do) in their homes. They were returned to the rescue, and I suspect some of them are trying to sue. I dont know that for a fact, but its the only thing I can think of that would make them even care.... I sent this email to them....please leave it here for futire reference, if I need it. Thanks!! I am SOOO pleased!! and laugh at me all you want....but she is sleeping on the couch!! sounds like a problem, but in the past, she would only sleep under the desk when I am here, or in my room when I am not. She is "branching out" - she sleeps on the couch with Freebee (do I spoil them, YES...lol) when I am here, rather than being afraid and having to be under my feet all the time...she seems more comfortable, happier, and less afraid. We went for a nice long walk, all three us of, and she kept up with tail held high!!! I dont think I have ever seen her with her tail high since I got her...it was always tucked between her legs, or wagging madly at half mast when I got home and she was happy to see me.... she is coming along nicely. She is more like a household dog now than the scared, unassuming (NOT unassuming anymore!!! She wants HER way now...lol) pupster she was when I got her!!! Now I have to break her of some bad habits (gently) and start serious obedience training...but it will be easier now that she's not afraid... You would be amazed to see her. She's a different dog entirely. She barks/bays to warn me when she hears strange sounds, she stands up to Freebee's bull...(that takes some doing), even stood her off when Free tried to steal one of her bones. All in all I feel she is coming along well....she seems like a happy pup now, not always cringing and afraid...standing up for her own...I'll let you know how her training goes. I think it will go fast, now that the fear is out of the way. She already walks nicely on a lead. I have to get her recall and "COME!!" trained, but I dont think that will take too long!! (I wanted her to go out, she didnt come off the couch when called...she really is comfy on the couch, so we had a slight disagreement there...but she's learning) Am I spoiling her? probably...I think she deserves it...and I can train it out if it gets too far... she is so loving, and so sweet and gentle...wants nothing more than to put her head in my lap and sigh...(I'm sure that's all for affect, she's much smarter than most people would give her credit for) and she makes me spoil her just by acting that way...yes, I'm a sucker...but a sucker who knows what's going on, at least.....hee hee!! Thanks SOOO much for rescuing her, and letting me take her to my home. She is a joy to own, even with all the past issues...If you guys are ever at Petco in Dundee, or Schaumburg, or Hoffman, let me know. I'll bring her to see you!!!

"not fixed" sends up warning flags....there could be a female in the area, in heat...or they could just be coming into their own out of puppyhood, and fighting for pack placement... is there a reason why he's not fixed? Most dogs have less aggression issues once "done"... If they are close to the same age, they could both now be fighting for pack placement...if there is a female in heat nearby, they will fight over that.... although neither of them is old enough to mate, the scent is enough to set them off...

We need more info sweetie.... changes in the households? Is Dozer fixed? Is Brownie fixed? What sexes are they? How old? Anything unusal happen between yesterday and today? On your post I cant tell you much, except that we need more info...

Many people ride in the backs of pickups, for work related things. It;s not acceptable, in my opinion, unless you're on a rural road with little other traffic, like getting to a field. On the Highway? Absolutley not!! The difference in your litle rural road (30 mph tops) and your highway (55 legal, most people do 70) is an accident waiting for a place to happen! It's illegal here to ride in the back of a pickup without seats, and seatbelts... :o :o

ALL OF THEM need to be neutered, and ONE OF YOU needs to be Alpha. You can stop the fighting with a strong Alpha presence, but it takes time and strict rules. It is true that it is often hard to raise littermates, for all the reasons mentioned, but it can be done. You have to use strict pack rules, and no slacking is allowed. This scenario is a pack setup, you need an Alpha with a strong personality to literally '"rule the roost"... -
ditto what everyone else said. especially the water. i took dresden to the beach two weeks ago for a couple days and she drank a TON of water :) one other comment, if he's never been to the beach before it might freak him out at first, dresden took several days to get used to it.....then the second time we went she had a ball, she was having so much fun in the water that a lady stopped and told me she had never seen a dog have so much fun jumping around in the ocean :)
thanks Marble...you summed it up better than I did. The amount of salt in the air will make both you and the dog thirstier than usual...salt tends to suck up whatever water you have available, even sweat....I dont remember ever actually sweating all the years my family spent in Florida over Christmas.... I would intriduce her to the ocean on the long lead, just to make sure the waves dont tire her out and she cant swim back....now, I have never actually spent time on the west coast beaches (saw them for the first time last year, too cold to play) but in Florida, there are these things called Man-O-Wars...they are a variant of the jellyfish, and nasty as hell. They sprinkle the beaches in Florida. I got stung by one, and was sick for three days. They look like small, bright blue balloons....and the tentacles are usually under the sand, lying in wait. If you see anything like that, keep yourself and your dog away!!!! :o have fun!! :D

a list of items to consider, depending on the heat.... a water bowl, and fresh water in a sealed bottle. As mentioned he should NOT drink salt water...the salt isnt good for him, and will only make him more thirsty, and then prone to throwing up. sunscreen if his nose is red or pink...if black, it's not usually an issue. use sunscreen for children, not adults. It is stronger, and less harmful if they lick it off. (You dont want anything with cocoa butter in it, that's tanning lotion, not sunscreen) if you have room, a cooler with ice in it. Dogs love to chew on ice, and its a great relief if its hot. You will enjoy it too!! A long lead, especially if other dogs or people are around, to introduce him since it's his first time. I wouldnt let him run loose at first... recall treats, especially if the waves are high. Introduce him to the ocean slowly at first, and judge how he handles the action of the waves. Some dogs are better swimmers than others. as mentioned, a damp towel, in conjunction with the ice, will help him alot if he overheats... have TONS OF FUN!!! :D :D :D

HAPPY GOTCHYA DAY. CODY AND NAOMI!!! Youve worked SOOO hard with him, I am glad to see it is working out, and I applaud you for taking him in....I know how hard it is to take in a "problem child".....in the long run, I think the extra work makes them better companions.... they appreciate it, somehow....

I replied to both..basically the same email. amended between Animal Planet and the department... I AM APPALLED!!! I have watched Animal Planet for years, but the last Miami Animal Cops put me off COMPLETELY!! You aired AC agents, saying things like "all Pit Bulls can lock their jaws" (THEY CAN NOT!!!) AND "All Pit Bulls will snap.." THEY WILL NOT!!). Do these so-called Animal Control Officers know ANYTHING AT ALL about the dogs they "supposedly" CONTROL???? Pit Bulls can not lock their jaws...it is a physical impossibility...maybe they are confusing the Pits with Alligators? and "all Pit Bulls will snap?" do you have any idea how people friendly a well bred, well raised Pit Bull is? This is the dog that would lead the thieves to the safe...and lick them the whole time... I am really upset at your portrayal of these dogs, who already have the WORST reputation possible, because of media hype. At least take the time to LEARN about the dog, before you let the ACO's spout off about them.... and I dont want them working in MY neighborhood, that's for sure... GRRRRRR....

you come to this forum with a name of "bitchslapper", and say HF has ISSUES??????? some people dont like bugs...deal with it. We have all tripped, accidently kicked, accidently smacked, opened doors and fallen over our dogs... are you somehow perfect? Maybe it;s just me, but I found that post insulting... HF, dont worry, Shit happens. Dogs deal with it. They will all forgive you, dont worry...

two questions - is he just vieing for your attention, or does he seem aggressive/afraid? if just attention, then he's jealous. Tell him no, put him through a small obedience trial (sit, stay, treat) and let your date treat him. If aggressive or afraid, be careful. They are better judges of character than we are. A friend brought a date over, and my malamute mix hated him instantly. Would not let him touch him, or come near him, or my friend, while the dog was in the room. Turned out he was a "beater"... she had him arrested after he smacked her for non-compliance. As far as the other dog, Goldens are generally laid back, and he may feel "cornered" by a dog with stronger personality traits. I would make a day of it, providing you feel safe with this guy, with both dogs on leashes, going for a walk and seeing you all getting along... best of luck!! :D
-
I have two now, if I could have more I would add a GSD (mix rescue) a Beagle (I have become very fond of hounds) and yes, a Pappilon... I am not a fan of small dogs, but for some reason Pappilons appeal to me, and being a big Snoopy fan, I have always liked Beagles...never had either, but I have had a Malamute mix, an Irish Wolfhound Mix, a Tibetan Mastiff, a Golden Retriever and a Golden Lab (Golden/Lab mix) if I could find another one like him (Alex) I'd take him in as well... I need a farm....I need a farm....I need a farm....

PLEASE stop what you're teaching your dog. Putting her nose in it and yelling wont train her, it will merely scare her. If you dont catch her in the act, then pick it up and take it outside, and place it where you want her to go. Let her sniff around it, and if she even pees near it then praise her hugely. She WILL get the idea, with a little patience.
-
Tell her Laurel's story. A field trialed Foxhound, purebred, 6 years old/ Her usefulness to the hunt is no more. If the Foxhound rescue society had not taken her, she would have been put down. That's their policy. I adopted her, she is quiet, gentle laid back (she started out really afraid, but I took her because she got along with Freebee...and she is 200% better now) but Gram could adopt one from a rescue society with no issues. People give them up, not always because they're bad, but because they are moving, develop allergies, having a baby, etc. good luck!! :D
-
I agree HF.....I have a QUIET command I use on my dogs, which, if it's no real threat, they will generally comply (after three attempts....lol) but if there really is something out there that bothers them, Freebee especially, she WONT shut up and will pace from my chair to the door, and whine. The whining is the dead giveaway. Then I will get up and check. She has saved me more than once from letting people in, or from getting my property vandalized....

oh HF!! I'm sorry, but I now have to clean up my monitor and keyboard.... I should KNOW better than to eat or drink here..
