1. Could be as simple as kennel cough....or....if it becomes more pronounced with activity....a collapsed trachea. I have come across a few shelter dogs with collapsed tracheas. They couldn't have a buckle collar on....only harnesses. No pressure on the throat. Just a few guesses...when you took her in, did you question your vet?
2. Komondor probably. Plural being Komondorok. Sheesh....I'm just a fountain of info! Here's a pic from yahoo pets...
3. Oh that's so wonderful! So......is Junior still the first pick?
4. It does seem like it takes forever, huh? Our home visit was supposed to be last Sunday. She had to reschedule to who knows when!! Congrats!! :D
5. Well, they love it! I got some organic yogurt....plain....at the store today. I just let them lick the spoon first. I didnt' want to waste it if they weren't going to touch it, ya know? Hunter can be funny with trying new things. He's like a kid. But they practically swallowed the spoon! So I just put a few spoonfulls on at first. I figure I should go slow....and not just glob a whole bunch on at once. They just loved it. So I'm thrilled! Glad they enjoyed it....
6. Nuts in large amounts. And probably depending on the size of your dog. I think the same can go for chocolate. A King size candy bar will make a Great Dane reeeeeeeaaaaaaaly sick.....but could be death to a Chi. But I have heard that Macadamia nuts are particularly bad. Again....there are soooo many things you hear! Are they all true? Thank goodness we have each other to bounce things off of! That way, we can dispell rumors and find the facts!!!
7. How long are you gone during the day? Could he be crated instead? It would probably be safer for him. Seeing as he figured out he can climb the gate, now what else can he figure out how to do? Knock speakers over...chew on wires...dig up carpet....scratch doors....potty in the house...and many more fun and new things for a puppy! It won't take him long before he learns a new 'trick' and gets self rewarded for it. He gets rewarded every day for climbing the gate. He gets freedom and new things to do! Probably a crate would be the best idea. And if you feel you are gone too long, is there a neighbor, friend, or relative that could come and let him out? Or could you or your husband come home from work and let him out? This is the HARDEST thing about a puppy and why my husband and I didn't go the puppy route....but the rescue route!! We knew we had no one to let the little guy out during the day. And we are gone too long for a 10 week old puppy!! Good luck with your little monkey dog!
8. The Newfie took this years Westminster.
9. I'm just fearful that we are next with our GSDs. So soon, they will have their CGC. Although I'm not sure that will do any good.....
10. You got it ESS. If they see something, NOTHING will stop them. They could care less about getting shocked. They just want whatever it is they see. And once they are out, they won't come back in for fear of another shock. You could always fence in a portion of your yard and not the whole acre. Or fence in a portion with regular fence and fence in the rest with the invisible. That way if you are not able to keep an eye on your dogs, they can be in the real fence.....and if you or your family is outside, then they can have the entire yard. I know quite a few people who do it this way. Again, type of fencing just depends on your dog's personality. Our fence is a four rail vinyl fence. It's a beautiful fence and the dogs cannot get through it....They are way too big to fit between the rails! But, could someone stick a hand through there? Sure....if they were stupid enough to! But, if they did....and heaven forbid they got scratched, they could sue us for that! Crazy, huh? That happened to some people we knew. He had 3 boxers and would give the neighborhood kids treats to feed them. He didn't want them feeding his dogs junk. Well, one of the kids got scratched by the dog pawing at him for another treat. The kids father raised hell and threatened leagal action.....and he could have won too....It's sad. Just like if someone broke into our house and got bit, they could come after us...... Well, enough of my ranting.....Don't mean to make this a book!!!
11. I'm not a huge fan of the invisible fences.....some dogs can get out of them very easily. And then, they won't come back in. Why would they want to get shocked twice? Also it keeps nothing out of your yard. That worries me. So other animals or people/kids can get in your yard and tease your dog. Even if they are tresspassing on your property and something happens.....it is still your fault. Make sure your dog has VERY little prey drive, and take a good look at your neighbors before you decide to purchase one of those types of fences.
12. Thanks guys.....I was almost 100% the answer was yes. And after posting.....I did some resarch and found out that it was!
13. Okay...I'm pretty sure I know the answer...but can a white GSD compete in obedience?
14. An angry woman.....or a really horny one.... :o
15.
it doesn't smell up your house
You sure? I thought it was a little odd smelling.....but I'm very sensitive. Also, I haven't made a batch in a loooooooooooong time. I think I will make some tonight to take to class!!!
16. This looks really nice..... But I have always wondered....what is "Mixed Tocopherols"? I see it in a lot of food and I'm not sure what it is or what it does. Thanks for the post, TDG! It's nice to have you on the 'lookout' for us!
17. I always wondered why they won't make the decision for you. Haven't you wondered? But maybe we already know why. Trust. They trust us totally with their lives. I sill miss my Scooter terribly. It will be three years this month (this weekend, actucally) that we lost her. She was 17. She was my angel. My everything. Does the pain go away? I guess we all know the answer to this one. Not completely. But it dulls.....as it is replaced with memories of wonderful times. Times spent lying together....telling secrets....crying on a furry shoulder....hugs in the middle of the night. And still, even now, there are times when I cry out loud. But it's okay.....we are humans with strong and powerful emotions. And we are also humans with so much love to give and to share. All of us who have lost a special companion feel your sorrow. Our hearts ache along wtih yours as we remember how we dealt with our angels who have left us. But our strength will reach out to you in your time of need.....just as yours will reach back to ours if we would need you.
18. Please correct me if I'm wrong..... But aren't Old English Sheepdogs born as bobtails?
19. B Bop.....I make those!!!!!!!!!!!!! Except, I use tiny muffin tins to pour my 'gunk' in. I really don't want to call it batter..... But you are right....my boys LOVE it. It's my obedience lure! Except, I WILL NOT put it in my mouth. I use cheese for that......
20.
I have only seen a few GSD's whos ears never stood up..
I am lucky enough to have one! :D My Hunter has a lazy ear. Just one. It's his personality!
21. :smilecolros: Wonderful.....just wonderful!!!
22. On a side note.... During the autopsy when he cracked the chest...... MAN....that was freaking COOL!!!!!!!!!!! Just had to get that in..... :D
23. Yes.... You tell the people if they don't stop harrassing you while you are outside minding your own business that you will press charges. :D Get off my property works well too. But seriously..... Or if one of them opens their mouths.....just turn and walk away. You could probably talk till you're blue in the face. Some people are just plain ignorant.
24. Yeah Boonie!!! Excellent news, DAL....so glad to hear everything is fine!!
25. Umbillical training is wonderful! Also, the dog forms a bond to you too. He will NEVER be out of your sight.....and you will never be out of his. It gets frustrating.....but keep up with it. When I visited my in-laws for 2 weeks they had a 4 month old sheltie that just pottied all over the house. Well, after one week I couldn't stand it anymore. So I did umbillical with him. For the second week, he was an angel. But guess what? The day we left, they didn't keep up with it.....so I bet you can figure out what happened? Yup.....a dog who is a few years old now and NOT potty trained!!!!
