Hazel...don't do this in other posts because (not mentioning any names)..people are gonna tell you to mind your own business and not read the posts...and THEN bring up the mistakes from your past just because you tried to tell everyone to shut up and stop fighting so much..just to make themselves look saintly... However..I congratulate you on being d*** smart about this because I agree... :) too much whinniness and complainy ranting..and not enough helpfullness and understanding..that's what I see...
Grow up child. Go away, your momma's calling you. Hazel- I try to educate everyone I come across about pit bulls and their ownership. I try to to dispell any untruths I come across. I try to talk people OUT of owning the breed unless they can be responsible 24/7. I don't deal DIRECTLY with BSL since it is not in my state but I do as much as I can to fight it in other states. Whether it be phone calls, faxes, letters, emails to mayors, city council people, newpaper editors, what ever & who ever needs to hear the TRUTH about the breed. I show my dogs as GOOD representives of the breed to who ever I can, neighbors, co-workers, friends. Beleive me, there are ALOT of people fighting the good fight, sometimes they suceed, sometimes they don't but it's not from lack of trying. Debby

Very good posts Passing through & PL!! And this part is soooo true! It is exactly how I see her.
It's like trying to discuss something calmly with a rabid racist.
Debby -
That's soo sad. On another board I visit a friend's horse got loose & she was trying to round her horse up off the highway, she had JUST caught him & settled him down when a trucker roared by them & blew his air horn at them. Scared the poor horse to death and he ended up falling on the pavement. He was scared & scraped up but not hurt TOO badly. People are so stupid. I moo at cows too but I'm ususall in the car when I do it & they don't seem to mind. They just look at me like "dumba$$" Debby

I doubt any of us have anything to be ashamed about. I certainly don't. You got a problem with it? Stop reading the thread if it bothers you, TRUE pit bull owners & lovers (unlike people who take their pit bulls to dog parks and then want to argue the point with experienced owners) will defend the breed to the end. Debby -
Poor baby, thanks for taking him in. I HATE people sometimes, well, MOST times. Debby
I can't believe you people are still arguing..don't you have anything better to do after 29 pages of crap? You're like ranting grandmothers sitting around during tea time with nothing better to do... :agrue: Obviously you all hate and disagree with each other..so what's the point of trying to convince each other of your beliefs/comments/rationale/whatever?!!!! MAKE IT STOP MAKE IT STOP!!!!!!!!!!!! :x
If it bothers you so much why did you just add to it? It was 1/2 way down the page until YOU brought it back up. Debby -
Who here would think it was just dandy if a dog moved in next door who was capable of and wanted to kill your dogs?
Wouldn't bother me as long as they are as responsible with their dogs as I am with mine. My neighbors all know I have pit bulls, never a complaint from any of them! In fact, they ALL tell my how pretty & friendly my dogs are. There are several houses on my block with pit bulls in the yards, I've YET to see ANY of them running the streets or heard any complaints about them. I HAVE seen Chi's, Rat Terriers, Min pins, Huskies, you name it roaming the streets unleashed. Never a pit bull though. There's even a large long haired dog (NOT a pit bull but I don't know what it is) that has a nasty habit of jumping OVER my neighbor's fence to attack HIS bird dog. Debby

182 POUNDS!!! :o Sounds like a hariy horse to me!! I don't think there are any "bad breeds", just bad dogs in those breeds. I've met several Rotties & found them all to be sweethearts. I have seen a few that would just as soon take your head off as breath but you can find that in ANY breed. Debby
Well, I don't know whether I am the epitome of irresponsibility here. Let's find out. Everybody here who has a dog whom you purchased (other than from a rescue or a shelter), tell us exactly what the breeder did to warrant your giving them money and encouraging further breeding
Let's see, every pit bull I have ever owned with the exception of Justice came from my dad's dogs. He was an APBT lover ( and owner) almost all of his life, all that I was around for any way & years before as well. He would occasionaly breed his dogs, maybe a litter every 4 or so years, IF he wanted a new dog. Justice was purchased, however the person I bought her from is NOT a breeder. He weight pulls with his dogs, all the dogs he pulls with have been health tested or come from health tested stock so as to NOT destroy his dogs joints, have them have a heart attack at a pull, what have you. He bred ONE litter of puppies for himself. My nephew was a freind of his, saw Justice & knew I would fall for her. He talked his friend into selling her to me ( he was going to keep her as he did 4 of the 6 puppies in the litter). I also have a health guarantee on her, in writing. Oh and my dad passed away 12 years ago at the age of 70. I don't & never have spoken for him, any questions you may have about his breeding practices I have to say, sorry you missed your chance. You should be ashamed of yourself for questioning Newfie about her mom's breeding practices. YOUR parents allowed a 14 year old to breed a litter of puppies! What does that say about THEM????
I just require some title (on either end) for other people not to be per se considered irresponsible
Not many of us here are concerned with what YOU consider responsible.
Next, is there anybody here who has owned dogs for any length of time who has NEVER had a loose dog, even for a few seconds?
Of the 4 APBT that I have personally owned (not including dogs I grew up with) only Munkee has ever gotten loose. When he was young he liked to squeeze through the fence. I was always aware immedialty that he was out & would round him up. I fixed the fence & scolded him ( he HATES to make me upset) and he wouldn't tryi it again for a while. He got out maybe 3 times total and hasn't been out of his fence in about 4 years. Plus I moved to a different home & he cannot get out of my fence now. Justice has NEVER tried to get out of her fence. Even when my neighbors Chow mix was climbing the fence she never made a move to try it. Ruby & I lived in apartments, when I visited my parent's house she had a yard to play in but other than that she was on leash when outside, at all times, unless I had a fenced in section which at times I did, depending on where I lived. Booger lived in a condo with me that had a small enclosed yard, he never got out, he also lived in a house with me with a fenced in yard & he never got out of that either. When I open the front door to leave my house my dogs are either put in a sit-stay or they are in their bedrooms. There are MANY MANY loose dogs on my street and funny thing , not a ONE is a pit bull, makes you wonder who the responsible owners in my neighborhood really are
My third dog (as you obviously know, since you seem to keep rather creepily close tabs on everything I have ever written) came from a responsible breeder who has been in my breed (and, no, I won't tell you what breed it is, since...um, you are a bit too interested in me, what with saving posts of mine from YEARS ago and stuff) for years, and has had many outstanding dogs, both in conformation and performance.
Pot calling the kettle black there, ey?
your old pal, pitbullEmily
Emily!! Glad to see you!.
Kids get hurt on slides, with or without dogs. GET OVER IT!!
My brother fell off a slide YEARS ago & busted his head wide open, not a dog in sight. OH, one more thing, for a while Animal Planet was airing a commercial showing an agility trial, this lady was running beside her dog when all of a sudden she falls tumbling down the course while her dog continues on his way. Was that you?? Just curious. Debby -
Mine don't sing but Munkee dances, Justice smiles & gets the wiggles. Ollie talks. Everyday I ask her how her day went & if the other dogs were nice to her & she tells me all about it! She wowoo's, growls, grumbles & sometimes it sounds like she is actually saying words. Debby
Thanks for your reply as well. My female dog was fixed but she has gotten pregnant before AFTER we got her fixed...why I am not sure. But we did take her to the vet to get her fixed.
Then your vet took your money! There is NO way a spayed dog will get pregnant. I'd check into this if I were you and find out why your vet charged you to spay a dog that he didn't perform the surgery on! Good luck! Debby
-
wellllllll, if you let 2 unaltered dogs interact together, chances are she's pregnant. Why aren't they altered? Debby
