Hey Izzy, are ya sure you don't need another dog? That puppy is the sweetest thing ever and she/he matches his/her possible new owner. That would be you izzy. You are definitely an angel in disguise. It's amazing how much you do for these strays! Kudos to you!
you are right. I apologize ML....it's usually Divine that sends me off into "deep contemplation...."
LOL, That's quite alright. No harm done. I'm actually quite glad that my simple post allowed some one to get a greater meaning out of it. Thank you for making this post twice as interesting. Hee, hee!
still a good question. are they nice because they have dogs, or do they have dogs because they're nice?
Well, this question really has me thinking and to be truthful, I have been thinking about this question since I read it. LOL I was thinking that this all depends. In some cases, I'm sure people have dogs because they're nice. For example, only a sweet person would want to devote part of their life to a critter with 4 legs, often smelly fur, and a tail that could knock over an ox. LOL The person would have to be geniunely patient and kind-hearted. Then again, I'm sure in a case where a person is given a dog or some one else in the family wants one, dogs can also make he/she a nicer human being. How could they not? All of that undying love and constant forgiveness has to rub on us a little. It seems that both sides are very possible.

LMBO! Awww, hot pink suites Jack. ROTFL  Kyra is often a bad little doggy, but I rarely catch it on camera. I'm teaching K not to beg, so I suppose this picture is of K being "naughty" ;): And the itty bitty kitty is Elmo, her partner in crime.

With K, people say stuff that makes me really upset and I never know what to respond. Often because K is a "big, black dog" she is really discriminated against and many of the other owners will walk away from us. I remember just a few days ago a woman was walking her shih tzu and they saw me and K. The woman started talking to her DOG and calling K a "big meany who's gonna hurt you if we go near him". Argh. Kyra is a GIRL! But people always ask if "he" is a fighting dog or if he has had puppies with another dog (if not, does he want to?) because "he" is kind of cute. When mistaking K with breeds, I have been asked if she was a black shepherd many times.
personally? I think we've been HAD...
I agree, courtnek. If this person wanted to seek help from this post they would have been checking back in and posting answers to our questions. Instead, this person is no where to be seen. Hmmm.

Okay, I've met a few jerk dog owners but there were not even close to as many sweethearts. Usually we are all so nice and loving and pretty much kindred spirits. I just love the dog world and being part of it!!! This is because today K and I made two new friends. A lady named Diane and her golden retriever mix Argon. It was so fun to just hang out with them and "talk" (K sniffed, I yapped). Then literally 5 minutes later the sweet lady was giving me her number and saying we should arrange a playdate for K and Argon. :D Only in the dog world would you find such a nice person! I think it must be some thing in our genes that makes us love dogs and be angels in disguise.. Hee, hee!
I'm pretty sure Riley is purebred  It was Lucky she was talking about when she said half border collie
Well, isn't my face red. Sorry, right now I feel like a prize idiot for not noticing that. Oospsy. I still wanna see some pics of Riley though!!
-
LOL, Very nice. Thanks for telling me, I was super lost! Riley must be one of the sweetest things I have ever seen. Are you sure he's partial BC and not purebred? He looks 100% BC in that pic to me. But I guess I don't know much. Would you mind sharing a few more pictures of your cutie?

Okay. No body hurt me, but they are actually really cute. Maybe its because I'm a sucker for merles. :D But its really sad that there is yet another designer breed out..probably being sold for a ridiculous amount. :(

Rescue was the best thing that ever happened to me because it introduced me to my baby girl, Kyra. I was interested in getting a dog and I thought a mutt would be perfect. I was orginally looking at getting a husky/samoyed mix (Imagine the hair on that one!) but when I got to the rescue they had all been adopted. The owner kept asking me if I would see the "lab mixes" and finally I just said "yes" because I loooove puppies - as you all probably know my this point in our relationships. When I went over, there were only 3 puppies left in this litter. The woman began to thrust the oldest female of the bunch at me named Sasha. I didn't take to her and I didn't like her brother Stu much either. I was about to leave when some one little and adorable started to bark like a fool. It was the cutest little puppy bark. He he! So I turned around and this is what I show (it wasn't a dog, it was an otter! :o...just joking): K on her first day home. K all grown-up on "her" chair. LOL K and her best bud, Elmo (also an adoptee)! LOL, You have good will power. I would have already been out the door and getting that puppy. Gosh, that puppy is sooo cute!

I was just thinking and me and Kevin call Kyra a lot of other animal names. LOL I call her "piggly wiggly" or "pig" and Kevin calls her a hog and a bear. I was wondering if anyone else out there calls their dog a name of another animal. Hopefully we're not the only weirdos. Mind you, K also has nicknames that involve fruits, vegetables, and desserts. Yesterday Kevin called K a "dumpling" and we both erupted into giggles.

This is awful. I looked at some of the pictures and I think those images are going to stay with me for quite a while. Horrible.

Things have been good, real good. We now have 4 clients that we will have from now until the New Year. Their owners are basically people who work really long shifts and need their dogs to be with a companion during that time. I was planning on quitting the job I had as a librarian as soon as I got 5 clients..but I decided 4 was enough. I gave in my 2 weeks notice last Monday, so by next Monday I will be free to spend the rest of my days with doggies. :D Since today is a fairly tame day for dog owners, most don't work on Sundays, I haven't got much to do. :( I only have one client here and this may be the only time I have her. She is a dachshund (I seem to be getting a lot of those). She is just a doll and I was contemplating adopting her. She is some one else's..yeah..but they don't hafta know. He he! ;) I have some photos of some of the regulars that will be staying with me if anyone's interested.

Kyra sleeps on the bed with me and Kevin, even though it is usually a very tight squeeze. Actually, I find if Kyra isn't at my feet, I have trouble sleeping. I guess I'm just weird..

Hi again. Thanks for responding. I have a few questions about corgis, if you don't mind. Are they couch potato kind of dogs? Are they very friendly? How are they to train - easy? TIA. :fadein:

Naomi, you poor woman. Seems like Cody and Zoey had other plans for that than you did. :-? I'm sorry you have had to go through so much, and now this on top of it all. But don't stress too much...it's not worth it. :D

Hey aussiemama. I'm a "wannabe aussie owner". I think your 3 are simply gorgeous! Fabulous pix and please, jump right in a chat up a storm. Welcome to Dogo! :D

Thanks for all your help, DAL. I appreciate you directing me towards the Flat-coated Retriever among us. *lol* Also a big "hello" to JackieMaya. It's odd that you had those two breeds in mind and then wound up with different ones. What I think is a crazy coincidence is that my sister (who owns a Flattie) wanted to own a Golden Retriever and a Flattie. But instead, she owns an Airedale Terrier and a Flattie. I guess you both found a better dog than the one you missed out on. :) Your two are beautiful! Hey there, Nea! It's been quite the long-awaited arrival for you to find this thread. *lol* Probably should have just private messaged ya. Sorry. I don't own a Flattie but my sister does. I have pix, and I'm not afraid to use em! ;)
-
Cassie: Hi..sounds to me like you own quite the crew of critters! I love newfies, I think they have the cutest faces. Do you have any pix of yours? JackieMaya: Good to met you and your dogs! They are both lovely. I'd have to say that Maya looks like a purebred Golden though. Maybe it's just that picture. Do you have anymore so I can compare? *lol* They both are very cute. :D

A little Doggie Rant (no offense to small dog owners)
Mutt_Lady replied to Sharpeigirl's topic in Everything about dogs
Maybe I'm just grouchy because I live near several toy breeds who's owners think it acceptable to put them out early in the morning and let bark for an hour straight.
You have every right to be grouchy, in my opinion. It sounds to me like your neighbours aren't really too concerned about anyone else around there getting any sleep. Selfish butt holes. That's exactly like the Scottish terrier that lives behind us. What a pain in the butt! The little yappy thing is put outside at 6 a.m. and is left there to bark until about 8. Of course, if I let K out, she goes to snoop and take a look and then the dog starts barking at HER..which causes her to bark. It's like a neverending circle of barking. :x I just wish they would put the dog out to pee or whatever, then let him/her back in minutes later..not hours. It's really annoying in the morning to wake up to that "Rrrrrruff"! -
Hi Tanya: Thanks for clarifying the colours of your pembrokes. I was really at a loss and thought pembrokes were only one single colour. Oosps. Oh and don't think you got off THAT easily! ;) I still have plenty more to ask you about. But right now, would ya mind if I just got to know all your pembrokes? I'm curious as to what you do with them - are they just pets or do you show and trial them? Do you have a link of colours Pembrokes come in? Approximately how old are yours? Thanks in advice. (TIA) :D

Wheeew. Yes, yes, yes! It's odd because the second I read this topic I was watching K go upstairs to visit Kevin and she tooted on her way up. Actually, it was more of a hiss. Her loud ones are easily not as bad as her silenters. You guys are right..they are silent, but deadly! I have felt faint at a few of them. ;) She has so really bad ones..but more often than not, it is just Kevin blaming it on her.

A little Doggie Rant (no offense to small dog owners)
Mutt_Lady replied to Sharpeigirl's topic in Everything about dogs
I don't have anything against little dogs either, only there owners who are complete idiots. I've told this story so many times that I can't remember if I told it here so if I did, my apologies! Anyway I was out walking K a little while back and we decided to stop and gab with a woman and her shih tzu. The dog and K were getting along okay so me and the owner chatted. She was so sweet..at first. Then the little brat bite K on the "cheek". K moved back a little, looking unsure. I saw the whole thing and told the lady that her dog had just BIT K! Lady told me "no you're wrong, she's never even nipped anyone I think your dog bit mine". Uhh..okay. She was senile or some thing. Then I think she went on to spread rumors around the dog neighbourhood that K was a biter. K would NEVER bite anyone! ARGH. -
Happy Birthday Zebra!!! And Starfox, I sing too! Shhh! Its our secret! ;)
