1.
You know, if I had an open invitation to "come over and play" I'd be packing my bags!
They are precious, aren't they? Actually when my friend first told me he was looking into getting a puppy, I was told he was a little suspicious of how close I began to cling to him LMBO. I was always calling and asking if he had decided on a breed. Finally when he had, he called me. Woohoo! We have already begun to plan days for when I'm going to come over and help him train his little dumpling. :D Awww, you have no idea how excited I am! But I may want to know a few things and will be depending on everyone here to help us out. Raising this puppy is going to become a board thing. Now I can't even think without you guys, see what you did? ;) I have questions right now. The main one is...how old does the puppy have to be in order for him and Kyra to start playing together?
2. That makes five of us! K tears dolls to shreads without showing any sign of mercy. That heartless killer.
3. I am sad to hear this, you & your Apollo will be in my thoughts and prayers tonight. Hugs, eileen
4. A friend of mine has been itching for a dog for years and years. He got on a breeder's list a little while ago and finally he is going to get his puppy. Woohoo! He told me all about this and then asked me if I wanted to go pick a pup with him. Uh, duh, of course I do! No thought required. 8) Before hand, the breeder said that he had two picks. He was definitely going to get the first or the second pick he was told. These are the two he decided on: I found it particularly cool how Goldens can be such a range of colours. For instance these two pups look like two different shades of yellow..but are equally as cute. ;) Finally, a few days later after everything had been worked out, he was called about his pick. He had gotten his second choice. This is the pup he's getting soon: I am beside myself because he has asked me to help train the pup and said I was welcome over anytime to play with him. 5.
Hey, I'll drink to that! :drinka: Remember, beauty is in the eye of the beer holder! :drink1: :iloveyou:
ROTFLMBO!! This is too funny. LMBO at K as well. You guys are the funniest! :drinking:
6. Happy belated birthday, Jetta. Oh my! Twenty-one? What an age that was!! Have fun, girl. :bday:
7. I still will get on all fours and play with Kyra, pretending I'm one of the 'pack'. Is that odd?
8. The strangest place K ever slept was in our cat's bed. She's about twice the size of it, yet won't give up on such a comfy, cozy bed. She is a big girl but always seems to feel she is a tiny little thing. The goof. Kyra in our old cat's bed as a pup: Conked out in the family room: She's not alseep yet here, but she was within 5 minutes. 9. Yeah, I'm a pretty big weird-o too. I like to keep it on the down low though. 8) But yup, we both found out that we pretended to be animals when we were younger. Anyone else do so and wanna share some experiences?
10.
Lol Muttlady... yeah I think we already look crazy, its in my name for me! Hmm, maybe one of us should make another thread about this. Its kind of an interesting subject... kinda. Lol!
LOL! Great idea. I think you should have the honour of making a new thread because you're the one who first mentioned it. I'll be sure to reply to it asap though. Hurry up & get it up!!
11.
OMD! That really is weird. I wonder if anyone else here did that when they were little. Im definatley embarassed by some of the things I did then but I had fun doing it! One of my friends and I would would pretend we had mean owners and we were made to fight each other, I think we were tigers or something, lol. Gosh we were so strange! Once we had a "vets office" too... we would actually "operate" on the stuffed animals we had and then sew em up!
LMBO, that is too funny!! I actually used to act like other animals as well: lions, tigers, ...and bears? OH MY! But my favorite was a dog. Our "owners" would even feed us cheese and crackers and such. I can't believe we suckered our relatives into doing those crazy things. Poor them. I'm sure many other people did this too. When you're a big dog fan, it's usually for life. :D Hopefully some one else will speak up so we don't look crazy! ;)
12.
When I was little I pretended to be animals, mostly dogs, all the time  .
That's so crazy, I did too! My cousin and I used to even go as far as going under the table and beg for scraps..like a real dog. We would make one of our family members our owners and they would train us. I always think back to it and think of how foolish I must have looked. I'm glad some one else did it too!
13.
Sometimes they can have no symptoms but they will wake you up several times through the night, even if they don't have to pee. They just can't get comfy and can't sleep so they want you to entertain.
I have been really thinking about this and I truly hope that this is the case. In fact, humans get this all the time when they can't sit still and can't sleep. So why couldn't dogs? K's never done this before so it's definitely been a one-time thing (so far). I guess I will not know for sure until later tonight...and by that I mean 3 a.m...or should I say tomorrow? ;)
14. Hey Divine. I will definitely take a urine sample, thanks for the suggestion. You've been a great help. And I'll reply to you on the crate thread in just a sec. ;)
15. Hi Naomi. Thanks a bundle for all your help and positive thoughts. Kyra is heading to the vet's as soon as I can get her there. You know how concerned mom's can get. She's been acting so strange lately and it truly breaks my heart. I'm dying to know what's up. :-? I hope some one with similiar experiences pipes up and offers some suggestions/help. Thanks again for being there for us, DAL. :D
16.
Older dogs may become aggressive for several reasons. Aggression may be the result of a medical problem such as one causing pain (arthritis or dental disease), vision or hearing loss, which results in the dog being easily startled, lack of mobility so the dog can not remove himself from the irritating stimulus, or diseases having direct effects on the nervous system, such as cognitive dysfunction.
Now that you mention it, I think Kyra may be having vision loss. When we were on walks in the past, she would never bark at a dog and would see them when she was a mile away. Now they are a few feet away from us when she notices and usually she starts to growl and bark. She also growls at people who are jogging. I'm guessing she doesn't know how to rate the situation because she can't see it all that well. Is there some thing a vet could do about this? Obviously we are going for a trip to the vet ASAP.
Treating medical conditions which contribute to the aggression is paramount. Watch the dog for signs of stress (increased panting), and remove the dog from the stressful situation which could cause aggression.
Kyra has had some increased panting but it is when she is just with me. She is never in a "stressful situation". Hmm, this is all so confusing. Thanks for all your help, though, Guest. ;)
17. Hello. Last night, Kyra was acting very strange again. Around 2 o'clock in the morning she began to whine and cry in her crate. I went to let her out, waited as she did her business, and then put her back in her crate. Between 3-4 this happened another two times. But I realized the second time that she was just doing it for attention. I put her back in her crate and went back to bed. She cried and yelped into about 5:30 a.m. It was awful. I felt so bad. :( But Kevin kept saying that, "if I kept letting her out it would encourage her to keep whining". Is this true? I don't know how to deal with this. Is it seperation anxiety or...? I'm clueless. A little help, please? A confused and deprived, eileen
18.
What kind of meds is Kyra on?
Right now, K is only on "Rimadyl". She is having 100 MG Tablets and she has 1 and 1/2 a day. I just read this one the little booklet that came on the bottle. I must have seen it before and forgot because I read this over when I first got it. It says: Post-Approval Experience: Although all adverse reactions are not reported, the following adverse reactions are based on voluntary post-approval adverse drug experience reporting. Behavioral: Sedation, lethargy, HYPERACTIVITY, restlessness, AGGRESSIVENESS. (I have put the problems we have been having in caps lock.) Thanks for all your help and I hoped this answered your question.
19. I'm sorry I didn't see this earlier. What a loving, caring tribute to your dog. I think that this was lovely and it actually made me kind of teary because it's obvious how much you adore Banzai. Happy 10th birthday to your big guy!! :bday:
20. Lately, Kyra has been acting extremely odd towards me and my fianc
21. As a young puppy, Kyra wasn't all that bad! I had a previously horrible experience with puppy teething with Max, my old Chesapeake Bay Retriever. That dog would have chewed me out of house and home if I hadn't used the spray. :o I think Kyra chewed my favorite slippers, her bed, our cat's bed, and Kevin's most expensive pair of shoes. Kevin was pretty pissed. :-? Max chewed anything he laid his eyes on. Table and chair legs, phones, the TV stand, tried to chew paint cans but we took them away, a fancy dress of mine (he got mud all over it first though) and he got hold of my portfolio and tore it to pieces. :( He was a very naughty puppy! Odd thing is, we have no idea how he got that stuff. We were home most of the time. The few times we weren't, he was babygated in a certain area and would just DESTROY it. He was a titan.
22. Weird words? Hmmm. K is just an odd ball herself so this shouldn't be too hard. No matter what I say, I get an odd response from her. There is "na-na" which is "go to sleep". She picked up on this one when Kevin and I were babysitting a two-year old. The little darling called bedtime "na-na" so that is what we would always say. Now K can't seem to forget the darn word. "Geeeeee-yat" ("Get" with some sort of accent *shrugs*) means "off" or "out" to Kyra. It is usually when she is on Kevin's side of the bed and he wants her off, that's what he says to her and now it's stuck in her head. LOL When I go "baby, baby, babyyy" in a baby voice K knows that means that we're going for a walk. :D There are also sounds K responds to. If I pick my keys up off the table and they jingle, K is instantly at my side. She thinks it means a car ride and she's usually rarin' to go. When the alarm goes off to announce some one has entered the house, K runs to the door to greet who ever it is. We've actually had a few cases where she gets hit in the head with the door because she's there so darn fast. I don't know what K thinks my cell phone ringing is but she ALWAYS responds to it. She comes waltzing into the room I'm in and plops herself down, looking at me talking. She then begans to wag her tail and look adorable. Maybe she knows she won't get much attention then and is trying to distract me?? Little genius. :o
23. This board has been way too hostile lately. I say that we all let loose and have some fun. Woohoo! :D We need to get some laughing happening around here, so I say that everyone posts the funniest thing their pooch(es) ever did. While you're at it, share their most embarassing moment (which in return probably embarassed you too). Enjoy. :drinking:
24. This movie was such a hoot! I liked it a lot. Kevin enjoyed it too, and said he found it pretty funny how the terrier's owner some how knew so many men. I wonder how. LOL I have always wondered if it was accurate. Obviously it is made more comedic for the audience's enjoyment..I'm just wondering if its far-fetched at all. Any show people wanna chip in?
25. I don't know how any of you guys can stand people asking you if you "fight your dogs". It drives me mad when people ask me this about K. It happens very rarely, but when they do I basically take a spaz on them. I mean, it's awful that all they see pit bulls and big black dogs is as fighting machines. Sure, K fights me all the time...with lick-attack. She's like a Pokemon.
